The only thing I would like to know is if anyone would have taken him with half his salary retained. Everything I heard was that Botterill was unwilling to do it. Not that it really matters either way.

Yeah, if he connects on that lateral, Knox might have a touchdown there. In theory, it's stupid play, but some plays are so crazy, they just might work. This wasn't one of them.

Not sure but I think waiving him is the better option for a trade. If he passes through waivers, which he will, then the Sabres trade him he can be placed on that teams AHL team and then brought up. If some team claims him off waivers he has to stay on the NHL roster and they would then have to waive another roster player. Not sure if that’s 100% accurate but something like that

He is brought up from the NHL club by the team that trades for him.
He is then claimed by another team on re-entry waivers.

I assume that salary hold just transfers to the other team?

Re-entry waivers went away in the last CBA.
