Tyler Cameron: Ten thoughts from two games
We have a lot to cover after the Hawks two overtime losses vs. Minnesota and Boston.

I have ten thoughts from these games, so let's get into it.

Tough loss. Back to back ot games.

Last night they had more chances but missed. Kampf had a gimme tap in he jacked up. Toews hit the bar.

Debrincat Gus hit posts tonight.

It’s going to get more intense as the season wanes down. I already wrote them off weeks ago so I’m in the bonus mentally ....😂

Their pk and goaltending is masking a lot of issues here. No team is perfect but hawks have less room for error.

Hopefully 12 gets rolling.

If he can all of a sudden start scoring in bunches would obviously be good. Strome has had a couple of meh games which isn't surprising given he's just coming back from injury.

Somehow a so so couple games for him has translated into a terrible season for some. Guy was on a .75 PPG clip after a slow start and he was just starting to look really confident, shooting more and burying his chances.

Getting those two going and Kubalik getting hot again on the trek through CAN would be welcome sights.

Hope Boq is ok. I know the result shouldn't influence the penalty but thought Krecji could have gotten five on that one.

First...and second.

Was pulling a Wiz, posting in the last thread when I noticed Tyler had started a new convo.

Is it truly a Wiz though if the thread is still only on the first page?

Alright this is getting rigoddamndiculous, but great write up TC!

Appears I was on the same page with a couple of your thoughts when I was answering Steve's post from the last thread.

Dach has been playing really well and as many have stated, he's been progressing along with the season. That was a great play last night...kind of Hossaesque and he had the one against the Wild too that had he finished would have made quite a few highlight reels.

The goalies picked the team up the last few games but hoping the team finds it's legs on the trip.

Also, was going to ask you about the refs telling Toews they blew the call. Was that because they could see Maatta touch the puck with his stick before it advanced to Caggiula?

Speaking of Caggiula, really hoping they can find a way to keep him next season. Like what he brings to the team.

Where is Bettman on this issue of the refs "screwing up the call"? IT was a nationally televised game (he is trying to get a new TV contract, isn't he), and he sits on his hands while the refs make a mockery of the game? He is worthless.

And it is very sad when the players are telling the refs what to call.

For those expecting a great return if we trade Crow or Lehner, the Campbell trade might serve to lower expectations.

Are the Hawks the worst team in the league at making line changes, especially in overtime. If you rewatch that goal in OT the line change was a mess.

Well we all know Bettman hates the hawks so the call was never screwed up.

Teams have game planned and are much more aware of Kubalik now. We will see if he can still score with teams paying more attention to him. I will say he is still playing a rugged 200' game. He wins board battles. I would not mind seeing him play with Dach and Kane. ALso would like to see him on the 1st PP unit.

Jack Campbell is not on the same plane as a goaltender as Lehner and Crawford. Actually, the Kings are glad to have traded him as it frees up room for Cal Peterson. Toronto gets a better back up goaltender for a prospect that probably tops out as a 3C.

That was a back up goalie where the 3rd becomes a 2nd if Campbell wins 6 games.

Now what does a 1 goalie get you? It’s going to be a 1st+

The real standings

_____________ GP PTS PTS/G
Blues_________54 72 1.333 1st Cen
Av's__________51 64 1.255 2nd Cen
Stars_________ 53 65 1.226 3rd Cen
Canucks______54 65 1.204 1st Pac
Oilers________ 53 62 1.170 2nd Pac
Flames_______54 60 1.111 3rd Pac
Knights_______55 61 1.109 WC
Yotes________ 55 61 1.109 WC
Preds________ 52 57 1.096
Hawks_______ 54 58 1.074
Jets __________54 57 1.056
Wild _________52 54 1.038
Sharks________54 50 0.926
Ducks________53 49 0.925
Kings_________54 43 0.796

I think the Preds will be one WC team. We should be hoping two of the top 5 Pacific teams slump and miss the playoffs. The problem is the Pacific top 5 play a ton of games against the weak Ducks, Kings, and Sharks.

Campbell isn’t a great comparative. He’s more a backup where both of the hawks goalies are starters. That said, if a contender were to lose their starter due to injury the hawks may be able to ask for the sky, and get it.

If you are looking at careers there is no comparison. But if you are looking at the last two years they are comparable. This is this year.
Campbell 28 yrs old. 20 games started. 8 W, 10 L, 2 OT, .900 Save %, 2.85 GA
Crow 35 yrs old, 26 games started. 10 W, 13L, 3 OT, .912 Save %, 2.91 GA

Crow has 2 cups and won a ton of big games in his career. But the last cup was 5 years ago. Crow also has had 2 concussions.
Campbell is 7 years younger.
Also Crow is a rental. Campbell is signed for 2 more years at $1.65 mil.

You know for all the crap Stan takes on this board, i had to realize last night while watching our top line of toews, kubalik and caggiula that 2/3 of that line was acquired for what a 5th round pick and Brandon manning. 2 very good trades that some how always get missed.

Once again dreadful officiating last night and the Bruins certainly took advantage of it.
But at the same time the Bruins outplayed the Hawks for most of the evening, Hawks at several points couldn't get out of their own end.

Losing Bodqvist was a killer hopefully he's back soon.

The make or break road trip begins...

I’ve been spewing a lot of negativity around here lately, but truth is we eeked out a pt in each of these past 2 games despite playing the worst possible hockey imaginable. Not bad. I expect us to play much better on the upcoming road trip. Playoffs are well within reach.

Tbf Stan did sign Manning but this certainly qualifies as turning lemons into lemonade.

These are the types of moves though that muddy the waters too much for the "Stan sucks" or "Fire Stan" contingent of angry villagers.

They usually get a grudging mention but are buried in a litany of "bad trades" viewed through the hindsight lens.

I thought that was just you going a little Daniel Day Lewis on us and unable to break character while embracing the ARob role.

Don’t forget, the recognition for good trades/moves goes to Scotty, not Stan.

Stan is responsible for only the bad transactions.

True. If Campbell returned a 3rd then Lehner will get the Hawks a 5th and Crawford a conditional 7th.

Overall I would agree. But I think of two considerations.
1) We played last night against the leading point getter in the entire NHL and they are pretty healthy and on a good roll.
2) We are not playing the "worst possible hockey imaginable", unless you have forgotten the stretches at the earlier part of this season and the earlier part of last season. Now that was AWFUL. We are not playing great, but much better than those times.

I bet Lehner gets moved for a 1st and conditional 3rd and then resigns with the Hawks
