What a terrible idea for the coyotes to get Taylor Hall. He’s going to get the highest return that we have seen from a rental in recent years. I really like this young coyotes team and they are headed in the right direction. But they are more than a Taylor Hall away from winning the cup and I can bet everything that he won’t resign there. Plus the Devils will be looking for conditional picks that improve when he resigns so the coyotes won’t be a good place for that either. It’s a lose lose situation and the Coyotes would have to sell the farm.

When does a *good" team who can't score become a mediocre team? I hate to break it to you, but if a team can't score, they can't Winn too much, and if they can't win enough, then they simply aren't that good.

Consistently bad shooting percentage isnt bad luck

Yotes don’t need Hall. They are probs one of the best teams, just unlucky

Good game yesterday. Isles had them shut down for most of it save for a little bit of the second. Face in palm penalty for Barzy at the end. Trotz was not too happy with him.

Great win total team effort.
I don’t think Barzy will take a selfish penalty like that again.

Strongly disagree. If the salary cap has taught us anything, it's that the traditional build to be a contender doesn't work. The Coyotes have sucked for years, and they failed to get the High End Elite player needed to build around.

They've added some nice pieces through the draft and trade that are good to build around - Dvorak, Keller, Chychrun - and via Strome, Schmaltz.

They've also got Soderstrom, Bahl, and Hayton coming.

But they have two goalies approaching 30 that are putting up the kind of WINS Against Replacement that you hope to get out of drafting a McDavid.

OEL, Kessel, Stepen, Hjalmmarson, Goligoski are approaching the end of their usefulness.

They've got the right mix of balance and youth to go for it. If they fail - and most teams do - they've got some nice building blocks that will make regrouping less painful. Hell, if they get even come close to Cup they'll have carte blanche to re-tank for that franchise player again in a few years.

As I've said all along, the Coyotes cannot score enough to compete and are too goalie-reliant. The answer to your question is that they become mediocre the second they stop getting .940 save percentages. Just like the Islanders.

I thought "InvisiPhil" Kessel was a premium goal scorer.....

Difference is the Islanders are lucky and the Yotes aren’t

Defending in front of the goalie and a team commitment to d first structure means nothing. Just gotta be lucky.

Oddly enough Greiss, Lehner and now Varlamov’s numbers are all much better playing the pipes behind a Trotz coached Isles Team. Lucky or just coincidence?

With some fate thrown in for good measure. Don’t throw out that four leaf clover. Coaches don’t matter unless you’re talking about Babcock of course. He was the reason the Leafs were losing.

I wouldn’t be trading soderstrom for a rental, even as good as hall. That kid is going to be a top defenseman in hockey very soon. He will be in conversations like Heiskanen and Makar.

I’d do it for bahl, a good forward prospect and a couple picks though. Yotes have awesome D and goaltending. That goes a long way in the playoffs

Seems like if their expected goals, possession and shot attempts were so good, tocchet must be doing something right? Not an expert on advanced stats but I’d think with those kinds of numbers they’ll win more than they lose long term.

Just another example of James not knowing the true cost to rent.
