The first goal Leafs give it away at their own blue line and was a wide open shot from the slot. Prime scoring area, Leafs backed in almost to their own net and waved their sticks around while allowing a 40 goal scorer to walk right in.

Second goal Leafs get caught pinching and give Buff 3 on 1. Eichel, another guy who sucks at shooting wires one from the same area, high slot. No chance.

3rd goal, weak coverage in front and a point shot is redirected 2 feet down. No chance.

4th goal. Muzzin gets beat and Eichel steals the puck. Leafs get caught running around, Eiche feeds Olofsson. Once again, wide open, high slot, tonnes of time. And he wires one. Another guy who sucks at shooting while on pace to score 30.

5th goal. Matthews just hands it to Vesey in front and he dekes out Hutch unchallenged.

6th, EN.

funny.

Ullmark stopped a shot like that in the final seconds of the 1st.

Maybe because he gave himself a chance by not flopping to one side of the net and overcomitting to the shot.

Hutch had a chance he just didn't give himself one.

Edit: and no chance on the Echiel goal? Damn, another 1st period stop Ullmark made on Nylander. Why does Ullmark have chances on these plays?

Over the decades. Lol

Sure, the leafs have been poop forever. Whens the last time they had 3 premiere talents under the age of 23 signed for 5-6 years to go with that...?

Not like we're trading high picks and prospects for the over the hill Brian leetch and Ron Francis' of the league or something...

Leafs started very well. Then Hutch allowed multiple weak ass goals and the players died inside going through the same garbage every time he starts.

Hutch should never start another game for the Leafs.

- GreatGigInTheSky

Especially against an Avs lineup that already has Rantanen back & might have Landeskog too. Could get ugly.

Redirections, although stopped sometimes are never considered the fault of he goaltender except on hockey buzz where Leaf fans desperately try to blame anything and everything that isn't the actual issue with the team so a quick fix will all of the sudden make the team relevant.

They certainly don't get paid 11 million bucks to not body check.

It's like Siakam, a championship athlete said the other night. If I'm not shooting the ball well I can always contribute in other ways. Grabbing rebounds and especially taking pride in my defence.

The Leafs could learn a lot form the Raptors.

What was the velocity on Nylanders shot compared to Eichels? Not even close.

Again, no one is saying Hutch is good. But you guys jump through hoops trying to deny how garbage this team is defensively. It's hilarious.

Dude.

Goalies make saves on deflections all the (frank)ing time. It happens 5-10 times a game.

No one is saying Hutch is fully to blame on all these goals. But he is a goalie and is expected to make tough saves.

You just explained every goal like Hutch had zero chances on.....That is false. Ullmark(an average backup goalie) stopped Nylander on a breakaway, a two on one and a tip shot ALL in the 1st period. Why does Ullmark have chances on these plays and Hutch doesn't?

Hutch has sucked bad. There is no reason for him to be letting in 5 goals every game. He needs to make tough saves because every damn team in the league gives up quality chances every night. I am not here to argue that TOR gives up less than BOS because that is not true. But every damn team gives up chances and your goalie is expected to save a lot of them. Hutch simply hasn't.

Sure. You can really commit to that statement while commenting on leafs fans having unrealistic expectations?

No team in the league is going to hang their hats on whether the Marner's, Matthews and nylanders of the team are hitting people enough. Sorry, they're not.

Of course they contribute in other ways. Marner kills penalties, Matthews has been utilized in many different ways.

If your 22 year old 11 mil guys don't hit enough, you don't demand they alter their game for it, because the 94 points a season takes precedent. Im blown away this has to be said...

What?

man, you aren't worth talking to if you are going to bring up poop like this. Shame on you.

I have no (frank)ing clue can you find the guy who holds the meter and find out? or are you just pulling poop out of your ass?

I cant believe the options keefe has to play with once were all healthy.

how did babs coach us into the ground?! lol just wow.

- Lucas.Neilson

Sure.
Nothing to do with players giving up, refusing to play a system (albeit one that wasnt for these defensively weak players), giving 100% effort.

Marner goes into the corner and pays the price. Nylander does not. What different ways has Matthews been 'utilized'? It's not that they don't hit enough, they don't hit barely at all. Matthews plays like he's 5 foot 8. It's just a waste is all. Ovechkin was a wussy in junior and was embarrassed in the World Juniors. Then he changed. Played a tough but necessary to win style and never looked back. He not only scores, he hammers guys and intimidates them into giving the puck away. The Leafs are viewed a the softest team in the NHL. It's just sad really.

Hutch needs to be better. Not sure the nhl is for him. He needed to make an extra save or two.
But the team doesnt play well defensively in front of him. No arguing that, but he needs to make a save during crucial times.

Also, the argument how come one goalie can save a willie shot but the other couldn't save an eichel shot is facking assinine.

If the players completely embarrasse themselves prior, yes.
Babs needed to be moved out.
But players share a big part of the blame

So is the implication that these guys having not changed at 22-23 means the book is closed and they're a waste?

Alright. I'll admit, I've never been the type to have the patience for this halfway max / UG bs shtick where we preach ridiculous things as fact and when the entire world questions them on it we talk down to them like the rest of the world is to thick to understand. So I'm just gonna excuse myself.

Good chat.

I never once said the Leafs played well defensively.

I did say Hutch sucked and heavily contributed to the loss.
