cool story, not the story of the year. Other comparable or more interesting storylines:
-Penguins dominance considering all injuries. Similar situation to the CBJ but they have played better
-Washington Capitals return to dominance after getting rid of that Stanley Cup hangover. Not to mention the daily records Ovechkin has been breaking/setting. It is truly quite special to watch arguably the best goal scorer in NHL history on a nightly basis. (Yes - I recognize I am bias towards this).
-St. Louis Blues continued dominating record stretch for the Calendar year
-Tampa Bay's up and down season. Will this mid-season turmoil be just what they need to make a Stanley Cup run?
-Toronto is back in the conversation
-NYI and Barry Trotz outplaying expectations...again. Barry Trotz is the man.
-Edmonton Oilers playoff push. McDavid and Draisaitl leading the league in offensive stats
Dont get me wrong the CBJ storyline is really really cool but they dont have what it takes to win a stanley cup right now thus I dont believe its truly compelling more just exciting to watch. Story of the year should be reserved for serious contenders only. |

In all fairness the Penguins still had Crosby when the season started, as for the cbj , one could argue that the low standings was a slow start because no one had an idea of the measure of the team.
Story of the year should objectively be the Oilers , the rest you mentioned seems like generic narratives people would expect.

Never buy into what the losers in Toronto media are telling you about your own team. Especially at the beginning of the season, they have no clue. Of course Columbus would have to readjust losing the players they had. If anything is true it's that torts gets the most out of his club, and is good at training the players on hand to follow the system. Columbus was good before those guys showed up, and is good after they left. Plug and play. They have a seamless transition from players going from the AHL to the big club when needed. The surprise isn't Columbus, but they anyone would believe the loser Toronto media, especially the numbskulls on tsn or sportsnet. |

Torts for coach of the year and its not even close. Everyone including myself picked the Jackets nowhere near a playoff spot after losing the players they did and look at them. Amazing! |

Aside from O'Neil who clearly rips every other team but Toronto can do no wrong, TSN is drinkable. |
