Tyler Cameron: Now we're up again! The Hawks came out and played themselves a solid game vs. the Ducks on Saturday.

The result was a 4-2 win led by a 2-goal performance by NHL leading goal scorer Dominik Kubalik, as well as a solid effort by Lehner.

Here is what the Hawks are staring at as we near the All-Star Game, Trade Deadline and a busy February for the Blackhawks:

my recommendation would be to sell, sell, sell. Well, I don't know how much "selling" they can actually do, but there are some pieces there to move. - TC

Mine too. I do think it's good that a lot of guys who figure to be part of the future are playing (Dach and Boqvist mostly), though I'm also hoping to see Mitchell at some point.

If they appear to be out and do sell off pieces and can get anything for Gus, Crow, Maata and Smith I say go for it.

If Lehner hints he's looking for Bobro money, keep Crow and trade him instead.

I like Saad but if a team blows you away with an offer of multiple picks and a good prospect, including a 1st, I think they need to listen.

I get the feeling though the team will continue on the current path and they'll stand pat.

Going 10-4-2 gets them to +6 to NHL-.500 with 20 games left.

Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Vegas are at +6 now, with Nashville at +5. If we assume that at least 3 of the 4 would play .500 hockey into the TDL, that would put the Hawks in the middle of it. Each has been around .500 for the last 10 games.

So - the Hawks have to play much better than they’ve shown, and the opposoition would have to continue their mediocrity.

Possible for each outcome - not likely, I fear.

Sellers by the TDL.

Long time lurker. Hawks fan since the 70's. As a 54 year old have enjoyed this as best run in my lifetime and I'm proud to be a Hawks fan. Think it's time to sell though. Think Rocky needs to pick a lane. If he wants to win, let Stan do his job and make McD market a team that is truly rebuilding. Not taking anything away from the marketing genius, but how hard has it been to market the Hawks for last decade. If it's about filling the stands at all costs, I'm not sure Stan can rebuild properly. Cant be told that you have to keep certain players because they draw fans. Have to be able to make hockey based decisions. If Hawks stand pat I really believe it it says Stans hands are being tied by the higher ups. Still giving Stan B. the benefit of the doubt. Every trade should be explored. Every player except 88 on the table. Only because I don't think you can win that trade. That being said, I have no problem if they clean house. As long as new gm has authority to make ALL hockey decisions. Be more Patriot like. Thanks for your service but we have to move on etc.. . Love the passion on this board, keep it up everyone.

Hey Run, don't really disagree except for 88 not being on the table. Of the remaining four Core players, he and Keith (to me) are the only ones you could trade and get value for.

I like Toews but think he can't be traded due to his deal. While you wouldn't win a Kane deal, if someone threw the kitchen sink at you, you'd have to consider it...multiple 1st round picks, high end prospects.

I don't know that Stan's being told he has to keep certain players, I just don't see much likelihood of any Core players being dealt for a number of reasons, with their contracts and NMC's being the biggest.

I do think the rebuild has begun, but I don't think they will be spenders in FA til the end of 2, 19 and 88's deals. My guess is Keith retires at the end of his and if 19 and 88 are still productive and want to be part another run (if it appears to be in the cards), would either or both take uber team friendly deals to be part of it?

Idk...long time between now and then.

Happy Monday Tyler and fellow hawks fans. Chicago has dug themselves a hole so deep that even God himself can not save this team.

It sounds like saad is close to returning I read he was on the ice the other day skating.

Just curious what everyone's thoughts , opinions are regarding the chatter coming out of Boston. Stan seems to be looking to trade saad for Moore?

I'm not seeing the benefit or the rationale behind such a move.

Imo Chicago should make some moves but not short term moves either. They should look to move out players who can bring value back either high draft picks , young high end prospects or young promising pieces.

Agree 100% on 88. No problem trading him as well if they blow your doors off. Better get a haul though.

I did not get too excited about the win against Anaheim. Anaheim is just not a good team anymore.
Let's see what they do on this road trip. Our direction may be more clear after that.

Hello Lottery

I do not expect Stan to do much by the TDL. I would like him to move Gus. It would be a coup to move Smith. I hope he keeps Carpenter (unless the return is exceptional). They could move Crow or Lehner depending on new contract talks. Maatta could be interesting to a contender that needs defense for a mid-round pick. Caggiula may have some value as a rental gamble even with the concussion history. (late round pick). Sikura may need a change of scenery in exchange for another player that needs a change of scenery. Other than that I believe we will be pretty quiet.

Whenever he decides he wants to sign a contract and turn pro.

Theoretically he could do that now if he wanted to.

Realistically at the end of his schools season which could extend into the frozen 4 tourney whenever that is.

I think Mitchell plays for the Hawks right away if signed. I think it will be part of the agreement to get him to sign with the Hawks. Do not know if he is NHL ready, but he will see time in Chicago at the end of the year if he signs.

After Denver's hockey schedule is finished. Denver is one of the top college programs so they'll be invited to the NCAA playoffs and if they reach the Frozen Four, their schedule could extend to Aoril 11, by which time the Hawk season will be over unless they make the playoffs.

If the Hawks go into a nose dive over the upcoming weeks and become sellers who will become trade candidates and what are they worth?

Gus - people are dreaming if they think he can fetch a 1st round pick. I see a 3rd in return.

Smith - some teams may want him for 4th line grit and PK, but Hawks would have to retain salary and probably get another 3rd or 4th.

Lehner has value to a playoff contender who is not confident with their goalie situation. I mentioned Carolina recently as a destination, but they had 2 shutouts over the weekend. Arizona currently has injuries to Raanta and Kuemper. Could return a pick and prospect if he has no intentions of re-upping with the Hawks before the TDL.

Saad - Most attractive piece if he returns to form after his injury. Another pick and prospect?

Maata - Many teams would want a depth D with playoff experience. Maybe a 2nd rounder?

11 of the next 16 on the road...hmm..i think they play a simpler more straight forward game on the road...but to pull off a point streak with this schedule, injuries and defensive issues that show very little evidence of turning around...at best they end up with getting 18-20 of the next 32 pts, most likely 16 or less...

i am on the sign lehner bandwagon...but i am not sure hawks can cap afford an 8 mil goalie for 4-6 years...

Pretty good analysis. I do not see Hawks Front Office making these trades unless they get a prospect who is NHL ready right now.

I don't think they're willing to subtract unless they get someone to put back into the lineup. With the D paper thin right now, I can't imagine the Hawks trading a D man unless they get someone in return or from another trade.

I like Lehner but I would have his new contract end the same year as Toews, Kane, Keith, and AD (Summer of 2023). At that time they can see where they are at. Seabs would only have one more year at that point. If Lehner wants a longer term or too much money then I would let Lehner walk, sign Crow for a year or two at about $6 mil, and break in Lankinen to see if he can takeover for Crow in a year or two.

Yes you're correct about Hawks getting bodies back. Most trade partners are up against the cap and have to ship salary back with any acquisition.
