Peter Tessier: Digestion Problems: Jets edition The Jets dropped a turkey on Sunday how do the rebound after Thanksgiving indigestion?

Well one positive you highlighted Peter was that we are not taking as many penalties as last year.

I would think this is due to Byfuglien, Trouba and Myers no longer being here. All three were synonymous with taking ill-timed stick infractions. Byfuglien was the worst out of the three.

Also trying Lowry at 2C?

C'mon Peter call the problem what it is. This team cannot score without Scheifele on the ice and you and your twitter folks think that Lowry is the key. I am speechless.

I think it will be a pretty defensive game tonight. Arizona doesn't allow a lot of goals.
Guys to watch on each team.....Gustafsson on the Jets. Connor Garland on Arizona. As most of you might remeber Garland was quite the scoring machine in the QMJHL for Moncton.....but not quite as good in the AHL.

Jets win 3-2

Don't blame the players on the Jets defense because last season with the Jets much superior d-men the lack of a defensive system led to the team being hemmed in their own zone and giving up 35+ shots per game, just like this season. Who's to blame?

Bitetto out. Now what do we do?

Well...the good was that David Gustafsson looked quite good for his first game...strong in the corners, big and fast...although typical PoMo he only saw a few minutes.

The bad is the fact our defence cannot get out of our own zone...period.

Also our pk sure is missing Tanev and our pp is lost again.

No physicality at all and once the Yotes realized this, they took liberties all over the ice.

This is going to be a very long season if we don't sort this out...

I believe in Chevy's 20 year "draft and develop" strategy. Though we have only had 2 defensemen that we have drafted ever play 82 games, I believe this is the year that we get multiple drafted defensemen play 70 games plus. Its time to bring up the two other guys we have drafted and developed in Logan Stanley and Sami Niku.

On another note how many goals 5v5 did we score last night? Out of the ones we scored, how many did Scheifele help create?

This team which has invested close to 24 million in Wheeler, Laine, Connor and Ehlers; could do better by trading away one, if not two away to get a legit Center.

Yes. A few things were quite apparent last night. Yes, Gustafsson will be a good hockey player for a long time with the Jets , might be now but certainly later. Didn't miss Letestu one bit.

Also, There is a massive difference between shorty Pionk on the right point on the second unit vs Myers. Myers had the better shot , especially the close-in wrister, was much more mobile, and most of all his reach and height kept the puck in. Pionk is a decent acquisition but is just to short for that particular role. The puck constantly goes up and out over his head on plays that Myers was reaching up and almost always stopping. We miss that same reach on the PK as well.

Also Tanev. Correct in that he was our version of Grabner. We could really use another player like him on the PK.

Connor Garland looked awesome out there. A threat every time he touched the puck. He had a slow start to his NHL career in the last two years but he sure looks like a winner now.

Thought that Jack Roslovic had a very good game, probably the best Jet, although thought Helle played decent to keep the score close.
Actually Roslovic-Scheifele-Wheeler looked very good in their short time together.

Everyone can look at our D issues or guys like Letestu and Bourque cause they are easy prey and Ultimate can rant on and on about centers behind 55. But why is no one critiquing 55 and 26!!!!

Shiefele has zero effort in our end, and for all the goals we score that he’s on the ice for that ultimate likes to point out he’s on the ice for an equal amount against!!

Lowry is not scoring and not being scored against, so what’s the difference???

Nothing!! In the end the difference right now between Lowry and Shiefele is nothing !!! Neither one is helping or hurting more than other cause one scores and gets scored on as much and the other does neither

The problem is our coach and systems!!! Period!!

Chew on that for a while

You guys have got to return to reality. Tanev had little effect on the PK.
Jets rank in PK since Maurice was coach

2014-15 13th
2015-16 24th
2016-17 26th
2017-18 9th

So we should trade Lowry for McDavid?

Seems even 2018-19 GF% Lowry 50.85% McDavid 50.66%

As critical as I am of Maurice and certain players, the reality is that this is Chevy's vision and his masterpiece alone. Chevy has been given a very long leash and he took us here. He has not made 1 single long-term pro-active trade to improve this team; they have all been re-active when his hand has been forced. You could see the situation on defence coming for about 2-3 years now, the 2C spot has not been properly addressed in forever and the contracts he has dished out to our goalies have been terrible. This is a non-playoff team with no real upward trajectory in sight. Chevy makes the decisions on players and coaches, he alone is responsible for this mess. Its time for Chipman to grow a pair and make a change.

I guess we should take Scheifele off of the power play and give those minutes to Lowry. Apparently there is lots of untapped potential there!

Did 26, 55 and 29 play 90% of all PP time last night and all season so far? Does this front 3 of 29, 55, and 26 have to play all 2 minutes of each PP?

Roslovic finally made it out there on the PP when Laine got cut but the #2 PP should get a look once in awhile.

Who is on the # 2 PP unit? I have no idea who is because 55, 26 and 29 are out there for 2 mins for every PP.

Yeah, i have to completely agree with this. Outside of Buff, chevy had to know he was losing myers, trouba and others this year yet there is basically zero NHL ready defensemen in the system to fill in any rolls. I see that as a huge miss

Its the coach that deploys the players. If players are deciding by themselves who goes out, than we definitely need a new coach. Maurice has clearly lost the room.

So you really missed the point I was making. Never mind then, keep talking about all the goals we score while 55 is on the ice and keep turning a blind eye to all the ones we allow while he’s on to

I agree, they absolutely shouldn’t be on the ice for the whole pp, did you also catch wheeler staying in for an entire pk only to be so gassed he literally stood there and watched the Zona D carry the puck right past him down Main Street, take his time and pick his spot while wheeler stood hunched over gasping for air.

Time for 27 to replace 26 on top PP

It’s time Maurice, we have been a 500 team since January 17th last season, and that’s with all the departed D!!!

55&26 are not helping this team win, they are helping their individual stats but not helping the team, what’s more important??????

And if Buff is coming back the D should be this;

Morrisey / Poolman or pionk
Niku / buff
Kulikov/ Poolman or Pionk
