Aside from some glaring name spelling errors, the part about rielly and ceci being the only above average defenseman kills me. Ceci? Lol. Wow. And that 'serviceable' Jake muzzin has probably been the teams best all around defenseman so far.

Good article, but sheesh.

Despite all that and missing an $11 million player they still took two points from the poopty Flyers.

good read.

though it seems like you were trying to force the LA game into a story you already written.

quick played really well, leafs were unlucky not to have scored earlier. leafs played a tight defensive game. matthews and nylander will have more opportunities now with tavares taking the tough matchups like kopitar.

The Leafs league minimum players - Shore, Marincin, Petan, Spezza, Guathier, Moore , Mikheyev - are all significantly better than replacement players. The Leafs aren't hurt by being forced to rely on league minimum contracts.

They intentionally spent their money on elite players knowing that other teams are so bad at evaluating players that they can get solid mid-range players who provide tons of value on league min. contracts.

Studs and Duds is the path the Leafs chose, on purpose. That is because in a salary cap world, it's not worth spending money on a $4 million dollar player. The approximately same player is available for league minimum and you can pump the savings into retaining Marner.

When it's all said and done Kyle Dubas will have revolutionized how people think about the salary cap, hockey and Toronto Maple Leafs. He's already the best GM in hockey and the Leafs are probably the NHL's best team.

Looool.

You're such a troll and a homer, and I'm a leafs fan. I'm well aware that this comment does nothing but feed you either.

Probably the NHL's best team? Look at the standings?

You're just a glorified version of UG who somehow has a soapbox to blither from.

It is known league-wide that the Leafs have many miles to go before they are taken seriously. They certainly have the top-end offensive talent part taken care of, but there are so many other parts involved. Using half of the cap on 4 players will make it difficult to address all roster needs. The D and goal-tending have not inspired a lot of confidence that a long post-season run is in the offing. Despite his tough, structure-based approach, Babcock has still been unable to help them find the defensive zone with any consistency. but, yes, apart from those shortcomings, they are the best team in the league...
