I'm on board with Toffoli. I definitely would a RH top six option (who would have thought we'd say that). But Phil's spot on the PP needs to be replaced.

I really know nothing of Tofolli's game other than he's a decent scorer.

Decent is better than most of what the Pens have on the ice though. With 87 and 71 aging they are going to need more support.

Id look to jettison Galch, Gjustad, Simon,

I think the Nux are looking at acquiring Toffoli… JB just mentioned the other day they are hunting for a top 6 winger... He'd fit in nicely moving up and down the lineup...

Kovy is going to be bought out and would be a free asset essentially. That's intriguing and low risk.
Toffoli is going to cost a prospect or pick... No way they take a roster player/ salary dump like galchenyuk unless JR has Jedi hand waving powers...

Was there a morning skate? Curious as to who was the first goalie off the ice.

They almost never do morning skates so no. Sully speaks to the media a couple hours before games so we wait until then.

Also Blandisi recalled on emergency again so no Malkin or someone is missing. Will be Blandisi's 4th straight day in a game.

Thanks... They should consider doing one to work on that horrendous power play... Especially the 4 vs 3 like it was in OT last game...

I'm starting to think Toffoli might net more than has been rumored just because of the lack of options. I still would aim for him though.

I’d be willing to take a chance on Kovalchuk if it meant dumping some of our lesser contracts.

Johnson and Bjugstad for Kovalchuk, anyone?

Not me. Kovalchuk will be 37 by the playoffs. He'd have to take a regular shift on the 3rd line and he's not even that dynamic on the PP anymore.

Pens can use a PP specialist, but he as to still be able to take a regular shift because they'll want that line to be an advantage.

Do we have anything beyond unverifiable, unaccountable internet rumor-mongers stating this?

Just Friedman and Dreger reports that typically are very accurate...

Not related to this blog, but I'm finding writers' and commenters' takes from various outlets on the Jarry/Murray subject to be rather dismissive on the possibility that Jarry steals the job. Reasoning:

1. While Jarry will regress to a currently unknown degree, people act as if Murray is some beacon of consistency. He's been consistently inconsistent with stretches of brilliance and sub-par play for what is now a majority of his career.

2. Jarry was a higher draft pick. It obviously doesn't matter when someone drafted, and I'll concede that 2 cups warrants some hefty bias towards Murray. However some writers seem intent on dismissing the possibility of Jarry stealing the job as if the Pens drafted Murray with an early first round pick i.e. Fleury and are too heavily invested in him.

3. This same thing happened four years ago. You have to have a short memory span to not realize the legitimacy of this being Jarry's net in a month or two, considering the same thing happened a few years ago.

I would normally fall in the middle of the debate and say, "The best tender should play, but you don't trade Murray because the return on goalies is weak and it has obviously proved invaluable to have two capable goalies in the playoffs." Murray's pending UFA status is a wild card though. If this trend continues, I don't see any folly in the scenario of Jarry taking the starting role and the Pens looking to trade Murray.

So I did a twitter search and the only bluecheck reporting this is someone called Igor Eronko. He apparently works for a Russian news outlet. All the other traffic on Twitter is simply based on Eronko’s original report.

I’m skeptical for two reasons:

1) The Kings are stuck with the cap hit regardless.

2) I believe contract terminations require the player’s consent. (Could be mistaken). What’s to say they have Kovalchuk’s?

LeBrun also reported on it. It's professional courtesy in the media to retweet the person who broke the news then add what your sources have told you.

I don't think at this point anyone is dismissing the possibility here. In the media, for sure.

I'll just speak for myself and say I've seen a lot of goalies burst on the scene only to cool off. I'd just like to see Jarry continue over a longer period of time before anointing him the long-term starter, but he's earning that chance.

People are scared of Murray's inconsistency because it's been in front of them, but go look up Jarry's numbers. I hope he's the real deal, but he wasn't doing in the minors what he's doing now.

I just have s terrible feeling trading for a Toffoli type will end up being a Galchenyuk. Then we will get rid of Galchenyuk and he will start to put up points. Trade Murray for a bonafide goal scoring wing.
