Per Ben Pope:

RobinLehner talked about contract extension possibility, saying he wants to stay with Blackhawks but that the market is promising this summer and he's not willing to take another discount.

- Chunk

If this is accurate and I'm the 'Hawks GM, I'd negotiate with him now for a new contract for two weeks. If no signing, trade him.

Do you realize that you (and most of us posters) are VERY different than 95% of the fans?

In a good way or bad way?

Explain.....

And I don't think many fans are that different......most fans I speak to and know are fed up with 19.....and wouldn't be against trading him. same with even 2 who realize that he has value.

IMO....the hawks have 2 choices on how to get back to a legit playoff team and move into contention move....

1. They keep this half @ss approach of adding veterans to their aging core and as they can find a core to...wink/wink....go away or go to Seattle, they replace him with somebody longer into their core. IMO...this approach will take a lot longer.

2. You make some bold moves that get you back young pieces that can be the next wave of core players.

IMO....I think 88 is going to get to the point of being tired of losing and ask to be dealt long before 19. 88 is still at the top of his game and probably wants to win....can we say the same about 19 being at the top of his game?

So again....they just need to pick a damn lane. They tried to patch things along for the last 3 years and each year it results in the season being over a lot sooner then the previous year.

Now I just hope they lose a ton so they can get a lottery pick and hopefully another decade long building block at F or G

why did it take 19 to FINALLY move his @ss and start playing like he should when if he did earlier this season....hell they may be sniffing a playoff spot.

Yet, the apologists claimed his back was jacked up, or whatever cute excuse they could find......and that's the captain. A guy who is looked to and SHOULD BE busting his @ss 110% of every shift and set the example.

Heard from the locker room janitor that Toews custom fitted Bauer skates didn't arrive until December, held up at the border because the driver didn't have a REAL ID license. Really surprised Foley wasn't repping that excuse for the past month.

Same here ... I'd move him. It is what it is .... a guy on a 1 year deal.

'What risk, I was ... last year and am ... this season?'

The risk involved was directing that money to a temporary resource that could have been used elsewhere for a greater long term impact.

Goalie wins on a team that isn't really getting any traction elsewhere, are a wasted effort in the sense of it is an artificial hit ... like eating candy bars as a meal. Kind of pointless.

Moving Lehner and holding on to Crawford, would be insane. I think Lehner has had his fill of this ongoing ineptness, without resolution. I would not blame him for one second, if he opted for greener pastures elsewhere.

I like Lehner and think hes a fantastic goalie but I agree.

its a waste of money to dump that into him with a team that isn't close to winning. Guy will lose his mind, break down by the time they are ready to win 2-3 more years from now.

Deal him. Deal CC too. Deal Saad, Maata, and launch Gus and Smith into the sun.

I don't either -- I was commenting on it from an asset management business perspective.

I also don't expect to get all that much of a return as it sounds like am 'Available Soon' sign --- I guess sort of like what the Cubs did with Gene Michael in (I think) 1987 .... near the end of the season he gets interviewed -says he 'isn't sure he is going to be with the team next season' --the Cubs were even competitive in the division at that point ... Dallas Greene moves him out .... they put in Frank Luchesi -and then go on to win at about a .243 winning percentage the rest of that season and end up in last place.

This isn't about tanking, as much as it is about moving that type of distraction out -in favour of building.

Lehner sez no to that. Bob got $10M. Lehner is proving that his last year on the Island was not a fluke or because of Trotz.
- mohel

Two problems, who that needs a goalie can pay that? And every $10m goalie has been a mistake.

My guess is Crow and someone else (some cheaper FA). I think/hope they learned from the year Crow went down you can't leave it up to guys that are completely green.
- Chunk

I'm expecting Crow to take the Cam Ward route. I think he's done after this year.

Unless your Forwards and Defenseman are good enough to compete in the playoffs, it is a complete waste to have an elite goaltender. You're wasting salary that could be spent better elsewhere.

Look no further that this year's goaltending situation. There is no reason to spend 11 million in goaltending with a C+ roster.

I understand Crawford was unreliable yaddya yaddya yaddya. However, you have Delia and Lankinen that could've used those games to develop if Corey went down again.

Lehner took a risk signing here and we made him look silly.

- catrisc

$7-8 is not an elite goaltender.

Top 10 FA goalies

1. Braden Holtby
2. Corey Crawford
3. Lard Ass
4. Craig Anderson
5. Jimmy Howard
6. Matt Murray
7. Jacob Markström
8. Thomas Greiss
9. Cam Talbot
10. Jaroslav Halák

Lehner is much better than Crawford this year I don't want to hear 5 on 5 BS because games are not played only 5 on 5. That's the dumbest stat I've ever heard. Who cares if you're great 5 on 5 when you give up a goal every power play.

nice...over reaction and factually false...he doesn't "give up a goal every pp"...and yeah 5v5 is important...and the pk has been a great strength the last 6 weeks

crow/lehner could not keep up 92-94% save%...they have regressed the last month...
what hasn't changed is the lousy defense and pss poor 5v5 by his mates; given that unfortunate combo the hawks are 2nd in the league in GA over the last month with 50 despite an improved pk

Can we PLEASE have #2 sit upstairs for a game or two so we don't have to see him cough up the puck around the Hawks net, leave an opposing player wide open to score, miss the net or have his shot blocked EVERY time or cross over the wrong way on a 2 on 1 so the puck carrier has so much room that he can waltz in and deke out our goalie for the score , etc. Never, ever seen such an overrated player.

I want a gut rehab, but will never get it because the organization is too scared that Johnny t shirt jersey wont show up and they'll drop down to 10k fans again...something Im sure McDonough and his never ending 1 goal campaign even can't survive....

so id like to see some sort of effort......I can take effort and losses. At least they tried but they are lacking the personnel.

What I saw last night was a quit....they had zero interest.....for a large portion of the game....and that's why I am hell bent and would beg Stan if I ever spoke to him to launch some of these veterans....

I hate the talk....talk, talk, talk.....that's all these veterans do...cliché after cliché after cliché and that's why Lehner is so refreshing.

- SteveRain

As diehard fans, we mostly enjoy what Lehner has to say. The brass may view him entirely different. May have lost a few brownie points with the bigwigs stating he wasn't into playing at a discount rate. I can't ever recall a Blackhawk player speaking his mind, that remained with the club for an extended time period.

That's actually sort of my point -- in that goalies' performance aside, this is a team with a ton of issues that the goalies are masking. That probably isn't a long term solution (aside from both goalies being UFA at the end of the season).
