There were multiple giveaways by the Leafs in their end that game. Matthews made two brutal ones right in front. One of which Hutch made the save. They are a tire fire defensively in front of Hutch. Getting a better backup is a good thing, but it's not going to all of the sudden make the Leafs play well in their end.

The team obviously has zero confidence in Hutch. That magnifies when he lets in another soft one. You can see their shoulders slump immediately when that happens, and it happens a lot. With the talent that this team has they don't need a world beater for a back up, just someone who isn't a complete sieve.

It would be a mistake to switch these forward pairs. Leave nylander with Matthew's....but I might try nylander on his lw as he was dominant at lw in back to back worlds with Sweden. Maybe put mikeyev on their rw and play johnson at lw with tavares and hyman to 3rd lw where he belongs with kerfoot and happy.

Compare his numbers with the top centre of the other teams. I think you will find out that he’s right at the top. Not that you would ever admit it.

The first goal Leafs give it away at their own blue line and was a wide open shot from the slot. Prime scoring area, Leafs backed in almost to their own net and waved their sticks around while allowing a 40 goal scorer to walk right in.

Second goal Leafs get caught pinching and give Buff 3 on 1. Eichel, another guy who sucks at shooting wires one from the same area, high slot. No chance.

3rd goal, weak coverage in front and a point shot is redirected 2 feet down. No chance.

4th goal. Muzzin gets beat and Eichel steals the puck. Leafs get caught running around, Eiche feeds Olofsson. Once again, wide open, high slot, tonnes of time. And he wires one. Another guy who sucks at shooting while on pace to score 30.

5th goal. Matthews just hands it to Vesey in front and he dekes out Hutch unchallenged.
