If a backup goaltender is that big of an issue, it really should've been addressed in the off season so that Andersen could get some games taken off his plate. A 5 million dollar insurance policy at the trade deadline isn't what you want to be doing cap gymnastics for when you're looking to make a run. Just my two cents
- RickJames77

Unfortunately, the entire off-season was focused on signing a bunch of league minimum players because Marner and his camp insisted on being overpaid by $2 million.

Yep,

So the final cut is between Timashov, Shore and Spezza.

I'm thinking it'll be Spezza.

I hope not. I'd take Spezza over both of them.

Shore is who I hope gets waived.

I wouldn't argue with you or Rick on this one. As much as I have liked many of the things Dubas has done, failing to upgrade the backup position is on him - especially when you consider they want to allocate 20 - 25 starts to that position. He rolled the dice on Sparks - and that was a gamble most would have and felt should have been taken. Looking at how Pickard played afterwards doesn't seem to be much of a loss, but McElhinney would have been better last year. This year his .899 svp and 3.94 GAA is positively Sparksian.

When you get into the $700 - $750k range, the options available were really no better than what we have in Hutchinson. Would Johnson be better? Did they give up Neuvirth too easily? I don't know. Even with some savings, there are very few options available up to the $1.5m range -- but it should have been addressed.

c'mon man... you know how this works...

Dreger needs to spew RFA offer sheet garbage for 3-4 months - speculating on 9digit contracts FOR EVER...

then... and only then Dubas freaks-out and signs him to 7M x 3yr bridge

or some other stupid approach.

This is how you succeed:

“The Senators will be all-in again for a five-year run of unparalleled success – where the team will plan to spend close to the NHL’s salary cap every year from 2021 to 2025,” the statement said. “(Melnyk) reiterated that the Senators’ current rebuild is a blueprint on how to bring the Stanley Cup home to its rightful place in Ottawa.

For all the laughs we got from the Sens in the last few years.

If San Jose keeps playing terribly, there's a chance they could get two top 5 picks next draft.

Next year we will ice a 17 man roster. No backup goalie, 4 d, 12 forwards. Like my beer league...!

They might go for the longer term, medium salary type contract that we've seen with a few young promising players. Worked great for guys like JVR and Roman Josi, not so much with Zaitsieve...

I'm not worried.

They'll find some way to (frank) it up.
