It's clear Chicago is at crossroads , this team as currently buildt was thought to be a upgrade and potentially compete with the hopes of 2 starting number 1 goalies and a upgraded bottom 6.

I think it's safe to say that's not happening, until they can go on some amazing run and prove everyone wrong my bet is a safe one.

Chicago has some young defensive prospects in their system , but no top 6 forward prospects .

Strome , cat , Dach boqvist Nylander are a good start for Chicago future

The current makeup of Chicago's defenseman with their contract lengths only allows Chicago at best 1 spot to offer in the next 4 years

Maatta and DE HAAN I'm not sure they end up staying in Chicago due to cap space and the easy choice to trade.

The writing is on the wall when Stan gets relieved of his duties a new general manager will come in and trade toews or Kane and buyout or move Seabrook and Keith.

Anaheim, st Louis all made coaching changes at saw immediate results

Chicago is trying to follow in the footsteps of Detroit and use that teams model , the problem with that is Detroit was able to stay competitive because it was a different salary cap system , and once the cap system currently was put in place , you can see how Detroit was special with back to back cup appearances until Chicago became the new dynasty and Detroit became irrelevant .

Yes the Hawks have no top 6 fwd prospects in the system because they’ve all been elevated to the current team like you mention.

Spezza is being waived by the Leafs because Zach Hyman is coming off LTIR and they need the cap space. Spezza is 36 and probably finished. He a Toronto native and signed a cheap 1 year deal with them and is expendable in their eyes. If he doesn't clear waivers, no loss for them.

I agree. Q should not have been fired, if they were going to fire someone it should have been Stan. Stan is responsible for managing the cap, but even in that hypothetical situation Stan shouldn't be fired.... Look, when your team is successful the players are going to want to get paid, so there is really nothing you can do about that... Yes, Stan has made some questionable signings Seabrook, Bickell but could Stan really have let Seabrook walk after all he's done for this franchise?? I don't think so. I will say the term on Seabrook's contract should have been different tho, perhaps 3-4 years, but if Stan let Seabrook walk the fans would have been pissed...

IMO, Q is one of the few guys in history that got fired for doing his job too well. lol

Like I said when a team is successful the players will want to get paid and in a cap era you only have so much.

The Hawks demise the past couple of seasons have really been no ones fault.. I mean what moves could have prevented this? not many..

I just wish some Hawks fans understood this, but no - they wanted "change", so now we have JC who is playing "dump & chase" with a high skill "run & gun" hockey team..

If I were Bowman I would have JC on a very short leash and if the Hawks are not at .500 (SO losses included) come Christmas I would replace him with Crawford... And you know what? I wouldn't be shocked if that was Bowman's game plan or "plan B" all along... Crawford has plenty of experience and success coaching skilled teams like this...JC is a rookie coach, and IMO the Hawks need a veteran coach that know what he's doing and takes advantage of the Hawks assets and uses them properly...

Are we all sure that Q wanted to stay and go through a 5 year rebuild?

My source said "NO"!

Boston lost to Detroit, so I guess no cup for them. Vancouver lost to Winnipeg after losing to Chicago, so must not be far along in their rebuild.

Breadman, all we need is a couple of games to determine how the season will turn out, are you not paying attention? And when we win a couple of games in a row that same person will go to another board and talk trash, he’s just a troll. I’ve only posted here for a bit, but I’ve been visiting this board for a long time. Now back to hockey, we need some consistency from our guys, our record does not indicate how good we are, we now have some stability in our back end with our offseason additions, our PK is now trending up, our power play looked good last game (only one game), we have some talented young players, and I’m looking forward to the rest of this season.

Hahahaha!! Well said, & I agree with all points. I've said before, we aren't as bad as the team that has been dominated & we aren't as good as the team that dominated. We're somewhere in the middle. A young team finding itself, but on the trend upwards.

Just thinking ahead and being optimistic. Say the Hawks go on a winning streak and Boqvist contributes to the offense and plays decent defense. What happens to him when Murphy comes off LTIR? He'll probably have his nine games in and his ELC slide year will be nullified. Does he stay? If so, and assuming the Hawks won't carry 8D, who's the odd man out? Koekkoek or Gus the likely candidates? 4K probably won't clear waivers. Maybe a trade in the near future?

The 9 game slide rule only applies to juniors. The AHL is pro, so his ELC has already started.

However, I do have a question. Since his contract slid a year last year, could it slide again if he had stayed in London?

Capfriendly says Boqvist is still a slide candidate. Think it may have something to do with his age, or the fact he is Swedish and was "loaned" to London last year. He just turned 19.

According to Cap Friendly, it will slide if he plays 10 NHL games AHL games don't count.

I stand corrected. I always thought that slide rule only applied to Jrs. Thanks for the info.

Stick with this system! Although Vancouver looked half asleep out there tho. We’ll see how they fare vs Kahun and the Pens tonight.
