Well, one of them is not going to happen...

Blackhawks recall Brandon Hagel, put Dylan Strome on IR.

- Chunk

Interesting. Has Strome had a setback? Or do they just want to look at Hagel instead of 92 or 95.

Again not saying Crow is his 2015 self. But reading too much into the numbers with the team that has played in front of him is a stretch. Lehner's numbers are better and even in the eye test he has been better this year. But Crow has started 23 only games and Lehner only 25. That is a very small sample size.

Last year Crow's goals against was the best on the team by far (Crow 2.93GAA, Delia 3.61, Ward 3.67), again with a horrible defense in front of him.

Crow may be finished. But maybe not.

- -Doh-

I don't think Crow if finished, but with his injury history and age, how can you make a long term commitment to him at a #1 goalie salary?

You don't. If you cannot sign Lehner than you turn to Crow and offer him 1 year at $5 mil to $6 mil with not NMC or NTC. And you do not even do that until you see if he makes it through the rest of this season without missing a game because of concussion symptoms. And further provided he plays very well the rest of the year. So a lot of conditions have to be met first.

Sounds like Crow is looking for more than 1 year.

Probably just to make numbers work. He's only on IR and retroactive to Jan 7, so I believe he can be recalled at any time.

AEL, how would a fourth line of Highmore, Hagel, Caggiula look?
- LAHawk

Good potential to be quite effective in the longer run if not some dividends now. Speed, agitation, strong play in all zones, finishing ability, fearlessness. None are big players but have a lot of fight in them.

Career save % .917 - Last 2 years .908
Career GAA 2.45 - Last 2 years 2.96

So, unless you’ve mastered the ability to turn back time, or figured out how he can play 50+ games a year in The Bell Centre, peak Crawford is in the rear view mirror. Plus, he’s being outplayed by his co-goalie.

- scottak

true...but he has had at least 5-6 games where he has been spectacular even in losing

Sounds perfect! Which means he'll sit on the bench Toronto or Winnipeg over the weekend and play against Florida next week and then get sent down

Was Krebs the guy that got injured toward the end of last season where it may have caused him to fall a bit in the draft?
- EbonyRaptor

Yes, partially torn Achilles what did the Rocket in, when surgeons and athlete rehab weren't around...It would be an inpatient move by Vegas, but they need a puck carrying attacker.

And teams can ASK for Krebs, that doesn't mean they are trading him...but look at their past actions, they have traded SO many of those drafted players to be so good right away.

I just don't understand why the coach's success going to the Cup Final does him in so soon after with a Cup final and a third year team...

I stand corrected on Krebs' current team: Kootenay moved to Winnipeg this season so it's the same team (Ice) just a new home.

How many shifts does Hagel get before we determine his NHL chances?

I may give him 3.

If Vegas were offering Krebs for Gus, I would have bought him a first class ticket to a Vegas. (If I could afford it )

Can the Hawks make a smaller move to acquire a third line center? For example:

To CHI: Derrick Brassard

To NYI: Dylan Sikura and a pick

This frees up some further cap space for the islanders to tool up at the deadline. Plus they have the pick they could use in a further deal

- nickmo2699

Brassard is reportedly close to hanging up on a career, very delicate if he suffers another concussion. There was talk he might not have much interest around the league this season. I think that the NYI feel like his skill set is a bargain for an extra offensive forward role. Perhaps he is not quite the top level skill version he once was, but still descent. Perhaps comparable to Spezza value on the Maple Leafs. I bet some bloggers who regular watch NHL games could probably concur.
Therefore obviously Strome is much less a concussed player and obviously plays more top minutes than Brassard

An optimist, huh?

I figured it would be decided by his lead foot when he stepped onto the ice.

Tyler in your opinion does saad crawford and gust get traded at the TDL? if so to what teams make the most sense for each of these players and what would be the return? Maybe this could be a future blog you write.
- Scott1977

Good to have a probing mind on the possibilities of player movement. I know GM"s try to have a crystal ball type mentality wherin they revisit an idea or an actual conversation they had. You are right in this is a future topic we can expect to see a blog regarding specific transactions. Right now it is too early though and we would just be spitballing.

I predict Knights and Preds play their way in. Canucks and either the Flames or Oilers play their way out. Sorry Hawk fans.

On paper and looking at the math what their record needs to be to get into the 90's can't disagree.

Yep, Krebs was that prospect who dropped from upper top 10 to the teens. Taken 17th but was as high as 4th or 5th on some draft board predictions.

If the trade is Gustafsson for Krebs straight up, then you say yes as fast as possible and don't wait for the ink to dry.

But if there's a Gustafsson+ then it depends on what the + is.

Krebs plays center as his primary position but can also play LW. After 3 years with Kootenay, he's now on Winnipeg with Teply so the Hawks have plenty of opportunity to see Krebs in action while observing one of their own.

He's rated higher than Caufield.
