Hopefully Cassidy’s patented ‘dumb down 3 lines to try to fix the 2nd line’ approach picks up momentum
Lines yesterday at practice:
Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak
DeBrusk-Krejci- Heinen
Bjork-Coyle- Backes
Nordstrom-Kuraly-Wagner
Extras: Blidh, Lindholm, Ritchie, Kuhlman
Chara-Carlo
Grzelcyk-Clifton
Moore- Kampfer
Should be IMO:
Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak
DeBrusk-Krejci- Cehlarik
Bjork-Coyle- Heinen
Nordstrom-Kuraly-Wagner
Chara-Carlo
Grzelcyk-Clifton
Moore- Zboril
Cehlarik looks like a man amongst boys in Providence. Almost always leads the team in SOG and stands out. The Cassidy persecution here must (but wont) end.
Zboril / Lauzon / Vaak all deserve a look. We know what we’ve got in Kampfer.
Waive Ritchie and Lindholm, assign them to Providence.
Kuhlman and Blidh back to Providence until called upon.
Drop the (frank)ing puck. |

Yeah I like the 3rd line as you have it especially. If they're not gonna let someone slide in from Providence like you said I'd sooner see Kuraly bumped up and Ritchie on the 4th line. He or Backes on the 2nd makes me want to |

Ty may have had the right idea in his blog about Kovalchuk. If we can get him for low $ for the rest of the season why not do it?
Has to be as good if not better than everything else we tried with Ute. Ute likes the big power forwards on his wing and could be the kick that line needs.
Low risk really.

Find someone to play 2nd line RW without (frank)ing up the 3rd and 4th lines to do it. Kuraly should stay on the 4th line and Heinen should stay on the 3rd line. Ritchie, Lindholm and Backes should not see the ice unless there’s an injury on that 4th line. Right now we’re carrying an entire spare 4th line in Ritchie-Lindholm-Backes ... None of whom should be playing above a 4th line role. Ever. |

I wonder why nobody has signed him yet? At league minimum I agree it’s a low/no risk move unless there’s underlying issues with character, attitude etc.
He’s ineligible for the KHL for the rest of this season, so he’s not going anywhere.
The hesitancy might be with his defensive play (or lack thereof), but with UTE and Debrusk rounding out that line, I don’t see it as a huge issue.
Worth a shot at least IMO, as long as it’s a minimum deal with no term.

This is exactly the poop I’m talking about. The first line is good, we all know that. As is the fourth line. Heinen doesn’t belong anywhere other than the third line, so moving him up hurts the second line IMO. Then it forces them to insert Ritchie into the lineup, which kills that third line entirely as he’s a fringe 4th line NHL guy AT BEST. As much as I like Kuraly, he’s exactly where he should be so at least Cassidy didn’t (frank) that up. Hands of stone. Great fourth line energy guy, but not effective in any other role.
So in summary, Cassidy killed 2 lines tonight trying to right the void at 2RW |

Doesn’t this look better? Keeping 4th liners and borderline NHL’ers where they belong?
Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak
DeBrusk-Krejci-Kovalchuk or Cehlarik
Bjork-Coyle-Heinen
Nordstrom-Kuraly-Wagner
Chara-Carlo
Grzelcyk-Clifton
Moore-Kampfer

I mostly agree, except for the Cehlarik part. If he's the option I shift a Heinen up all day. Not like any lines apart from 1st are killing it anyway. |

Awful goal there on so many levels ...
Bad play by Benoit. Leaky initial save by Rask, terrible backup by Z. Come on, can’t let those in.

Not a good PP..nothing on the back end and too passive up front. Just not getting Heinen on 1rst line PP..and I like him... |

Nothing strikes fear into an opponent quite like seeing Heinen and Kampfer staring you down on the powerplay unit.
