Maybe writz buys out rockford and the wolves become blackhawks ahl team. That would make more sense if the wolves were the hawks ahl team affiliate. Plus the wolves have a tv deal more exposure for the hawks young players.
- Scott1977

There is bad blood between the Wolves and the Blackhawks. Wolves are still tweaking the Hawks in their current advertising as ‘Chicago’s Winning Team’.

From Powers yesterday, in an article about Blackhawk prospects.

10. The Blackhawks have looked to Europe a number of times in recent years to acquire players. They’ve had luck with such European players as Artemi Panarin, Erik Gustafsson, Michal Kempny, Dominik Kahun and Dominik Kubalik.

Considering that, I put out feelers to European scouts about potential top free agents after this season. One Czech Republic scout mentioned defenseman Peter Ceresnak, a former New York Rangers draft pick.

“Perhaps big, righty, 6-3 defenseman Peter Ceresnak playing in Plzen could be a consideration, as he has a very good two years and at 26 could be a good addition as a defensive D who can also move the puck,” the scout said

Thanks for sharing this tidbit. Good thoughts on Blackhawks scouring Europe to find gems. Hope they continue that trend and find another one at whatever position.

One downside to Ceresnak as an option is that he's a RHD and could potentially block Mitchell from a spot with Murphy and Boqvist locks as starters next season and Seabrook set to return if rehab goes well.

Don't know much about Ceresnak so he could very well be NHL material but I'd rather reserve a RHD spot for Mitchell.

Exactly my point. The Hawks would have won in 2010 with just about any goalie, because the rest of the team was stacked. If you play your cards right, there’s no need to ever pay top dollar for a goalie.
- Ogilthorpe2

Correct, but are these Hawks anything close to the 2010 iteration? These Hawks need a top notch goalie, whomever that may be.

Powers has an in depth analysis of Ryan Shea of Northeastern. Here are a couple of tidbits on Euros.

4. The Blackhawks could look to bring over two of their Russian prospects next season. I mentioned recently that Max Shalunov is interested in talking with the Blackhawks, and that’s also true of winger Andrei Altybarmakyan.

Altybarmakyan’s KHL contract expires after this season, and his agent said Friday that he then planned to talk with the Blackhawks. Altybarmakyan, 21, has six goals and 10 assists in 42 games.

5. Speaking of Shalunov, he has been playing his best hockey of the season lately. He has five goals and four assists in his past nine games. I asked a KHL scout Friday whether he thought Shalunov could play in the NHL.

“Close,” the scout said. “With Russians, you never know if they’re happy if their role is limited compared to the KHL.”

I'd rather Stan find another Kahun or Kubalik (or Panarin). Ceresnak may be a decent insurance policy, but I wouldn't want him to play ahead of Boqvist or Mitchell (if he's NHL ready).

Don't need a pilot to fly the plane, except when you do and it's impossible to keep a stacked team together.
- rpeters01

If you didn’t have a pilot who would wake you up with PA announcements pointing out all of the interesting landmarks?

I expect Shalunov to join the Hawks next season and be given the Nylander treatment.

Burning question here is: why would a team that drafts and signs many European/SwedishFinnish etc al players not have signed him if he was a very promising player. Late bloomer perhaps but how do we determine if he is another like Holm. Not able to even stand out in AHL.Perhaps Holm was ok with Wolves but given a tougher assignment to be competent with Icehogs, he was a fail.

It is a gamble. Bowman has to consider how many contracts for organization (50) and if he is bringing Galvas over.

No need for Wirtz to buy Rockford Icehogs. Their relationship is working fine. No one said Rockford wanted to sell. Just that Vegas had the cash and was looking for suitable team/location to purchase.

Trade proposal: Pageau for Nylander.

Pageau is UFA after the season so possibly Ottawa would want to get something for him. Nylander is RFA after next season so Ottawa would have him for $865K which is important for a cheap budget team like Ottawa.

Pageau is a pretty good skater and scorer and a very good faceoff guy. Maybe he wouldn't want to resign with the Hawks or his salary demand would be more than the Hawks could afford - so maybe he would only be a rental and then the question is losing Nylander worth him as a rental. My thought is yes because I've kind of written off Nylander at this point so at the very least it would be an upgrade for the stretch run this season.

Thoughts?

- EbonyRaptor

I understand the frustration you have with Nylander. I too am frustrated but as another blogger stated, too soon to give up on Nylander and until Chicago is still looking like we can challenge for a playoff spot on trade deadline day.....only THEN would you consider this trade. I would not do it because long term I do not want smallish #2 or #3 offensive Pageau moreover we aren't going to get past first round so why even trade for an upgrade. Long term Pageau may be an upgrade in your mind but Bowman surely wants to give his Joki trade time to work out. Just IMHO

Thanks for sharing more from this Powers article.

Of the 3 Russian forward prospects (Shalunov, Kayumov, Altybarmakyan), Altybarmakyan is supposedly the most electrifying talent. Not Panarin good as Breadman is one of a kind but possibly similar to Gusev?

Bring over whichever of them is motivated to cross the pond. Kayumov just signed a 2-year contract with Lokomotiv two months ago so he's not coming over (if at all) until 2022.

Shalunov is much older than these two (27 vs 21) and I believe had a chance to come over a few years ago but did not for whatever reason.

I'd invest in Altybarmakyan if I had to choose just one.

If you think I don't like Lehner, this will be child's play compared to my rants if they signed that giant POS Mike Smith

No word on Kurashev's return from injury. Tough to get intel on Rockford injuries as far as time tables.

Galvas is in his first year of a 2-year contract in the Finnish pro league after 3 sesaons in the Czech pro league. Guessing it's not as hard to break from contract in the Finnish league as it is the KHL.

I'd prefer Galvas start gaining pro experience in North America next season in Rockford. Despite his size (5'11", 161), he's quite strong and physical as a more defensively wired blueliner.

It all depends on Stan’s plan. Do we want to be competitive but no chance to build a cup winning team? Then we sign Lehner for big money/term. Do we want to build a cup contender? Then we build defensemen and forwards first. See Habs and Price, always middle of the road due to elite goaltending, JMHO.

I have tried and tried to find some hidden strong points to Nylander's game. And so far, I just don't see anything. It sure is a giant disappointment. If Stan can get anything for him, bye bye. What did Mark Kelley see ?? I have no idea. A truly horrible trade.

Shalunov has not played well all year until the last couple of weeks in the KHL. He has 14 goals. He has been the doghouse a couple of times this year. He reminds me a lot of Nylander and Bickel. He is big and fast , great shot, handles the puck well, plays very good defense however, he doesn't always show up for game... He drifts a lot like Bickel did during the season and then cranks out goals in the playoffs.

I'm with you. I'm waiting and waiting for him to turn the corner but that may not come thisn
season.

However, with all of that said, here is a great article from Ben Pope about Nylander's success entering and exiting zones.

It might shed a sliver of optimism.

It's all about the future. While I want them to be competitive, I would bet against making the playoffs. Down the stretch as a team collectively we are not tough enough for hard physical grind out games. The blueline crew is suspect. Great goaltending can carry you far, though. I just do not know if Toews and Keith have the effort necessary.... for whatever reasons....which I think is more about health with Toews and attitude with Keith. Just guessing with those two leaders as they have been off and on a lot the past couple years. Their on ice performance speaks for itself. That is reality. Betting on Blackhawks is a risky bet. Even if Lehner and or Crawford remain superb.

Other: now I see Soderlund out again as well as Kurashaev continues injured.
