Or, maybe I'm just amusing myself publicly on a slow Saturday morning after a bad workout grumpy pants.
- Chunk

Well, I’m off to go out and work...maybe that’s why I’m grumpy.

I stand corrected. I always thought that slide rule only applied to Jrs. Thanks for the info.

Hahahaha!! Well said, & I agree with all points. I've said before, we aren't as bad as the team that has been dominated & we aren't as good as the team that dominated. We're somewhere in the middle. A young team finding itself, but on the trend upwards.
- I Am The Breadman

I'd say the trend is a little more consistent

Dylan Strome on WGN post-game:

"we're trying to build some momentum here doing a lot of new things and new systems, it takes a little bit of getting used to...we kind of went back to our old system a little bit from last year tonight, so I think we felt a lot more comfortable."

- pdx2ord

I thought the defense looked different.

I forgot what game i asked the question about the defense but it's funny all these pro bloggers couldn't see the change and criticizing the man to man defense when they weren't playing it.

Read the latest Pens blog by Ryan Wilson. He's evaluating ex Penguin Maatta. In it he mentions that Gus is one of the better if not best Chicago defender. Had to read it twice.

Do not trade Beaudin or Mitchell as they represent the best we have to possibly perform one day in a top pair. We could draft a top skill or power forward in 2020.
- jhawk59

Right on, jhawk. Beaudin and Mitchell are the team's best bets for all-around defenders with top 3 potential to be constant threats of flipping the ice in a flash. Of course, Boqvist rounds them out as the offensive dynamo who can learn how to defend decently to hold his own.

Trade either or both Beaudin and Mitchell and you have 2nd and 3rd pair prospects like Gilbert, Carlsson, Vlasic, Krys, Galvas, Regula, and Moberg moving up the depth chart. That's not bad as any team still needs prospects to fill out the 4-7 spots with solid contributors.

However, as pdx referenced, why deplete the high-end D prospect pool even more after trading Jokiharju? There are other ways to fill needs. Plus, I don't think the farm isn't bad at all. It's way better than what it was even a year ago.

Waiting to hear update on Nordgren coming over.
- jhawk59

I was the one who made that sarcastic comment about Nordgren coming over from Finland now that he finally has a clean bill of health. That was just a joke. Sorry for getting your hopes up.

Nordgren is a big work in progress. At least 3 years away, IMO. His skating needs a lot of help. Also needs to learn how to skate with his head up or else a small guy like him will get lit up. He at least has experience playing against men as a teenager.

Yea its weird how some people think a defenseman doesn't have to be good at playing defense. I don't get it

Forgot who asked about whether the Hogs play a dump-and-chase style. The answer is no. They carry the puck in pretty much every time except do a dump in if absolutely necessary.

They take advantage of solid puck carriers like Sikura, Kurashev, Highmore, Hagel, Wedin, and Nilsson. They bring the puck in with speed and all are willing to drive the net, i.e. not pure perimeter players.

Guess the youngsters need rest for the upcoming back to back. Seabs sits tomorrow against a faster team?

Why? Should have sent them back to Saskatoon and Rockford then, at least they will play 20 minutes a night. Arguably, play your best game of the year against Vancouver and you sit your two best kids the very next game. This organization is starting to look really stupid once again!!

Maybe Mike Smith and Alpo Suhonen are looking for work?

Nope, I was just lurking a few years ago, and reading JJ’s made up rumors.

Conversations happen!

Still disappointed the Hawks didn't grab Boedker after JJ mentioned the Hawks needed a speedy winger to flank Toews on the left...and then as if by magic, the Hawks were talking to whoever about Boedker (don't recall or care who he was with at the time).

I like the fact the coach isn't married to 1 system like Q was, trying to get a feel for what works best for his team. To me it looks like JC is here more for development than winning.

JJ's MO was always post a blog saying who he felt the Hawks needed then suddenly one of his "sources" had the Hawks chasing that exact same player. One would almost think JJ made poop up.
