Could be they want Gilbert to develop on the farm, while this guy is the career 7D in Chicago.

Agree. KK is playing well enough to play every night. They want Gilbert developing whether that's in chicago or rockford.

This appears to make the most sense. Just a quick glance at his stats from last season, he looks like a borderline 3rd pair guy. Willing to block shots, not as physical as Gilbert and doesn’t appear to make many turnovers. No idea how he plays positionally or how he skates.

Have to wonder what his conditioning is since he’s only played a few games this season.

Rockford is employing too many ECHL players and those players do not appear to be helping. Gilbert would certainly play regularly and Icehogs try to win with good defense + very good goaltending. Their offense is so so if injured players return .

Realistic

And then Chicago could play the trade our prospects game
Bergevin has been after Beaudin. Although he has drafted a few dmen whom seem promising. Know a couple were in recently concluded WJC.

Drouin would be too big a fish to catch. Don't know if the kid.they have playing now (Poloski) is worth Beaudin. Probably Beaudin being a dman commands higher value.

There is no reason to think a prospects traded for each other actually occurs. But some lesser rated dmen have been deemed useful then later someone takes their job. Yet another team finds the dman useful. Examples:;Reilly, Scandella. Seeler

Another point is this: high hopes, future plans when you draft a kid. Then you see how the kid progresses as well as all your other prospects and you look at expansion + your NHL roster. Is Beaudin still the same player you envisioned him to become. Maybe. Don't really know. But I do know an option is to swap SOMEONE such as a prospect for a center IF you don't think you will see the players you like last to your #1 2020.

If you want to know why Bowman at one time was rumored interested in this kid, find his draft year and read wiz report on draftsite.com. This kid had an NHL hat trick for Montreal last game of last season. Was injured early this season - I think concussiin- but after returning before the Xmas holidays (thereabouts) he dresses each game although not scoring much.

Who the heck is Poloski? They have Jordan Weal , Nick Cousins and Joel Armia playing on their PP. They are in no position to move any offense. So Drouin is out. He is injured, too.

Any vibe on the reason we claimed that Minny D? Trade coming or does Rockford need depth?

There’s no doubt that the Hawks have been rebuilding on the fly for a couple of years. While the middle is normally not a good place to be, it is if you have young players contributing, which we do. We cannot mortgage the future, stick to the plan and if you bring a young forward or two in, they better be 200’ players. We won our cups with Hossa, Sharp, Shaw, and Saad on the wings, all 200’ players. Currently we have Saad and Kubalik, we need more of these type of players, not less. While Drouin is a good offensive player, and also probably not available, that’s not the type of forward that we need, unless we were to get him in a great deal of course. Go young or go home, expiring contracts enticed by picks or young prospects are okay.

By the way, stat of the day. Kubalik has more even strength goals than McDavid, yet not on first power play. Then again, we have to get him on a good three year deal, so maybe that’s the strategy, and they keep hoping that Dcat gets it going.

I meant sending Seeler to Rockford. I don't know why the Hawks need another slow footed D-man. They have enough.

Rather see Gilbert playing than sitting. If that was your point, I definitely agree.

- Elbows15

He's subject to being claimed again if they try to send him down, is he not? I would guess they could send Gilbert down and not have to use another call up they would rather not use. How many call ups not related to injuries/emergencies is an NHL team allowed in a season?

I would like to see Kubalik on the right point dropping down to right circle on the PP. Boqvist at the left point dropping down to left circle. Dach and Toews alternating down low and in front of the net. Kane in motion, though mainly at the left circle.

The 2nd PP could be ADB, Strome down low, Saad in front of the net, Gus left point and Keith right point. I would not mind seeing Smith perched in front of the net either. I know that Smith is not popular. But his speed would not be a factor, he is a big body and has decent hands.

Liked that thinking regarding Smith. Doesn't shy away from dirty areas, either. I wouldn't be reluctant to give it a shot.

Yeah,he is. Think it is unlimited as long as they have the cap space to call up the player.

IMO, Montreal will be in the selling mode and won't be moving any of their young prospects like Poehling or Suzuki. Similar as if the Hawks were sellers at the TDL, nobody here would want them to move the likes of Dach, Boqvist, or Beaudin.

The reason they made this move is because Rockford is struggling defensively with injuries. Seeler can't go down without passing through waivers, but Gilbert can. So you can send Gilbert down to develop more and get top pairing minutes in Rockford, and you pick up a guy who can sit in the press box for 90% of the games the rest of the stretch run and it doesn't matter that he's sitting.

TSN is reporting the Jets and Big Buff are to mutually part ways. Does anyone have an update on Buff's health and/or if there could be interest from the Hawks?

That ship has sailed way long ago. The Hawks do not need Buff at this stage of his career.

He has scored 25 goals in the NHL. I am not saying great hands.

If he can win faceoffs, stand in front of the net, knock in rebounds, distribute the puck a little, that would be an upgrade on the 2nd PP unit.

Per TSN. Byfuglien, 34, has not resumed skating since undergoing ankle surgery in late October. He reportedly began rehabbing the injury in consultation with the Jets in mid-December, but hasn’t progressed to the next step in the process.

A hard NO!
