Can't we do both? Can't we trade you Lehner, lean on Crow and keep winning? He has looked pretty good lately.
What is Lehner as a rental worth to you? You have an extra 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in next years draft. Would you give up your first or Toronto's first (lottery protected)? If not a first would he be worth the 2nd and 3rd you got from the Rangers and Sabres respectively? - -Doh-
I'd give up both 2nds and make one a conditional 1st. Becomes a 1st round pick if the Canes a) advance to the cup finals or b) sign Lehner to an extension. |

DO NOT GIVE UP HIGH DRAFT CHOICES for players !! While the Hawks were winning three cups, they really did not have that much in their farm system. They are getting better, but need to give stocking the system with good solid players. Sure superstars are nice, but tough to acquire. Load system with as many good solid all around players as possible and the only way to do this is not give up future assets. - chuckdahammer
Generally I agree. But let's say the Hawks draft 10th. They hopefully get a top 6 forward that is ready for the NHL in two or three years. If you are extremely lucky it could be sooner. If you are unlucky he turns out to be a bust.
Or you can trade the #1 pick (let's say top 5 protected) for a very young NHL player. Let's use Kapanen for example. 23 years old. Signed for $3.2 mil for 2 more years, and then is an RFA. Right handed (which is a shortage on the Hawks). Good size 6'1" 195. Speedy. 10 goals and 18 assists in 51 games. Acquiring him may allow you to trade Saad for picks and prospects and get even younger and save $2.8 mil in cap space next year, and even more in the 2nd and 3rd years. |

Same reason why you are asking for Lehner, fix a need.

If you move Lehner, I wonder what UFA Craig Anderson would cost at the TDL?
As far as keeping Lehner and risk losing him at year end? I have one word Columbus. Lehner sure has been responsible for a lot of the success this year, everyone thought Columbus would be a lottery team this year after losing Duchense, Dzingel, Bobrovsky, and Panarin for nothing, but they still had a good young core, not like the cupboard is bare.
Hawks have good players too. Hpoefully next yea with Mitchell, Da Haan not being injured and no Gus, the defense improves that wins are not based on goalie performance alone (even though in the NHL you still need your goalie to come up with the big save when needed0. - LAHawk
I would rather go with Crow and Lankinen or Delia than Craig Anderson. You would play Crow in maybe 17 games after the TDL. |

Yeah, I get it. But that contract is just too good of a value to give up unless there's a something really big coming back the other way.
...especially with Hamilton out. |

Nope, have to have one young asset NHL ready player in the deal. Preferably one of those young defenseman, can’t just be all potential draft picks because they could all turn out like Alain Daigle or Radek BonkAnd then we have nothing. It’s about time we start raping some teams instead of teams taken advantage of us. |

Why do you have the Preds in front of the Hawks and Jets? Games in hand don't guarantee victories, they need to win those games in order to to jump in front of the teams. As of right now, Preds have fewer points, and that is what matters at this moment. - powerenforcer
At minimum, projecting the point per game doesn't mean the same is going to hold, one win or loss and it changes. |

You can, Anderson could still be a black ace. I think if you let Lehner go, I think you still need a goalie with some NHL experience for the rest of the year. If the Hawks are in it, Crow would be playing 80% of the rest of the games. Forget about concussion, what happens, if Crow tweaks his groin again?

Trubinsky, could be the answer to our goaltending. Wonder, would he do a 5 year 4 million per year deal??? - hawk35
He gives too many rebounds to the other team. |

you wouldn't take a 2nd and a conditional 1st for a pending UFA goaltender? I mean, you kinda need those picks... |

Good question. I do not think you can get a legit top 6 forward for a #1 pick alone. You might be able to get a 2nd pairing dman for a #1 pick. But I think with the Hawks deep pool of defensive prospects I would try to make the playoffs with our current Dmen. I would probably save the draft picks and deepen the prospect pool, but for the right top 6 forward I could be swayed. - -Doh-
They don't have room for another $5-6m player. |

If Crow goes down to injury you get a better draft pick. AND you can say that you did not tank intentionally. Win Win |

Tough to trade a 1st for a pending UFA, especially with two other goalies still signed for next season.
I'd give up a 1st if they can extend him, for sure. |

So what's the scoop on Nick Seeler? I see only 6 games with the Wild this year, and he was a minus 6. Only six games prior with their minor league club before that, where he was a plus 9. Did he just come back from an injury? What did the Wild project him as prior to this development? |

It all depends on whether there's a couple contenders in need of a goalie at the deadline. If there are, the price would easily reach a 1st. If not, you get a good deal. |
