Pens gave Noessen an nhl contract and he is reporting to pittsburgh. Explains the Blandisi on waivers move. 14 goals thus far in WBS isn't too bad.

Really? Nice 👍🏻 He deserves a chance. Hopefully he at least battles hard for pucks.

Hornqvist fell in practice today. Being evaluated for lower-body.

Pens Inside Scoop

It's laughable right now

Also this

-Schultz (LB) has been skating and next step will be to join practice. Expected to be soon.

I thought he was out long term?

- Thorny87

Good news on Schultz. I'm not his biggest fan, but he's much better than Trotman/Ruhwedel.

It happened, where's everyone who told me it couldn't!

He was easily WBS's best player and is just a couple seasons removed from 13g, 27 pts in the NHL, so they could do worse for a call-up.

I was shocked to see the Jake Geno Simon line was broken up during practice today. They looked very strong in that back to back.

We can talk about bringing in a D-man to help all we want but the biggest need is quality goaltending. Murray is playing like garbage and who knows what Jarry will do without any puck support in a more demanding role. I have no doubts we survive this stretch and are in a good spot come mid March, but it isn't going to be very fun over the next month. Probably some boring hockey coming up.

- burgh4life87

Lines were really in the blender today. Simon had a nice game but can't finish and I don't need to see him on the line that needs to score. I like him opposite Galchenyuk.

Anyone catch the d pairs? Also ZAR ended up on the top PP after Hornqvist left.

😂 I love it - way to stop on top of this guy. What should we expect?

It was nice of RW to use 6 games for judging Murray so he could use .905 instead of going back 5 games and having to say sub .890

Beats me. He was a useful middle six player on the Devil's playoff team. Sandwiched that with 2 years he played 40+ NHL games. I just expect him to be better than Blandisi and maybe Lafferty.

Well the good news for him is, he is now playing as bad as MAF did in the playoffs from 2010 thru 2015 and he's a God is some people's eyes.

I think this is where people are misguided. I'm a fan of Murray, but I'm aware he's not playing so great as of late, but that's also how goaltending goes sometimes. I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but goaltending is a roller coaster and even the best goalies in the world go through shaky points throughout a season.

The issue to me is people are so quick to trade a guy who's proven so much. I'm not saying at the end of they day they may ultimately be wrong about him, but he's earned the benefit of the doubt and more patience IMO. So many people treated Fleury the same way and now that he's gone they sing his praises.

Heard Noesen is week to week already with a wrist injury that he got while signing his new contract.

No way. You can keep that turd of a contract. At least Galchenyuk walks after this season.

My proposal is not based on a scenario where pit acts in a logical manner.

Yeah, but if we did that there wouldn't have been money to sign Jack Johnson.

Can anyone explain to me why they like xGF% Rel.? Jesse Marshall tweeted out stats about them and i just feel like they are the most useless stats...

and does anyone actually know the equation used for xGF? All i can find is articles saying that different shots have different shots have different values, but i can't find what the values are?

I like to think if xGF relative similar to how people used to look at plus/minus as an attempt to measure a player's overall performance looking at not just shots but where they're coming from for and against while trying to take out factors beyond the player's control like goaltending and teammates.

It has some holes because not every player is equal at converting the same chances and doesn't account for the huge mistake, but it's one way to get a feel of a player's overall impact on offense versus defense chances.

Was also surprised...

One little bit of good news is Rust if officially day-to-day.

In Pens language this can be still several weeks... hope they're honest there, i tR(!)ust them, as i else would be more or less forced to drop him in my fantasy leagues for a healthy player.

In other news DeSmith lights AHL (.951 SV in November)... still surprised noone including Leafs claimed him.

see but i don't think "relative" takes out factors beyond their control, such as teammates, it just compares them to each other. like why does Genos gf% rel compared to rust GF% rel matter to me? and not just their abilities to score against their opponents.

Essentially, from my understanding, the equation is created by a bunch of "k-factor multipliers", which are just arbitrary number values given to different things (shots, shot distances, shot angles, chances of rebounds ie) to come up with an expected GF. . But all these k-factor values are given based on conversion rates of past data...goals. so why is this data anymore useful than just actual GF%, which is also past data.

IneffectiveMath on Twitter is the only source I know that has calculated isolated impact which is far superior to relative stats as you have noted.

Crosby is 16th on the team behind Simon, AJohnson, JJ, Dumo, ZAR and Trotman. If you are looking for logic, I suggest you look elsewhere.
