In today's Chicago Sun Times appears a feature on Mitchell. The story concentrates on ways he is improving his game but there are two other important statements given by Mitchell
First, he wants to concentrate on winning a national championship
And moreover to fans waiting his arrival on the Chicago blueline, YES YES YES he said he wants to sign with the Blackhawks as soon as he can (after his collegiate season has ended).
So there is prospect #5 Tyler
Oh BTW I heard Caufield wants to play a season in the Russian league to work on his defense! Just kidding Darth Kane! |

Funny you bring him up.
I have a part #2 this week of prospects that could emerge in 2020-21 - Mitchell is on that list as I believe he'll be more of a factor then vs. the 2-3 regular season (+ possibly playoffs) games he might get this year.
Thanks for posting, I'll check that story out. |

Their better be an opt-out option because both were extremely distracting and unnecessary in my opinion.
What are your thoughts?
Dear God, I hope they have some way of turning it off. They mentioned the technology would be available for the postseason. I really hope they don't ruin the games by plastering all the junk all over the screen.
I could see it being useful for stats tracking. It would be interesting to see all the data that comes out from it. I could also see it being useful for people who are new to hockey and aren't used to tracking the puck. But again, I'd really hope they have some sort of function that would allow you to turn it off. Then again, I've been hoping for years for a McGuire mute function and haven't gotten that yet, so... |

Great write up Ty! I think the emergence of the 4 you mention is important along with guys like 4K possibly cementing a spot and Murphy’s continued emergence as a top 4 dman.
If Nylander can build on some decent games he had before the break and find some consistency, that would obviously help a playoff push as well.
Will be interesting to see how the lines shake out with Strome’s return.
Also interesting will be where Wheeler in the Athletic ranks the Hawks prospect pool. He’s up to the 17 slot without them appearing in the rankings and based on the way he’s doing it, I would guess Dach and Kubalik probably won’t figure as prospects...likely Boqvist too. |

Glad you brought up Highmore. Many posters have been critical of his game but I have loved his heart and tenacity since I first saw him. He is a keeper and some fans will be eating crow. |

Tyler Cameron: Emergence of prospects is giving the Hawks a chance
How many of you watched the All-Star game?
Moving on to the "meat" of this blog; 4 youngsters that are helping contribute to the recent success of the Hawks. - Tyler Cameron
Allstar game is a joke, boring and not worth the time to watch. Ya lets see them shoot pucks from 100 feet up in the air. just dumb |

The Athletic is in the midst of a daily ‘Prospect Ranking’. Counting from the bottom, they’ve made it to #17, and the Hawks haven’t been mentioned. That means they’re likely ranked in the top half of the league, so we’ve got that going for us. |

Fast and a heck of a grinder. He won’t have too much trouble finding an NHL roster spot, either here or elsewhere. |

Yup. https://thehockeynews.com...t-it-into-the-sun-instead
"NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said Saturday that having the league shut down for two weeks every four years for the Olympics is, “extraordinarily disruptive.” Meanwhile, half the league is off for five days before the All-Star Game and the other half puts its feet up for the five days after. And the league takes a four-day break to put the event on. But it’s apparently too much for the league to take a two-week break every four years.
Next year’s All-Star Game is in Florida. Instead of going to the Sunshine State for the game, perhaps the NHL could just shoot this whole event into the sun." |

Haven't been worth anything in any sport since the 60's when athletes needed off season jobs and winning an all-star game meant some important extra bucks... |

It's great to see some of the young guys start to step up and take prominent roles with the team. This is something that has been SORELY lacking the past few years having young and cheap guys come in and make an impact. Let's hope they all can continue to build off of it AND we can get another wave to come in next year as well to help the team. That's how you build towards being a legit Playoff team and possible Cup contender again |

In baseball, in the 40s-50s-60s, the leagues were much more separate than they are now: no inter-league play, no inter-league trading (players had to be waived out of the league), it was much more common for players to be one-leaguers for life, so players (and fans) identified more with a league - and both wanted "their" league to win.
Until the expansion from the Original-6 teams - the Cup champion from the previous season played the All Stars from the other 5 teams before the new season began. Probably more incentive to play well in that situation, too. |

Hard to calculate how many NHL, AHL, and juniors players owe their careers to Kane's:
"His Calder Trophy-winning rookie campaign, and the subsequent three Stanley Cups he won with the Blackhawks, was part of a watershed moment for the league. Kane made it cool to be a little guy. He helped usher in an era where skill and speed trumped size and strength. General managers changed the way they looked at undersized skill players because of what Kane did."

Do you think the drop off between Lehner and CC are indicative of future performance?
If so, how good of a return in defensemen would it take to be worth it to flip Lehner to Carolina? |

Can’t watch the All-Star game. Hockey is a fantastic game based upon the dynamic interaction of speed, power and finesse. Remove any of the three elements during a game and you reduce it to a boring exhibition. The only sport whose All-Star game translates to what the game really is is MLB. Having said that, I think it’s a good forum for young kids to watch their sports heroes
The women’s game was entertaining but I expected more scoring and skill across the board. Some of the players were very skillful and I thought the Canadian goalie played very well. With regard to expanding the women’s game, these are the only two teams in the world that can compete against the other. It would have to be a pretty small league to be competitive. I guess you would have to look at whether you believe the WNBA is successful. It probably has a much larger pool of players to pull from and a wider audience base. Women’s hockey will always be a niche sport. Personally, I’d take a pass |

The midseason interleague games killed the all-star game. |
