Time for a change. If they don't want to axe Hynes just yet then Nasserdine should be replaced.

Also, they should consider bringing in a defensemen. Maybe a trade for Pysyk He's not great but he's better than Mueller, Carrick, or Tennyson. They need a stay at home D. And if it gets rid of Wood, all the better. If they aren't going to do that then what about bringing up Colton White and giving him a few games. At least he's left handed. It's not like anyone would claim Carrick, Mueller or Tennyson off waivers, and if they did who cares.

Is Hughes playing as the 3rd line C? If so that's a pretty bad mistake.

I'm shocked this team is so bad. The D is just completely indefensible. 6 games in and we have two EPIC collapses between Winnipeg and Florida. The Philly and Buffalo games were a complete goat (frank). The Edmonton game was competitive but still they took it in the bum.

I'd like to hear one good reason Nesreddine should be our defensive coordinator over Scott Stevens? I mean this system is a complete disaster.

Yeah, that's the problem.... Thanks.

We'll move him to 4th Line winger and get this trolley back on the tracks ASAP.

How much longer can you let this train go off the rails? What is it going to take to make a massive change? And I'm not talking about a couple of changes to the lineup/roster. In fact, while we are on the subject, the fact that Zacha (who was the best player on the ice yesterday), was benched only a couple of games prior for the likes of Hayden and Rooney is just another reason why this guy deserves to be gone.

Make the change NOW - in the same time it will take this team to right the ship, is the same time it will take to acclimate with a new coaching staff/system.

I don't need a Devils retread (Stevens, Gomez, Brylin, etc). I don't need a Penguins retread (Blysma) - I just want a competent coach with experience who can handle the amount of talent we now have.

The time is now!!!

How long is Nico gone for?

I still think Hynes should stay, but we need a fresh pair of eyes for the PP and D. Robinson was great for the PP and Scotty is waiting.

I think Hynes should have Wood shadow the top players, like Madden used to. Tell him dont worry about scoring, hitting, just cause Havok for the McDavids. I think this would help a ton.

Stevens isn’t a retread. I’m usually against ex-players but he has flat out fine a great job for us in the past and for the Wild running the defense. I’m not saying make him head coach because I think you need an established guy like Sutter or Boucher or Hitchcock.

I agree - I was just saying I want anyone with experience and does not necessarily need to have ties to either organization (Devils or Penguins).

I really don't know where they go from here. The same problems that have always been there are still there. Can't clear their crease, can't clear their zone, can't get in clean. Hynes is just unable to get these guys playing a full 60 minutes. They can talk about not executing as much as they want but that has been the justification for years now. If they have to be playing at 100% every minute of every game or they get caved in, how is that a recipe for sustained success? There are going to be some nights where they don't have their A game. I don't see how having these guys come out and play with a home run or bust strategy leads to anything else but the results they have been getting for years, regardless of the personnel.

There is still time to get back on track, but if Hynes can't turn this around he needs to go, full stop. At the very least this is just proving that he is unable to adapt when things go wrong.

Their compete level and energy isn’t there and that’s on the coaching staff maybe this team is lacking in leadership idk but IMO it’s not the talent because the talent is there they played more competitive at the end of last season when their roster was comprised of 50% AHL players

I think if they look rough (and especially if they lose) the next two games, that could be when Hynes goes. Almost a full week after Saturday until the next game, if you're going to do an early season coaching change that's the time to do it. If they are win-less in 8 by then it would seem to be reasonable.

Perhaps a big rivalry game Thursday is what this team needs to actually show up for 60 minutes.

Subban and Severson looked terrible. I lost count of the number of foot races, board battle, and intercepted passes those two were part of. The culmination of Subban’s day was when he nearly crushed palms throat with that wildly inaccurate spot and then reached the other way to takeanother minor, all in the same shift.

Score with 5 minutes left in the second, 4-1 Devils.

Final score, 5-4 Rangers in OT. Kakko completely undresses Hughes for a highlight real OT winner, to complete his hat trick.

Doomed!

I could not agree more this is a bigger problem than just Hynes, Assistant coaches have been and are at fault. Nasredine is a absolute mess. Would love to see Scott Stevens back, but does he want the job? Rick Kowalsky? as much of a popular decision to bring him up was Im afraid its not working out. Our PP is just bad. Lets face it Hynes may need to go but there are a lot of changes needed on the coaching side and there is no quick fix sadly..

Hynes is Hynes, but the Devils defence is terrible. Changing the coach won't change some of the players on this team who are gum plugs, or the players on this defence who are a little less than good enough to be NHL players (Mueller, Carrick).

And man does Severson need a babysitter. Why don't they just make him a winger?

Yes, but when the GM changed, a lot of the players changed, too.

Since I know this on the top of my head, look at the amount of players who've played a game last year versus the year before. That list was drastically shortened: why? Because Lou wouldn't accept non-players in his line-up for developmental reasons. He wanted nothing but NHL players on there.

So basically, to get this drastic change in defence, NJ needs a GM that correctly identifies who the gum plugs are and gets them off the team, and then the team picks up players that'll have the fans scratching their heads, but will bring results.

On another note: I'm glad to see Zacha has gotten off to a good start this year. Hopefully a taste of things to come.

Obviously Barry Trotz is one of the best coaches in hockey, it's just that is there a quality coach out there right now who will turn this team around.
