I will tell you from a players perspective that players do think about goalie stats when taking a penalty. The game is way to fast to think about I can’t take a penalty because goalie sucks or I can take a penalty because my goalie is good. Also players don’t purposely take penalties. So your theory is seriously flawed

Sign him.

If he doesn't want to sign, move him for a big haul. At least a 1st ++.

If he wants to stay in Chicago, but would entertain a trade, move him then sign him on July 1st.

Ek, you're right, Robin Lehner has been great for Chicago - the least of their worries - the hope is that he's the Hawks goaltender for the foreseeable future.

It'll be up to him if he wants to stay but sounded like at the time of the signing that Robin would eventually be the heir apparent to the goal after Crawford finishes up this season.

Lehner has been one of the lone bright spots on the Hawks this season. He's the reason why this team even has some points on the season and has bailed them out on multiple occasions. You can see how frustrated he is with the guys in front of him too when they make poor plays. Pekke Rinne's comments after the embarrassing game they played against Nashville said a lot about how good he's been.

I would love to have Lehner locked up for three or four more years after this year whether the team is good or not because he's starting to live up to that potential and show it on the ice regularly, but if he doesn't want to sign long term OR if he and the Hawks have a mutual understanding that he gets traded to a contender to try and win a cup and then signs in FA I'd be all for it.

Lehner is solid but the question is, can he become a hotter goalie or raise his game in the Po's? I think he is more tradeable to a team looking for a second half stretch run because his stats are solid and predictable.

Other goalies look so elegant when they let in goals. Lehner needs to work on that.

I could see the HAWKS trying to work out a long term deal with Lehner ,if not deal him at or before the deadline for a decent return . That would signal the start of a rebuild ,as the HAWKS goalie prospects are 1 or 2 maybe 3 years removed from playing in the show .

There is no lineup for Lehner and to think that he will be moved as a big chip to a contender is ridiculous at best.

Why would he even want to sign a long term contract with the Hawks? They are going to be bad for several years, I'd imagine he hopes to be traded to a contender or sign with a contending team during free agency.

Hoping Buff comes back with a month or two to play, plays well but also announces he’s retiring after this year and Jets trade him at deadline.

a couple of big IFs with this one...

1. If lehenr wants to stay in chicago the hawks will sign him
2. If skates come off this team big time and that is possible and lehner has to make 40 saves a night...maybe he says to hell with this and moves on and the hawks consider a TDL move

Why the hell would the "Big Fish" of the deadline be a goaltender???

Strong chance if you are in the playoffs you have somewhat decent goaltending.

A "Big fish" would imply lots of teams would be interested

Crawford won't be back with the Hawks next year. Crow is in the final season of his contract, and while still a great goalie, he is getting older and the Hawks can't afford $11 million to keep both goalies going forward. If not for Lehner, the Hawks would probably only have about 3 points this season and that has more to do with how bad the team is playing in front of both goalies.

You're right

I always see goalies dealt for 1st rounders (PLUS) prospects (PLUS) Picks at every deadline.

Cause one things for certain if you are a playoff team you probably have crappy goaltending that got you there.
