Hasn’t everything that has happened since Q was fired proof that the biggest problem with the team at the time of the firing was the roster and not the coach?

Acquired since Q fired:
Da Haan
Maatta
Strome
Caggiula
Dach
Kubalik
Carpenter
Smith
Lehner
Nylander
Shaw
Koekkoek

Murphy was on IR that year until after Q was fired.
Plus some young guys have moved up and contributed like Boqvist and Highmore.

Two conclusions:
1) firing Q was a mistake. I’d love to see what he could do with the current roster.
2) Stan has done his best roster work since the last cup in the past year+

Also, Colliton was the wrong choice for this team; too young and inexperienced. But now he’s older and has more experience and it shows. I’m not sure he’s good enough To win a Cup yet and the clock is ticking. Do you really want him making his playoff debut next season? I predict he is here to start next season but if they start slow, he’ll be gone by New Year’s Day.

Per Q dismissal:
The team as constructed was not well & was not responding or partially not willing perhaps a bit of an attitude from some veterans.

Remember Toews traditionally starts slow and both Keith and Seabrook had issues.

Keith with the team being lousy and his defense partner. Seabrook struggling has been played not at 100% plus his slower skating affecting his skill/reactions - as if the game was too fast for him..clearly if you have an inferior team and you try to force young players on Q, he has difficulty.

I also believe that Q had run his course with a secretive strained relationship with Bowman. It was the correct call to move on. You see proof that Q can still win with his system when given a fresh start with a better team in Florida. The loosing culture was clearly just lasting too long for Q to continue to endure

You really cannot say if Q had Boqvist, a better Keith and Murphy.....that he could have still been coaching here. The Blackhawks are slowly trying to have a metamorphis like a Butterfly has had if you care to use that as an apology.

1 Firing Q was not a mistake ,3/4 of those players would be riding the pine or in the press box if Q was still here . For one reason ,Stan brought them in
2 Yes Stan has done his best work since Q the elephant in the room left . J.C. works with the new players ,instead of dismissing them out of hand .

Matt I agree, probably going to give this kid the rest of the season and may be the start of next season but after that?
Gallant is going to Detroit?
.................... the choice is.
Peter Laviolette????

The big question is, does Rocky even know who he is Given it sounds like he is not a hands on owner.

I think Stan needed his own guy but JC was not the right choice for a distinctly veteran team that was not likely to change its core soon. Stan may have underestimated how much they had slowed down to play the "system" of hockey he expected JC to install which has made it even harder on JC as the square peg in a round hole coach.

Something else nobody has pointed out yet: it was often said Q couldn't coach a power play. Well Florida has a pretty good power play and Chicago's sucks worse as every year the core gets older.

At the end of the day players play and coaches coach. If you're not winning enough look at the players. Earl Weaver said out of 162 games a manager was worth less than 10 games.

the years in Q reign often the pp was too predictable or easily read and anticipated our strategy plus often no net front presence. Another issue is Keith took too long to unload shots which were off mark or blocked. He never should have been on first power play unit. Oh I enjoyed the pictures posted here of double nets depicting Keith shooting accuracy.

I think Bowman screwed up a good kid, this guy should’ve been allowed to cook in the minors for years.

Would have been a better easier transition not to mention on the job decision making.

Hey being Tzachuk brother's fan I am sure you are following this on going saga between Dan Tzachuk (Calgary) and the jerk Kassian (Edm). In Edmonton they out up a big billboard so it was the city if Edm I believe that out up the billboard. Not the Oilers. This just raised the intensity and rivalry in a manner which is not safety conscious for those two players next time they meet

I’m going to pull a Stan Bowman. I had a dream last night which had us trading Saad to Pittsburgh. I woke up before I saw the return but people were excited. Don’t know how to interpret that.

The safe choice would of been to hire MacLelland, a coach with a long resume before the Kings did. Wonder how some on the board would react to the fact he is INSTALLING THE SAME DEFENSIVE SYSTEM COLLITON IS RUNNING WITH THE HAWKS.

Your pooptin? WTF leave it on the ice boys, the god dam fans are gonna wind up gettin one of these kids hurt with bullpoop like that.
I like Kassian but when the kid didn’t want to fight back then it’s over. Start running Gadreau and their skill.Calgarys guys then will tell Matt” either answer your own bell or knock off the mouthy bull crap. Agree with everybody, shouldn’t have to fight after a good clean check!
Problem is their isn’t enough proper body checking in the game anymore so these kids aren’t use to it so they get pissed off easy, and the others start crap and then hide behind the instigator rule and the refs back! JMO!

Laviolette, the guy who was fired because the team he coached that many said were Stanley Cup contenders has the same sprint to the playoffs that the Hawks do?

My only opinion is this current team that keeps the UC filled would be better served with a coach with more experience ( Lavi, Hitchcock,Ect. Or kept Q) not some kid they turn their asses up at.

I don’t post or follow baseball blogs, but am a Cub fan. So I guess Theo has made a huge mistake letting Madden go and hire someone who has no coaching or managerial experience at any level? Especially since the World Series window is closing on the Cubs?

So you are saying the Hawks have quit on the coach. I don’t see that in the games. I am not privy to what is said off the ice, I can only go by what I see on the ice. This team might start games asleep (they did plenty of times under Q), but I must be missing something if you are saying the players have quit on him.

I don’t know, sometimes I think maybe some of the veterans have turned a deaf ear to him,it’s only my opinion I think they should’ve kept Joel,And let this kid get a couple of more years experience coaching in Rockford. They rushed him into the show and hopefully did not ruin him. All I’m saying is if they decide to make another coaching change it should be someone with more experience.
And what Epstein did over on the northside he should’ve hired Joe Girardi with that group.
This is a freaking joke going dumpster diving all winter, I am a Cubs fan but I think the White Sox are going to win 90+ games this year and win their division.
Any sport where there is a soft cap and you have one of the top three richesT owners in baseball should’ve went the extra mile especially with this current core when it comes to free agents and managers.

Other than the fact their payroll is right at or above the luxury tax threshold, yes.

Their off-season has been held hostage by the arbitration decision regarding Bryant.

That is a good way to put it, it just kills me that they are going to probably wind up trading Chris Bryant rather than just going for it. Most of the core built to win now, What kills me is the rickets family is ultra rich, don’t know if you have been or live in the Chicago area up around Wrigley Field lately but it has vastly changed in the last 10 years. So this guy cannot cry broke because he owns just about everything around there. He should have the Steinbrenner‘s family mentality. Repeating I am a Cubs fan but I hope the White Sox win their division this year. And they didn’t pull the bullpoop with Luis Robert Like the Cubs did with Chris Bryant his rookie year.
