When a Goalie leaves a Team after a good long run of solid Goaltending... and then the Replacement Goalie steps in and continues the solid Goaltending... one has to consider that maybe it is more a matter of a combination of the Team in front of him, the System played, and the Coaching... Was Bobrovsky's great play a byproduct of Columbus, or was Columbus's past Goaltending a byproduct of Bob?

It's the old heredity vs environment debate all over again.

Especially when you consider that Bobrovsky has had a terrible year in Florida. If they end up missing the playoffs, he may be the key reason for that.

Bob has always been a by-product. Look how awful he was in Philly. Columbus could make Garrett Sparks look like a stud.

Don't forget about Korpisalo as well... CBJ has a nice affordable tandem now.

Yes, the insignificant, no-talent CBJ that was supposed to be in contention for the #1 draft pick, and picked to be worse than the Devils, is not the story of the year. So where does that leave the Islanders who got all kinds of publicity after beating Pittsburgh last year as a threat in the East, has a marvelous coach, and, and, and...

Last time I checked the Islanders are 1 point ahead of the insignificant CBJ in the standings.

Oh yeah, they are 26-16-8, not 25-24, or 26-24.

The Pens are in 4th place in the NHL with 67 points. They have come from down 3-0 to win 3 times this season. They were without Malkin for the first 15 games and without Crosby for 28 games after that. Guentzel is done for the season. Letang has been injured a couple of times for multiple games. Dumoulin is out long term. Schultz is out long term. Rust was hurt for a couple of weeks. Hornqvist has missed the majority of the season. They have been playing their backup goalie for 75% of starts.

Not saying that this is the "story of the season", but a lot more impressive than Columbus hanging on to the 2nd wild card spot without Bobrovsky.
