Hopefully that's so they can trade him. I would let him walk before I went over $3.3 he may not be tradable at $4.0? - rpeters01
Naw it would be because Stan (somehow/blindly) thinks that Gus is a Defensemen and wants insurance should de Haan and/or Seabrook not be able to return. They'd be better off trading him for a draft pick and calling it a day. If he turns out and is servicable for a team like Kempny has been then so be it (though Kempny can actually play defense so there's a difference).
I think Gus goes the Phillip Holm route and is playing overseas next year. - LAHawk
I'd be really surprised if he does that. He's one year off of his career year getting 60 points. Some NHL GM will think they can re-unlock it OR can mask his defensive issues with better players around him to allow him to score points for his team |

I'll say it again - last year was not just a career year - it was an outlier - Sweden, Rockford, Chicago - he never had a season approaching it in terms of goals / assists / points. |

I don't disagree with you, but there will be a GM that believes he can reproduce those numbers. I would put money on it. We've seen it time and time again that guys have a career or outlier year and get paid in FA the next year and the teams are stuck for making a stupid move. It's gonna happen with Gus too. Just hope and pray Stan does not do that with him. |

a lot of context and background to this trade...this was not a "hockey" trade
gretsky was going to be free agent, the oiler owner was cash strapped and gretsky wanted and oked the trade...
as gretsky said he wasn't traded but sold...

if kane want's to go somewhere else i have no doubt the hawks will accomodate...other than that scenario i don't see him playing anywhere else... - bogiedoc
Plus, Wayne’s wife, Janet Jones, is an actress. There is a slightly bigger entertainment industry in LA than in Edmonton. If I remember correctly, meant Edmontonians blamed Janet for the trade.
Fun fact, Wayne & Janet are the parents-in-laws of PGA golfer Dustin Johnson, who married their eldest daughter Paulina. Wayne annually play in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am with Dustin. |

Anybody get all the latest on this kid from Detroit Andreas Anatheseau or however you spell it, was Bowman looking at him, I thought he looked good last year I don’t know what happened this year I would not mind seeing Bowman try to poach him from the Red Wings. Or does he have a soft as poop mentality like Alex Nylander, By that I mean competing hard every shift and not taking a shift off. - wonthecup10
He is an offensive very fast skater. That is his calling card. He is not a boards guy. Lots if players can have moderate success as a second or third offensive line type. He does not stand out that much and if he was a heralded prospect, you would have heard about him. Detroit in rebuild does not trade him if he is part of their future.
I feel strongly that through the draft is where we will get our players, most of them anyway. When the team is better meaning a fair amount of prospects have arrived and planted roots ....this is when significant trade and or free agents is to get excited about. Until then all these players fans mention....most are like used furniture that you might rent but you never use it long term |

For a very brief time back in the 90s, my cousin was Wayne's golf pro at Sherwood Country Club in CA. It was pre- my hockey fan days, so I just shrugged off his stories about Janet and Wayne. He also ~gasp~ worked with OJ Simpson for a time. Made that Bronco chase all the more exciting. |

I've said it for awhile that I wanna see Carlsson get a shot this year with the team. I've been a fan of his for awhile. AEL_Fox and I have talked for the past few years about him and how his style could very well be a Hammer lite kinda player. Only way to find out is to let him play.
My hope was/is that the Hawks finally can find someone to bite and take Gus for some draft capital and they call up Carlsson. Let Gilbert, Koekkoek, and him rotate for the bottom pairing minutes. Find out what you have in both Gilbert and Carlsson (and even KK for that matter) before the conversations of Mitchell, Beaudin, etc. start to come up and we don't get to see what they can do. - Savetheembers33

Stan didn't say anything about trading Keith and Toews for Doughty and Kopitar today? - rpeters01
Nope, that’s tomorrow’s press conference. |

Yes! He's in top 3 rookie scorers around NHL, I think
What was I saying earlier about Kane + Toews on ice at same time = quick goals? |

I don’t know who got the goal, but yeah - Boqvist walks the line and finds the lane better than any Hawk defenseman.
Good to see Kane skating with Toews and Kubalik, if only for the last shift of the period. |

I like those three together. This nonsense of 22, 47, & 95 being on the top two lines has to stop. I like them in limited roles with less time, because they aren't doing enough or showing they deserve it.
Kubalik's goal, Sage. But I also agree with you about Boq. |

Yes, while we've got the known quantity top 6 guys on the shelf, load up the lines as much as possible, starting with line 1. Worry about balance when you get Saad back. |

Is it our great defense? Or maybe not too much loose change for a quick three or four shots on goal to add to the save percentage. |

Now was that not a penalty? You can't dive at a players leg. That was worse than a knee to knee hit. |
