3 times in 5 years, 60% playoff appearances, this year TBD

2015 has nothing to do with questionable coaching either. Pavelic turned in a .891 playoff average after having the best year (2014/2015) of his career at .920. His career average btw was .907 and couldn't even maintain that crappy stat in the playoffs. .891 ain't taking your team anywhere.

I will make mention that Buf just came from injury for the playoffs I beleive and Trouba was playing with a broken bone in his hand in 2015, but Pavelic didn't even give them a chance as he simply wasn't good enough. And, Enstrom came out of the series misaligned as Anaheim threw the puck to his corner and hammered the crap out of him, and ppl said he wasn't tough enough.

BTW.........Helle's playoff sv% in 2017/2018 was .922 and .913 in 2018/2019. Career playoffs for Helle is .919 So, even at .922, Helle got outplayed by Fleury in 2017/2018 (.927)

So, Pavelic's subpar .891 crappy sv% in 2015 playoffs was a major contributing factor for the early exit.

If you want to look for excuses for Maurice or any other coaches lack of success you can find them.

But I thought the goal was to win a stanley cup not just make the playoffs 60% of the time. If that was the case Babcock (75%), DeBoer (100%), and Laviolette (100%) would still have jobs with the teams they started the season with.

Speaking of 2015. That year the Jets had ZERO 30 goal scorers and only 2 players crack 60 points (Ladd 62. Wheeler 61) Buff was the only defenseman to crack 30 points with 45.
Now through 5 years of draft and development they are on pace for 4 30 goal scorers 5 60 point producers at forward, 2 30 point defenseman, not to mention a vezina caliber goalie and somehow the Jets are worse off this year.

what I am getting at is the writer of the blog complained about the Rangers spending money
- jimbro83

False. I said the Rangers could sign another free agent for 11 million. And they can, because players want to live there and the organization has the money.

With Maurice being extended here’s what we can expect,

-Shiefele will never be called out for not back checking or lazy play
-connor will never be called out for team worst zone exits and horrible defensive play
-Ehlers will never play top line or top pp
-wheeler will continue to be the other teams best penalty killer against our pp as he holds the puck and does nothing
-systems will never be changed and injuries and personal will continue to be excuses for poor play
-pk will continue to be leagues worst
-vets will never be blammed or held accountable, blame will always goto kids
-assistant coaches who have done nothing will go nowhere

Bright future we have

I am not looking for excuses, just pointing out years like 2015 wouldn't have mattered who was coaching. The result wouldn't be any different. You need a goalie that can stop the puck and there was no chance at the cup with Pavelic as your #1.

Helle is a big upgrade, tho. Its possible to make a run with this goalie and the right additions / deletons.

PoMo remaining. No biggie. Luck plays just as much a part in winning the cup in the playoffs. Who get's hot, stays healthy and gets the bounces. See St. Louis. A post prevented Dallas from knocking them out. Coach Berube planned to take seven games against Boston to win the cup?

The Great Babcock (sarcastic) was run out of TO and ensured himself due to odd line ups and player usage also to be the biggest Richard by preventing Modano from playing his 1500th game. Nor did he accepted being questioned.

Hire Gallant because.........................he's a different face? He is available because................?

Po Mo remaining. No biggie.

This

St. Louis didn’t even make the playoffs in 2017/2018. Next year they win the cup.

Goalie upgrade was a huge factor.

Stanley Cup winning goalies SV%:

2019 STL Binnington .914
2018 Wash Holtby .922
2017 Pitt Murray .937
2017 Pitt Fleury .924
2016 Pitt Murray .923
2015 Chi Crawford .924
2014 LA Quick .911
2013 Chi Crawford .932
2012 LA Quick .946
2011 Bos Thomas .940

Don't see any subpar .900 or below SV% winning the cup.

EDIT: That is the playoff SV% in the playoff year they won.

Yesterday you said he was responsible for Laine's excellent development! What made you change your mind about Maurice?
- TheUltimateJet

let me correct you, I said we can not blame Maurice for everything and stand by that. one can not say he doesn't develop anyone but then not give him any credit for Laine's improved 200' game.

I want Maurice shifted to a new role in the organization and I want a new coach, but I can give Maurice credit for some things.

so, to summarize, I haven't changed my mind at all.

I’m not sure how to properly type out my reaction when I saw the tweet about his extension.
I think “AAAAASAASSGGGGGHHHH” gets close, but that’s neither long nor loud looking enough.
I deadass would've caused someone at work to call 911 in case I was dying had everyone else not been on lunch.

I for one and happy to see Maurice resigned for three years. Not every coach is perfect but I personally think that Maurice is a top tier coach and there are only a few other coaches in the league that would have had the Jets still contending for a playoff spot in the face of all the adversity we have had this season.

Maurice has us contending, now its Chevy's turn to get one or two more pieces that are not just rentals. A tall task for sure. Dumba remains the single best possible replacement out there for Buff if he is available.

Of course you are, and if the Jets finish the season 7-17 would your opinion change?
The Jets were under no pressure to give him a contract before seeing how the season plays out.

Yes and no, When the coach’s future is unclear it can become an excuse for poor responses to coaching. We didn’t want a lame duck situation.

Really. I think its a situation where lots of teams want him including Seattle and Maurice's contract runs out at the end of the season. At that point, he might get offered some insane amount to go to Seattle or somewhere else and we lose him. Best to get it done now while no tampering can happen and he doesn't see those offers.

I know about half of you want him out but you should ask yourselves if there really is anyone out there that would be a decent replacement. Gallant...no chance. I don't see good alternatives. Anyone out there would be a steep downgrade

Helle deserves 95% of the credit for us at least having a shot at the playoffs this year.

There is no evidence or way of knowing if any coach could do any worse than Maurice.
