Totally agree. Gallant would install the urgency that he insisted on to this lackluster system of softness. JC can be demoted back to Rockford. Current players that won't hustle for 60 minutes can be shipped out. This is the perfect coach to take underachievers and new youth to the next level in the future. As a STH I would be back on board with any changes he deems necessary.
Let's see what Rocky has in his gut about this team for the future.
Caviat.....if something about Gallant's character has caused his firing, then NIX
to the above.
Wow that's nuts. Brings them to the cup in first season. Loses to SJ to a phantom 5-minute major... out on the street 43 or so games later!!! |

I think you need either Lehner or Crow and Lankinen next year. Lehner maybe $7mil for several years (my preference would be 3 years, but you would probably have to go longer), but no MTC/NMC clauses. If you sign Lehner than Crow is gone. If you cannot sign Lehner than sign Crow for 1 year (2 years max). Some think he would sign for $3 mil. I think it would take substantially more. I would be ok with 1 year at $5mil +/-. - -Doh-
Does anyone remember Anton Forsberg? No? He was here the last couple of years. Tore it up in the AHL for a couple different teams and was lost in the NHL. Why does everyone think Lankinen will do anything different without seeing him in the NHL?
I also find it funny that people completely dismiss Delia now. He was 6-4-3 with a .908 save percentage on the disaster we watched last year. He also had a bunch going on in his personal life to start this year, and now is playing much better (and oh yeah, he is actually signed to an NHL deal). |

Similar to his firing in Florida, where the team is playing middling after a great year or 2. In Florida it was differences in mgmt, could it be the same case here? - LAHawk
I saw somewhere that there were rumors in Vegas that the players had gotten VERY complacent once they received their long term contracts and the underdog mentality died out on them. |

It depends on when the plan calls for them to contend. If next year, they need a top six wing, two defensemen, and a goalie. If down the road is the goal, they don't need a stud goalie now or depth at forward; they just need to develop the kids they have and add more kids. - mohel
The plan will be to try and win now and will continue to be until Kane, Toews, and Keith are all long gone |

No one has any idea how Gallant would fare with our team. He came into a situation with a bunch of 2/3 line players who all believed they had something to prove and most were relatively young. They also got insane goaltending from MAF if you watched the games.

Could be, they went from an expansion team phenomenon to a veteran laden star team (Pacioretty, Stone, Stasny) pretty quickly. - LAHawk
That amazes me. They were set up so well, and they started taking on a bunch of high dollar contracts. |

I agree you need one of Lehner or Crow back no matter what. Lehner would obviously be preferred as he's a Top 10 Goalie in the league right now. However, we've debated in the past if having a top level Goalie is really what you need to win in this league. We won with Niemi, Huet, etc. as our Goalies. Now granted, we have three ELITE Defensemen in Keith, Seabrook, and Hammer in front of them.
If we pay Lehner, we're going to struggle to put pieces in front of him. If we don't, we could add more depth to the roster, but then we'd have to count on two of these three things: 1.) Crow re-signs and stays healthy 2.) They sign someone cheap in FA that can be a legit starter 3.) Lankinen or Delia comes up and is a LEGIT NHL Goalie.
Gonna be tough to figure out. |

Good points.
You can point to Forsberg. A counterpoint would be Darling (at least his time with the Hawks).
Personally I would like to see Lankinen in several games in the NHL this season. I feel his style is more orthodox than Delia. You probably want to go to camp with a veteran #1 goalie (Lehner or Crow) and then you can let Lankinen and Delia compete for the spot. The #1 would play 55 games +/-, The backup 15+/-. Also Lankinen is an RFA and needs to be signed. |

The reason people think Lankinen can be a legit NHL Goalie is because of the showing he put out during the IIHF World Championships shutting down good teams with legit NHL players on them and he's continued to play exceptionally well against even worse competition.
The reason most dismiss him is because of how he looked exposed last year with the team (I tend to blame the poor defense more so than his play; though he has flaws in his game) and he started this year off so poor (for anyone who didn't know he was dealing with personal issues during that time), but since then has continued to play very well for Rockford. I still think he has a future in the NHL as at least a backup. |

The way the team is set up now the Hawks better have a good goalie. The overall team defensive statistics might be getting better, but that is also attributable to getting better goaltending this year. Just look at Lehner's PK save percentage, if the team had last years save %, or Crow's, they would be 28th again as opposed to 10th. The Hawks top 6 forwards are not necessarily known as 2 way either (Kane, ADB, Strome) |

Seems to be the norm now in pro sports - with the firing of Cora yesterday (yeah, for reasons other than team performance there and in Houston), I think that is 10 new managers in MLB - 1/3 of the league. |

Delia signed a 3 year deal last year. Unless the hawks trade him, I would suspect he is the future goalie of the blackhawks. |

They signed him for $1 mil. per year, his cap hit can be fully buried. Also, the Hawks especially at the time of the signing were also light in organizational depth at goalie. I think the hope is that Gravel would become the #1 goalie. |

Overly patient. Giving him an unjustified amount of ice time.
He doesn't get much ice time because he sucks. Looks like he doesn't want to get caught behind in transition to defense. |

Delia at the beginning of the year (even before his slow start), is not even rated in the top 50 of goalie prospects playing in the AHL.

Carolina Panthers just signed a college coach with no NFL head coaching experience, maybe no NFL experience at all? to $9m a year over keeping Rivera. Reason it takes that much is college coaches make more than pro coaches and for a longer period of time. |
