How bout a package that brings Martinez and Toffoli to the Hawks. What would that take? I like Toffoli. Kid plays hard, has a 200 foot game and can score.
- z1990z

Lot of mileage on him already kid has always played relentless. Haven't seen him for a while but if he's anything like his playoff years going to be big bucks. He reminds me of Datsyuk but not quite that good.

He hasn't fixed Florida's defense. The reason the Panthers are in contention for a playoff/wildcard spot is they are outscoring their opponents (Huberdeau having a career year, 61 points in 45 games).

I feel like their goaltending has been off more nights then their d being bad

Depends if they keep escrow in the new collective bargaining agreement. Looks like the first quarter was 14.5%, so the real salary cap is 14.5% less (the amount the players actually get paid so that the salary/owners % of revenue is 50/50). Could you imagine if the actual salary cap was $70 million, which is effectively what the players are being paid out?
- LAHawk

Players should strike over getting escrow and $C out of contract. They have all the risk owners are protected. In business, both sides normally split exchange risk. And there are far more US teams let Canada go start their own league if they don't like it the US market wouldn't care. Only teams with history are Montreal and Toronto and how often are they both in the playoffs? Owners in Canada could hedge their $C risk and probably do laughing winning both ways.

Q would have this group in the playoffs too.

Mainly because they both play a boring trappy game that would suit the slow defenders better then the idiocy JC implements. And both can get big point totals out of skilled players while doing that.

Combine a tight D scheme with the outstanding goalies and Patrick Kane doing his thing they win way more close games.

- fattybeef

Why did Q's team miss the playoffs in '17-'18? Was that roster better than this one?

Powers over at the Athletic speculating on Lehner's next contract. Says teams won't offer a top tier contract of 9.5M to 11M for a goalie this off season. Says Lehner may be askng for 7-8M, but league sources says he is worth 6-7M.

if 6-7...then the hawks need to make that deal: 4 years and bonus laden it

Last couple of years very down years. supposed to be a sniper, scored 13 goals all last year, 12 so far this year. Also hasn't been playing that 200 foot game since Sutter left as coach.

Sounds like a "pass." Unlike Saad he gave the Kings discounts now it will cost him.

hardly...there are no shootouts in the playoffs and shoots outs are not as common they used to be...yes they can have an impact for playoff position...

but i doubt his shoot out woes can be figured into his contract worth...

i think the bigger issue is his long term health...bipolar is a very difficult psychiatric disorder...yes it can be controlled medically...but individuals can still break through with bipolar episodes and have side effect reactions to the meds...

Zack Smith on scratches early in season: "At the time, I was pretty frustrated and didn't agree with it personally. But looking back, I wasn't playing as well as I could and wasn't taking advantage of what got me here. Now I can...see maybe that was the right decision."

Should have spread the love (of scratches) around more equitably. Might have had a good effect on other vets and kickstarted them earlier this year..

4th worst goals against, middle of the pack shots against, do not know high danger chances etc. Not exactly shut down type numbers.

Supposedly Boston wants him, actually would be a perfect rental for them, like Johanson was last year.

Asking price for Alec Martinez is a second and a prospect, that probably sets the defense market for the TDL.
- LAHawk

BTW how would you rate the performance ok Special K Koekkoek the past few games he has managed to remain in the lineup. Emphasis grading on the past few games he has played noteworthy insofar as he was not a healthy scratch

Corey Crawford said he plans to sign another contract when his current one ends this summer (aka not retiring), that he hasn't talked to Stan Bowman yet, and he seemed largely uninterested in signing into a backup role (in Chicago or otherwise).

On being a backup: "I'm a pretty competitive guy, feel like I could still make a difference on a team, to make a run at a championship. That's where my head's at. Never really had a role of sitting on the bench and being part of that situation. So I don't know."

On Hawks: "I would still love to have a chance here to win another Cup. We have a really good young group of players, and guys get to the next level pretty quick, I find. Once you get over that learning curve, I think we could be competitive quickly."

=====
Sounds like another player not willing to accept the realties of the impact that aging and injuries have had on his performance. Human nature, but sad to see all the same, as I fear he may be disappointed in his options.

this is not surprising...i have stated many times crow is intensely proud and competitive guy...if he thinks he can still play and medical staff has cleared him then he should play and if necessary go somewhere else as the number 1 guy...

its not up to any of us tell him or anyone else what the "realities" to accept...and you have no idea what options maybe available to him after the season...hell he could play lights out the rest of the year...

Kind of like Brian Urlacher. Not in reality on Blackhawks either.

and I'll be happy as a clam for him and for the Hawks if that turns out to be true and for him if he is presented with multiple, high-dollar, decent term offers

I don't usually take Ek's info too seriously, but if DeAngelo for NYR is even remotely available, Stan better be on the phone asking what the price is.

I thought the last couple of games he played well, much more assertive, and no hesitation when the puck was on his stick.

I see in Puckpedia and cap friendly that his contract ends at end of this year and is a UFA, Martinez has a year left at $4 mil.
