After that exact cross check wasn't a penalty when the Preds did it, it was suddenly enough to gives the Preds a 5 on 3. Arvidsson sold it, laying on the ice like he was shot, until he knows he got the call then magically able to start getting up no problem.

Does that make it ok for Bortuzzo to give the second cross check? Nope. He deserves his 4 game suspension. Just because the officials were bending the Blues over and Arvidsson sold a call doesn't excuse that second cross check where Bortuzzo thinks he'll get his money's worth.

As a Blues fan, I’m not going to complain about the 4 games. But how did Foligno only get 3 games recently for a flying elbow that knocked the snot out of Bellamare?

I'd say no, it's not enough but worse has been done and received less.

"Nashville Predators forward Viktor Arvidsson will miss four to six weeks after hurting his lower body when cross-checked during the first period of Saturday night’s 4-2 win over St. Louis."

I don't ever want to hear about homer-ism in non-traditional markets again. StL fan is being ridiculous here.

I think he’s referring to the first cross-check which was clearly a dive. The second cross-check is where the injury occurred.

This sort of comment is exactly why people insult fans in non-traditional markets. Arvidsson was fine after the first cross check. He acted like his head hit the cross bar, but it pretty clearly missed as shown by the side camera angle.

Arvidsson is out with a lower body injury, which (obviously to anyone who actually watched the play) occurred when Bortuzzo cross checked him much harder, the second time.

At least watch the play before commenting next time. Bortuzzo lightly cross checked, Arvidsson embellished, Bortuzzo cross-checked again but much harder, Arvidsson got hurt.

The first cross check wasn't a penalty at any other point in the game, despite happening quite a few times.

Cross Checking is illegal on its face. If the ref, using his discretion, decides to call or not call a penalty, that's up to him. Once the player has committed a cross-check, however, to complain that the ref didn't call it some other time is just stupid. If you don't want to get called, don't do it in the first place.

The thing I'm puzzled about is that, per the League's video, the second cross-check was "not a hockey play"... so therefore it would seem intent to injure would apply here = match penalty. Bortuzzo got suspended and the Preds won the game anyway, so nothing lost there, I suppose.

As for the length of the suspension - since Bortuzzo had a track record, and the injury occurred from non-hockey play, I think Bortuzzo got off easy.

All these idiot Blues fans whining about embellishment (it wasn't) to justify an intent to injure (obviously). I knew they didn't have any class, I just didn't know they would prove it so often.

He should be out until Arvy comes back.

Man are Preds fans simple!
Antilles commented above as to what actually happened. Arvidson feels stick to back- flops like a fish pretending to hit his head on crossbar going down(he dove)
Bozo the clown didn't like the fact that he was receiving a penalty for that(i totally see his frustration over this) Bozo then puts the lumber to arvidson's back(which is when the injury occured)
I get Bozo's frustration. However as also stated above, Do not take the chance that the Zebras will be consistent(never going to happen). What he did out of frustration is unacceptable and in my opinion he got off easy for the suspension.
But how can you not clearly see exactly what happened with that play?

Bortuzzo, the GOON, should have been suspended for at least 20 games. A disgusting deliberate attack to sustain injury isn't part of hockey and this fact needs to be thoroughly ingrained in every player's mind.

It doesn't matter if Arvidsson dived or sold the cross-check or not, I don't care if he recited a scene from Hamlet on the way to the ice, it doesn't justify what Betuzzo did after the fact. Not all of them mind you, but some Blues fans are trying to do exactly that. There's been a couple of idiots on our message boards gleefully squealing about it. Standing by your player is fine when they do something stupid, but there is no defending a player intentionally trying to injure another, and this was a clear attempt at that by a repeat offender. If he had such a problem with what he perceived as a dive, there are plenty of legal ways to get your receipt throughout the game that isn't deliberately threatening somebody's livelihood. This bozo would obviously rather take a cheap shot at the guy when he can't defend himself.

I'd take Bortuzzo the Clown on the Bruins tomorrow
I think most Teams in the League could use a guy like this.

But ya 4 games seems ok.

Watching that video probably gave the Bruins fans and management a half chub

If it was Simmonds or Subban instead of Arvidsson, Bortuzzo would be a Bruin right now.

Bortuzzo also has a history of being a goon, particularly with crosschecks. Back in March he got Malkin in the ribs with this nasty one that was not even called on the ice, nor did it receive any supplemental discipline:

Malkin was out for a while. Also, back when he was a Penguin, he got Jagr with a head shot:

Bortuzzo should get 8-10 games for the brutal cross-check to a man on the ground. Regardless of the initial call he blatantly laid the lumber to his lower back and I’m sure the injury is knee-related when you watch how he’s bent. Scum-bag move but he won’t learn

So, intent to injure Bertuzzo is only one game more than spitting on a player. And elbow to the head, that results in concussion to a #1 draft choice in 2018 is one game LESS than spitting on a player. Burtuzzo should be 10 to 15 and Cernak should be 8 to 10. Just the facts and the injuries should have impact on suspension. So NO way did the league get it right. Too biased!!!

I totally agree. It is a shame that players have to "build up a reputation" (i.e. create path of damage) before the league will dish out serious suspensions. Cernak especially should have gotten a lot more but he doesn't have a reputation yet.
