Tyler Cameron: Toews earning that $10.5M contract
Captain Serious earned his paycheck on Tuesday night with the GWG, 2 assists and a +3. This was also his 3rd straight multi-point game. Impressive stuff from #19.

I was glad that the NBC Chicago post-game brought out the fact that Toews' 12 OT goals are the most in the NHL since 2015-16. It felt like déjà vu when Toews scored that OT goal and was curious as to how many he's had since 3-on-3 came into the league (thanks for researching for me NBC).

The Hawks take on Montreal on Wednesday and here are a few things I'd like to see:

Turned it on in time to see the OT goal.
WTF is Colliton doing, though, playing Gus at all?
Saw replays of the opening Ott goals - talk about a team not ready to play from opening drop of the puck.

And I know he's got quite a few haters on this board, but CooCoo has looked pretty good (all things considered) now that he's finally gotten a few games in a row. I'd like to see him stay in the lineup and find out if getting regular shifts will help with his timing. He certainly isn't afraid to use the body and arguably (to my eyes anyway) has the best speed of our current D.

The Drake has had, what, 207 concussions? And the team waited a few extra games to put him in? They're developing lavender sniffers, ffs.......

Well said Tyler.

But at $10.5 mil Toews should score and be a plus 3 every game. lol
Kube, your table is ready.
Caggiula does a lot of good things, and his high motor really shows.
Serious questions about Colliton defensive scheme, lineup decisions and game management.

I still think the Hawks are lottery bound, but if they can trade Gus and Saad and Strome come back soon the games could still be interesting.

Kube, Toews, Kane
ADB, Strome/Dach
Saad, Kampf, Highmore
Caggiula, Carp, Nylander/Smith

Keith, Boqvist
Murphy, Maatta
Gilbert, K4 (yikes - maybe they get a 3rd pairing dman for Gus)

Lehner
Crow
(I would like to see Lankinen play a few games before year end)

With deHaan and Mitchell likely to be in the top 4 dmen next year, Maatta, Seabs as a bottom pairing is ok.

Agree on K4. I watched the Yotes last night. Oesterle is playing on the bottom pair. K4 reminds me of him. Maybe Oesterle is more offensive and K4 is more defensive. But K4 is not noticeably awful like Gus. I like K4 much better than Gilbert.

Kubalik was drafted way back in 2013 in the 7th round. Finally entered the league in 2019, at 24. Given up on by the team that drafted him. I'd guess some Kings fans wonder why they gave up on him - the guy is the leading rookie goal scorer; on a crap team, no less.

In other news....I've seen enough of this 21 year old Nylander kid, let's dump him.

Tyler, you are going to upset the Nylander fan club with your comments about him today. I don't know how he gets a free pass when he is even worse than Gus. When I watch this guy, I see Runblad II. I do not care how much talent he has if he cannot translate it into effective play. You could put a figure skater out there too who would look really good, but could he play?
I love this Highmore kid and can see him developing into a nice bottom 6'er for us. If you could put his heart into Nylander, you could have something.

Scott Powers is arguing for Kane-Toews-Kube and stick with it. I agree. Kane with grinders or AHL guys is really not good.

When saad/strome return...you match them with ADB...or you spot saad on a 3rd line...

regarding nylander...the team is being BEYOND patient with him. The implications of Nylander not fitting in on this team will fall on Bowman's shoulder. That is my guess as to why the coaching is stubbornly keeping him in the top 6.

I'm trying to avoid being overly judgemental for a developing coach but wowzer. Definitely some interesting decisions this year.

What I'd like to see tonight in Montreal with Strome and Saad still out;

Kubalk - Toews - Kane
Debrincat - Carpenter - Dach
Caggiula - Kampf - Nylander
Sikura - Smith - Highmore

Burr, Jammer and Sharpie said it best last night...this team does not have the depth to spread out among 4 lines.

Why not load up your top 2 lines and have your bottom 6 plays a simple game just to keep you in it. The bottom 6 have been great at filling that role all year?

Overcoaching here?

No kidding. During a stoppage last night, there was a shot of Kane on the bench after he got off. He had his poopy face on and he was mumbling something like " I can't believe this crap".

Can't figure it out by 21? Dump him!

I don't know if he will develop further. Neither do you.

If they dump him, and he develops into a decent 24 year old top six wing, will you come on here and roast Stan for giving up on him?

Overly patient. Giving him an unjustified amount of ice time.

I would say they're being overly patient with Debrincat too. Although he has proven to be a much better player even in a down year.

They're trying to get Kane to waive his NTC.

I thought I saw some bad posturing on the ice from Kane last nite - after it became obvious that Kubelik had "scored" on the first goal, not him, and after Toews maintained the puck and scored instead of passing off to him in the OT.

But - maybe I'm just reading way too much into limited TV shots.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar....

Didn't they recently sit Nylander three straight games? What stud are they holding back by playing Nylander?

It would honestly explain a lot.

Another theory is that they're avoiding large goal totals for youngsters to prevent a panarin situation. Although, it appears too late for Kubalik.

Look at what happened last year with debrincat...he scored 40 goals playing with Kane. Debrincat is not a 40 goal scorer without Kane.

Not too mention, the Hawks played a run and gun style of hockey. They loosened up on the backend, in order to out score the opponent.

We saw inflated goal totals from Toews as well last year.

I do not like what I'm seeing from debrincat this year...his inability to score tight checking greasy goals is going to be big problem come playoffs.

Have we forgotten how Panarin and Kane played in the playoffs? That line was shut down. You can not play like the Harlem Globetrotters in the playoffs.

Without space and time, he's proven to be ineffective.

Seems like Strome, ADB have chemistry with each other, and not much with anyone less. Strome before his injury started heating up when put back with ADB, before then, not so much.

I would like the Hawks to keep playing Nylander the rest of year with the occasional press box pass. Then see if he would stay in Chicago to train with Kane and his crew over the summer. Sometimes you make more strides in the off season than during the season.

Also dumping him would be Bowman would have to admit to an epic fail. So I find that unlikely.

Keeping things in context - the win came against Ottawa and it took OT to get it done. The old saying that you should beat the teams you're supposed to really doesn't apply to the Hawks because they're not consistently good enough to "suppose to" win against any team - but they got the 2 points and we move on.

I would say Boqvist is playing better defensively that I expected - especially when it comes to getting engaged physically - but he still gets lost out there too often so hopefully that's an area he can make improvements in. I think he's still playing cautious regarding jumping into the offense but more game time should loosen that up eventually.

The biggest improvement I see with Dach since the early part of the season is that he's learned to not put himself in position to get pasted as often as he was earlier in the season. I'm very impressed with his overall game even though the scoring isn't happening for him right now. He wasn't my choice with the #3 pick but I'm really pleased Stan didn't listen to me.

Agreed. Imo, they should use whatever tools available to develop the kid. He's 21. Maybe he'll be a bust, but too soon to quit.

My take on ADB was last year his game focused on finding open space in the offensive zone and setting up for his shot. Then he spent the summer with Kane's group and developed more playmaking skills. So this year he is bringing the puck up ice, handling the puck more, trying to distribute more. He still has a long way to go in those areas and that took him away from his strength, finding open ice, and utilizing his ability to shoot accurately and elevate the puck. Also the opposing teams are really paying attention to him this year, especially on the PP.

He is still 22. I can see him being a pretty steady 30 goals 35 assist player. Is $6.4 mil about right for the production? Probably not too far off in this day and age.
