I think they are still missing an element or two, there's something nagging at me about a little more physicality on the blue line, I wonder if a Gudbranson/Engelland type acquisition at TDL might be an option for the Flames. #7/8 guy who can come in and clear the crease against a bit of a heavier team.

Tre's not wrong in that you need a team that can adapt to a lot of different play styles, and this is the one that stands out a bit for me right now...

Rinaldo being somewhat useful is a surprise to me, that might be in small sample sizes, but I've liked what he's brought. Dube and Mangy's progression have also been a really nice surprise this year, and I don't mind Rieder as a PK specialist as much as those who might be expecting more out of him. Frolik and Janko are the real dead weight at the moment.

Mony playing a little more defensively/ohysically is not a bad thing either, and to a lesser extent, reminds me of some of the change that Stevie Y had to go through in order to get himself and his team to the next level. Same as Kopitar...

How about Begosian? He's a hurter but he's a big RHS D & is healthy now. Problem is we are up to the cap so tight our nuts are starting to show dollar signs.

Yeah, wouldn't mind that, though I don't think he'd be any happier here as a 7/8 guy. Think he's looking for top 4 minutes... could be wrong...

So are the Sabres up against the cap.
Maybe Frolik for Bogosian and the Sabres eat the 842K difference in salary?
This would help with our pending forward surplus issue and allow us to send Kylington down to play big minutes.
Frolik probably slots into Buffalos top 9 and Bogosian slots into our 3rd pair.

No thanks to Bogo. As long as it doesn't involve Rass or Valimaki I hope we're trying to get Hall here. Our need is in the top 6 not on D.

Would Hall make us a contender? I would only want him if we can resign him and that contract is going to be pretty high.

When Brodie went down and then Hamonic we were scary on the backend. Even healthy having Stone in there is really concerning. Don't think a top 4 but a solid top 6D depth dman would really help.

Zipfel rejoining this thread would make Flames one, i have just seen him posting in Eklund's laundry thread.

Trading for an extended Hall will be very costly.
If Rasmus and Vali aren't part of the package you're giving up 2 firsts, plus, plus and to that I say NO THANKS.
Same goes for a rental Hall you're paying a 1st plus and NO THANKS

Yeah I agree. Hall is way too expensive for us to acquire right now, and with the way Mangiapane and Dube have started developing I'm not sure we need to worry as much about the Top 6 as we used to. We could still definitely use an upgrade there, but I don't tbink the hole is nearly as massive as it has been in years past.

I'm always a fan of adding depth on the blue line. You can never have too much defense, especially if you want to go on a playoff run, though that is getting a but ahead of ourselves.

I think Janko, Frolik, and possibly Brodie are our likely trade pieces right now. Not sure we can get much from them right now but at least Frolik has upped his value a bit in recent games.

The refs were so sure they got the right call they didn’t actually watch the video. that’s horrible they should be beaten with a stick.

Absolutely. He is in the Mackinnon calibre of player when he is healthy/on his game. If Colorado is able to land him they will be very hard to stop.

I'd be on board with something like-

Brodie
Kylington
Frolik
Conditional 2nd (becomes a 1st if Hall resigns)
~10 mill in space

Hall
Depth d? (We might have to search the market)

Hall's cap hit is only 6 mill this year, pretty manageable. That gives Tre the rest of the year to work his magic and try and get him resigned. Hall wants to win, and being able to stick a big middle finger up to the Oilers could be pretty alluring. Plus he was born in Calgary.

New Jersey gets help on the blueline with some prime years left in Brodie (who should be relatively easy to extend) and good potential in Kylington (his skating ability is elite--I think he will have a good career in the NHL). Frolik is still a useful depth player.

He would immediately be surpassed by Valimaki on the depth chart when he gets healthy. I just think he's a waste of cap space---5 million for a #7 dman, nah there has to be better options.
