I'd rather miss the playoffs by a female genitaliahair, keep Tatar and re-sign him at a (hopeful) discount than lose him, not replace his offense, and have another year of mediocrity. As I see it right now, unless we're guaranteed to get that #1 pick, we're (frank)ed if we throw in the towel and draft a few spots higher and get a prospect that may or may not work, and go into next season hoping we can replace the offense; or we're (frank)ed, draft a few spots lower, hope to sign some additional free agents to get better, and roll the dice with the devil we know.

Either way sucks tbh. Our drafting has been poor, and we can't count on MB to vastly improve via trade. It's frustrating as (frank), but it is what it is.

They won't be cup contenders anytime soon, might as well trade him and suck for a while.

agree with this 100%. it makes 0 sense to trade your leading scorer who has a year left on his deal if you're still gonna hang on to Price and Weber into next season. if they're not going to rebuild and they're not going to contend, i'd rather see them be on the higher end of mediocrity than the lower end.

Although that's fine and dandy for the right return, replacing his offense will be hard, unless there's a specific plan in mind... And no, hoping Cole Caulfield can step in and make an immediate impact isn't said plan. If it is, it's a stupid (frank)ing plan.

i think, 8 years into Bergevin's tenure, we can speculate with confidence that there is not

Anyway, what's the point of giving that bunch those picks, not like they ever hit homeruns.

So what happen? The thing is we might go in no mans lands. It would take a miracle to get in playoff or keep losing to have a top 3 selection.

There’s rumours about almost everyone right now, Tatar, Domi, Drouin, Lehkonen, Thompson, Kovalchuk, Weber, Price, Mete, Petry, Scandella.. eh!

We are such in a bad position, the injuries have lost us the season and even if they come all back, we’d have to pray other teams to lose to get us in.

I’ll be honest, on offense I’d keep the youngster and Tatar unless we have a hell of a return. I’m not sold on Domi, he’s a up and down player which lead us to either a good game or lose it. I’d see if we could land a decent return. On D, Romanov might come next year so is Scandella still an option? Maybe over Kulak/Mete. On the right, I’d trade either Petry or Weber but I wouldn’t keep both, I think Fleury could used 2nd pair plays and see if we could land a good 3rd pairing guy this summer.

Price won’t be trade.
Kovy/Thompson could land some picks.

Caulfield might replace Kovy next year and we have Gallagher / Armia on RW

Ideally, at least one winger has to go. When all the injured players come back, even if they trade Kovalchuk, they'll have a F lineup that looks like this:

Tatar - Danault - Gallagher
Drouin- Domi - Suzuki
Lehkonen - KK - Armia
Byron - Thompson - Cousins

Extras: Weal, Poehling

Byron on a 4th line doesn't really make sense IMO...His value has already gone way down, at least give him some ice time and good linemates to make it increase.

So you trade Thompson instead of Kovalchuk?

Drouin's return is delayed to some time in February and it will take him a few weeks to get back in game shape...just in time for golf season.
