Let me ask what roster changes the Pens, Caps, Bruins, Bolts, Leafs and Bruins have made in this past off season?
Fact is the teams that did suck balls, except for the BJs who were gonna suck for years.

- nyisles7

The teams you mentioned outside the Leafs have had a lot more success than the Isles. The Isles are not in a position to keep bringing back basically the same team. When the Isles can win more than one round then we can talk about maybe not making a lot of moves. Whether we like it or not, Isles have a lot more questions with their roster. Players like Lee, Bailey, Nelson, and Eberle do not have the best playoff track record and especially when the team gets to a 2nd round.

Not sure what your point is but all those teams are and have been playoff teams for most of the past decade.

The Islanders have a very nice core imho, so we will disagree on the roster. They made the POs last year and probably will again this year. That’s what every teams goal is during the season, once that’s achieved of course they want to move on and win the Cup. Lou has tried to add pieces to build and it has worked out with FAs. Let’s hope he can get something done at the trade deadline.
If you looked at Tampa’s roster you you believe they didn’t win a round last year? Or the Pens or Leafs? It’s more about the team and how they play together and the chemistry more so than individuals on paper.
The POs are a different season and any team no matter what their roster is or how many years it’s been the same, or where they finished in the standings can win the Stanley Cup. Ask the Blues. There’s a reason why the Presidents Trophy winning team usually don’t win the Cup.

I just do not believe in this roster 7 in terms of being a serious Cup threat. I hope I'm wrong but I do not think so. I do not see players like Bailey, Nelson, and Eberle being counted on game in and game out during the playoffs. I really like the Isles D core and especially when Pelech is healthy and Dobson appears to be coming along nicely. The forwards and goalies seem to be lacking though. The Pens and Lighting were out in the 1st round last year but more times than not they will have a good chance with their rosters. Isles have top coaching now but you still need players that can make the big play during the tight checking playoffs series. I know it was Cappy but we saw what happened to the Isles during that Tampa 2nd round series. We also saw what happened last year against the Canes.

It’s just a gong show asking for the roster to be torn down and trade core pieces because they didn’t win the second round last year. Year 1 under Lou and Trotz they made the POs after losing JT for Christmas sake and will probably make them again.
And we need to change the roster because Ebs, Nelson etc didn’t score in the second round?
I think it’s ridiculous talk you need to add to this roster not rip apart the core.

Nobody said to tear down this roster and they could not even tear it down anyway with these contracts. Making the playoffs is all well and good but it's not as special as it was in the past with these 3 point games. Isles will be judged on their playoff performance and no longer just on making the playoffs. I have no idea how you can be confident in players like Eberle and Nelson based on their past playoff track record. Yes they swept the Pens last year but most of the playoff record for players like Lee, Nelson, Bailey, Eberle, and Casey is not good. You mention the Blues but they have players like Tarasenko, Schenn, O'Reilly, Schwartz, Pietrangelo that have more ability and consistency than players like Bailey, Eberle and Nelson and Leddy,

Ok so you can’t win with these players then trading them or getting rid of them would be a total rip down because who would be left in your top 6?
Who’s roster is better? The Leafs, Tampa, Oilers ( to name a few ) or the Islanders? How did these teams make out in the POs? Again individual players make not a team. Do the Islanders need another piece or two, of course every team does. Are they a terrible team that should be ripped apart for Me the answer is no. Add to this team and go for it.
Just remember how good the Rags and Devils were going to be this year with their Roster changes. The Rags are better but will they make the POs, probably not. The Devils actually are worse. The BJs roster last year was staked and this summer was stripped down and they are in the PO hunt. The Islanders last year were going to be shat and they were not. You can’t just look at a roster and determine how well a team will play imho. Just doesn’t work like that.

You and I will just agree to disagree on the state of the roster.

You cannot just add without removing salary in a Cap world. Maybe the smart thing was letting a player like Eberle walk instead of giving him 6 years and a NTC. Maybe Lou could have traded Leddy in the offseason for another forward or the Isles went with Wahlstrom to start the season with Barzal? I never said the Isles are a terrible team. I just do not think they are good enough for a long playoff run. Seeing Garth and Cappy bring back pretty much the same roster has not worked and I doubt it works for Lou and Barry. Barry did not win a Cup with the Preds because he did not have enough talent. Barry won with the Caps because he had the talent. Coaching is very important but it's still very much about having the players to win. It's not just about talented players like the Leafs have proven. You need players willing to sacrifice and take a ponding to get through these playoffs and I do not think the Isles have enough of these players. I hope I'm wrong but so far I've been proven right.

Eberle is a proven scorer so is Lee. The one variable on that line is Barzal. I’ll say it again losing JT was huge and he wasn’t replaced. The Islanders are in good shape Cap wise compared to most of the top teams. ( waiting for Chiefs to chime in )
It’s easy to say your team isn’t good enough to win the cup because the odds are your going to be right

You got to stop with this Jesus😂

They had vastly improved rosters while adding the top UFA along with a highly touted prospect. Also, the Devils added Subban who no one could’ve predicted would have the worst season of his career along with two of the last first overalls. The Rangers are a much improved team the Devils unpredictably crapped the bed by everyone besides you evidently. It’s hockey it happens sometimes.
Nobody said either team was winning the cup just that they were most likely improved and in the Rangers case that is true.

Eberle and Lee are not proven playoff scorers. You need two way players in the playoffs willing to block shots and drive the net and get dirty and that's not Eberle, Bailey, and Nelson. Cap space only helps if you can attract or trade for top talent. Let's see what Lou does at the deadline and let's see if this team can find consistent good play.

Isles simply are not at the point they can have quite offseasons not brining in outside talent. It did not work for Garth and will not work for Lou. Teams around the Isles try to improve every year. Some teams it works very well and others not so much. The fact is they at least tried and understood they needed improvements.

Hey I’m not saying this to say it again but it certainly proves a point that by merely looking at individuals on a roster doesn’t mean jack shat. How many times do we have to hear the same old shat about the roster? Mean while the team is having success. The Devils and Rags signed players not just to be better. When you make that type of investment you want to make the POs imho.

So your saying I’m right I love to be right

Then place on top of that the best team year after year in the regular season doesn’t win the Cup. Just shows how much different the game is in the PO’s.

Huge difference from Snows last Roster to Lou’s first opening day roster Ses.

Take a look at the two and how many different players are on the team.

Lous had the team for 1.5 seasons
