They were more aggressive 2 years ago. They also had the best defensive years out of Enstrom, Byfuglien, and Trouba. Now they have none of those 3 at all, let alone in career years defensively.
- Rexypoo

They were away more aggressive two years ago. That's a huge part of any problem we might have. Need to get that "there's no tomorrow" attitude back.

If so=playoffs!

Probably good for Boudreau to be out of work.....I have always feared that coaching was going to cause his head to explode.

Tonight's game against the Sharks was a perfect example of how truly badly we miss big Buff.

1) There is no way that Kane gets away with all those hits against Pionk with Buff on the ice. There would 100% for sure be a big price to pay. Same with the hit on Ehlers.

2) Buff did a great job of clearing guys away from the net in a scramble. Sharks got two goals that way.

3) Buffs shot from the blue line on all those PP's vs Pionk.

There's much more. Really miss you Buff !

Don't really understand the booing of Kane, especially when we won the trade. We now only have Roslovic left from that one by the way.

Jets really showed how much they appreciate Maurice by not taking many shots. I think there was a 20 minute period where they did not have a shot on goal.

Losing to a team that's missing their top two centres and is a bottom feeding team, one word: pathetic.

San Jose was missing their top two centres. They had a 40 year old Thornton completely school the Jets.

You really enjoy pointing out these same facts repeatedly.
One more fact is that one year ago a right side of DeAngelo/Pionk/Shatty/Fox was virtually nothing but question marks. Had they known that DeAngelo was about to smarten up, grow up and be a monster on the ice, that Pionk would play better than ever by far, and that Fox would be a bonafide stud, then yes, you are probably right. They should not and most likely would not have made that trade.
Next year's cap hell is real, no doubt. But, I much prefer having Trouba to Shatty. He simply never earned his contract in New York. Good for him for rebounding the way he has.

I really do enjoy pointing this out. yes. And technically you will have trouba and shatty next season, well their 14M anyway. I enjoy watching the Jets, and Trouba was nothing but a cancer, despite all his athletic talents. I was very happy with the way the trade worked out, but still can't wrap my head around why the Rangers pursued him that aggressively. Regardless, your RD is stacked, your LD is questionable, and that cap crunch is no joke.

Look at the stats. Just 7 Jets recorded 1+ shots on goal. Not a single bottom 6 player registered a shot. The top 6 looked great, and in a dominant 3rd period, the jets somehow got outscored 2-0. Just an off game, and I don't blame Maurice for being furious over that lost goal challenge. Pushing a goalie into the net with your stick is not "indirect" contact. A blown opportunity at 2 points, but with the Yotes and Oils sliding down, there is plenty of hope.

There was no answer for these hits by Kane. Even the elbow to Pionck's head, Scheifle was right there and after Kane gave Scheifle a face wash with his glove, Scheifle decided that he would back off.

Kane would have made short work of Scheifle had it went further. But, Kane got away with it all night.

There is no grit on this team.

Jets are 29 25 5 with 23 games left.

So, lets say they go .500 the rest of the way and win 12 more game and get 41 wins, get a couple more loser points along the way, 7, and end with 34 losses. That's 89 pts. (41 34 7)

I posted on this board back around or before Christmas that the team would finish the year at 42 33 7. (91 pts)

Let's see how close I get to my prediction.

So far the narrative is:
Good goaltending (Helle sv% .919 nothing bad about that)
Horrible defence
No grit up front or on the backend
Great top 6
Bottom 6 work in progress
Add as you wish

Only Roslovic left from that trade and nothing to show for Lemieux and Armia, fans should be booing Chevy for his terrible asset management.

Don't deserve to make the playoffs when you can't beat an old team that's missing it's
1C and 2C, pathetic indeed!

this is the same system that worked well just 2 years ago. (107pts?)

Something I like about the man/zone they run is that almost all shots are contested and lower the quality of the shot.

- 2.0

Did it work well or was that just a lot of individually talented players having great seasons and a Vezina caliber season from Helly.
Also the system then was a more aggressive forecheck, that isn't what they're doing now in the offensive zone.
The defensive zone system is so extermely flawed, the wingers collapse down in the defensive zone which leads to point shots through screens and deflections which are the most difficult shots for a goalie to stop, that's a terrible system/strategy.

And really if we dissect the 17-18 playoffs they beat a Wild team that's goalie fell apart and was missing it's top dman from the start and one of its top forwards midway through the series, beat the Preds in a hard fought series but who's goalie blew it in game 7 and the Jets had NO answer whatsoever for what Vegas was throwing at them so yeah I'd say these systems don't work. I didn't think the Jets were gonna pull it off in 17-18 and these systems clearly didn't work last season.

Unless these systems change it isn't gonna matter much who the personnel is.

In the Scheifele case, I believe he took a peak and saw a penalty being called, and backed off. If he had of got an instigator fans would have called him "selfish." But you're right, the Jets lack grit, we all know that.

Leafs made a trade for tough guy, Kyle Clifford, Jets need to do same, although, say what you want, Adam Lowry would have helped. Kane, the tough s.o.b. going after Pionk all night, should have gotten four "deliberate attempt to injure" penalties. He would have been down on hjs knees praying if Buff had been there.

Helle made some great saves, but for whatever reason, had a problem with his rebound controls. Rotten call on first goal!

Great push late in the game for the Jets but too many posts. Did everything but put puck in net!
