On Lehner:

Back up the brinks truck for this guy. Were paying 2 goalies 11 million right now, so give him 7 x $8.5. (Is that enough??)

It's no coincidence that the D looks better, and its much easier to play knowing there is a stud tender in the crease. He also elevates the goalie tandem by being able to pick and choose opponents. This guy is the real deal and keeps us in every game.

Amped up for tonight's contest? Theatrical? Staged? If serious, it shows their intensity. They went right back in line next to each other to do drills. Much ado about nothing.

I don't know, don't they usually lay an egg the game before their long break?

Not sure what caused it (and beats aren't either), but here's the vid of the tail end and some tweets:

@MarkLazerus
Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith were just scrapping at the morning skate. Toews had Keith pinned down on the ice. and had most of his jersey off. Sheldon Brookbank broke them up. A few stick-taps from around the team and back to the usual morning skate. That was... interesting. It was hardly a violent affair, but it didn't look playful, either.

Rick, you are a genius - no wonder Gilbert was recalled - replacing Keith after he's traded to the Panthers.
- savvyone-1

Keith is such a thin skinned pr$ck.

Stanbo and JC got Johnny to do their dirty work in getting #2 to waive his NTC. All it took was #19 to skate past #2 in practice and tell him he thinks Gilbert and Gus are both better Dmen than him.

Wiz what do you think of K4 of late? Which of Kempny, Rutta, TVR, or Oesterle is the most comparable to K4?

- -Doh-

Here's the thing about Slater Koekkoek.

Junior players that start to stand out in the draft year tend to be viewed as on an upward climb, and get projected into potential first round status as upside prospects, who aren't there but, oh, man look it this - it is coming!

Where Tampa Bay was selecting #10 overall in whatever year, 2012?, I don't think it would be a stretch for me to say they were specifically looking to upgrade their defense position with that tenth overall...

(I am betting they had their eyes on Matt Dumba,or Jacob Trouba but they got taken.
There were a few highly ranked fowards ((Forsberg Tuevo, big Tom Wilson, Hertl...) that were off the board later, that they probably in retrospect would have been happy to have taken.)

So TB selected him based on decent size, good balance, feet, decision making, leadership skills and a possible emerging offensive side.

2 years after selecting him, he has incredible offensive numbers after getting traded to Windsor Spitfires. 15 goals, and almost a point a game...and it was looking like the Lightning had a real two-way guy and after seasoning in Syracuse two season on of which he was in the bigs for 30 games, but he could crack the kine-up had issues defensively and simply didn't get untracked as a strong player.

That isn't out of the ordinary, and as we have seen when the Hawks were log jammed, he wasn't able to stand out enough to solidify his minutes.

It just seems like there is jump to him now.

As far as trying to compare his game to those guys, I think he understands the defensive side as well as any of those aforementioned guys, but I think you have to view him as a player whose has to continue to come into his own in the NHL. The last stretch certainly has shown us an assertive side and less hesitation.
Maybe, just maybe, we sign him cheaply, get him through expansion and then he puts its together....

Yes. But they don't usually play Q the game before a break. The Panthers are going into a break too. Let's hope they crack some eggs and don't lay them.

Thanks Wiz. I agree. Let him play almost every game the rest of the year with Maatta. He is an RFA. If he plays well the rest of the year try to sign him at a reasonable (low) price for a couple of years. Then see how people like Beaudin, Mitchell, and others develop.

Man I wish we could get THAT Seabrook back. Forces Erat to rush and make a bad (and incredibly dumb) centering pass that Toews intercepted. When Toews peeled back, Seabrook was the outlet and put a shot on goal, when it was retrieved, a pass to Seabrook who make a perfect pass to Toews that Kaner put in the rebound.

Now now now, both of you go to your rooms and no TV tonight! And a 10 game suspension for each of you! .....On a serious note I like with the coach had to say, do you have boys? Do you have a brother? I got a brother? It happens big deal just a friendly scrap. It’s part of the game. Shows they are both fired up and wanna win. I love it.

Was at the morning skate today and watched Keith and Toews get into it. Toews took him down and the coaches stoped it right away but Keith’s jersey was pulled over him and he lost his helmet.
Later on Keith wiped out and did not look happy. He got his sticks and went off the ice while the others stayed.

My favorite 5-10 minutes of hockey sequence EVER!!!!

When Hossa took that 5 minute major it seemed all hope was gone. But....hold on....Kane the shortie with just seconds left and the goalie pulled....then kill the remainder of the major the first couple minutes of overtime.....and finish it with Hossa coming outta the box to set up in front and finish off the play (and the game) by burying the OT winner!!!

What a FANtastic series of events to turn that series...and eventually THE CUP!!!!

Those are the top two moments in my Hawks history, and I go back a long time. Worst moment, Lamaire scoring from the red line on Esposito. As far as tonight’s game, the Hawks #1 priority should be to stay out of the box, the Panther’s are at over 24% on the power play this year. Also look for Q to go at Gus, he knows better than this board where the weakness is in our defense, so Murphy better be ready to help out, as well as the LW on the ice. Go Hawks!

Yep. Go at Gus, and activate your dmen in the Ozone when Kane is on the ice. 2 men deep forecheck. Hold your blueline.

Yup. Loved the 17 seconds vs Boston too...but, maybe cuz I am old, and suffered through the Habs Lemaire killer on Espo...and decades of disappointment for 40 years more...that Nashville comeback, and how it set up ending the Cup-draught. It stands as my #1. The 17 seconds likely a close 2nd on my list. But, we had a Cup triumph before the 17 second episode. I truly did NOT think I would see a Cup in my lifetime. The 2010 Nashville comeback changed that feeling. I can't describe it really. But, that feeling of hope...no, not even hope cuz I always HOPED....that feeling of BELIEF that Nashville comeback gave me. It was a special feeling. I kinda felt then, a CUP was definitely possible with that 2010 team.

Can't really put in words what I am trying to say. But, it made this (I believe 45 or 46 year old, at the time) man believe Santa was real, the Easter Bunny thrived...and the Hawks were gonna WIN A CUP!!! It was special!

edit: I wrote HRichard (Pocket-Rocket) when I first posted...like I said...I amOLD. fixed!

Yup was sitting right under the Blackhawk Standby poster underneath In defense of TonyO, the fog on the ice was so thick, you could barely see center ice, let alone someone shooting the puck.
