I’m still not against the Pens getting him, but my concern is his injury is one that he may not fully recover from until a full off-season, so long-term is great, but he may not have the immediate impact we would be hoping for.
Seems you signed on to play an entire season, but it looks like you quit playing about 2/3 of the way through, and I'd like for someone to tell me what the hell is going on.
Looking at the standings we’re still very much in striking distance of the Caps. I can’t remember the last time we were in serious striking distance of the conference lead this late into the season. - Victoro311
Top 3 in the Metro and I'll be happy. It doesn't look like there are going to be any easy teams in the Eastern playoffs, but I'd still like to avoid a scenario where we might have to get past the Bruins, Bolts, and Caps all in the same year.

I think I’d prefer Grandlund to Zucker. - j.boyd919
For whatever reason, I feel like Zucker is a perfect compliment to Sid (& Jake). Totally cool with Granlund though. Both are better options than Toffoli, imo.

Ideally we would acquire two players
one of:
Kreider
Zucker
Saad
Granlund
Rakell
Tatar
and one of:
Coleman
Smith
Wood

Why Glendening? It's hard to tell when you're being a smartass and when you're serious. - Rinosaur
Good cheap bottom 6 depth player. One of the best right handed face off guys in the league. Face offs are overrated but come playoff time you can’t be losing games do to late game face off losses.

IMO he's a good 4th liner who can jump to the 3rd in a pinch, but that seems like overkill for the Pens. They need more than a player like that.

I definitely prefer Granlund, too.
1. He's a rental so he should be cheaper. Easy out at the end of the season if he's not a fit and we can always extend or offer him a contract if he is a fit. He's also having a worse year than Zucker so he should be cheaper there, too.
2. He can play center so he could fill a need in a pinch.
3. He might be more of a RW which I think is more of a need. On the flip side, I don't know if he can play LW effectively.
4. Granlund has a better body of work and is a more consistent producer.
Ironically, they were both drafted by MIN in 2010, Granlund in the 1st round (9th overall) and Zucker in the 2nd round (59th overall).
I think it's possible that NSH might be interested in either Galch or Schultz. They need help on the PP and they also need to replace Ellis. They could also use a LW.

Haven’t you historically dumped on Glendening? - Victoro311
Yes but that’s before I learned how horrible rel stats paint him. Isolated impact wise he as actually an elite defensive forward. His numbers are just usually poor because he generally has terrible linemates and awful usage.

I feel that if JR really liked Toffoli he would already be a Penguin. My guess is that JR is really fixated on Zucker (it seems as though JR tends to get fixated on certain players) and JR is just waiting for the Wild to drop further out of the race and/or for the price to come down. Maybe Toffoli would be the consolation prize if Zucker falls through for whatever reason.
Of the others in the top list, I think Granlund is the only realistic target. On the bottom list, I think Smith is the only realistic target. Both are contingent on NSH dropping out of the playoff race.
Instead of two wingers, I would like to see us target a winger and a top 4 LD. I know that won't come cheap, but I think it would do wonders for our lineup. Maybe Suter would be foolish, but can you imagine this:
Dumo - Letang
Suter - Marino
Petts - Schultz
Talk about a mentor for Marino, too! Ok, that's the last time I'll mention Suter, but maybe there's a different top 4 LD who is available.
