He's the large format version of Nail Yakapov.

Why not? It cant hurt to give him a shot, but he doesn't appear to have a higher upside than Nygard who could be a good fit in the top 6, or Jurco. |

He has some nice highlights, can make a pass and has a lethal wrister from the top of the circles. |

|
First impressions from some clips: He seems to have the puck on his stick for a bit too long for me to think his shot will translate well, but if he gets time, boy can he wire it Straight up beating goalies with his wrister from the top of the circles or further!
Can't say I can see anything else about him that stands out, but we'll see soon, I guess. |

My impression is the same, he is a fairly big body though so I imagine its not terribly easy to get the puck off of him. If we can get 2 good shooters on RNHs line that can be a huge help to him. |

I don't know that I think having two shooters with him will translate to results, especially when one shooter is a North American and the other is noted for poor defensive habits. I'd be open to giving it a shot but, barring quick and significant returns, I'd be more inclined to just run with Benson or Khaira there to give them time to develop chemistry. |

Fair, we know what we are getting with khaira though, hes not going to be electric every game. I guess if the russian comes in and looks like hot fire, give him a chance otherwise give it to the guys we have in our system. |

Hopefully this is an indication that the organization noticed Sam Gagner looked/is rediculously slow, should never be seriously considered for a top 6 role in today's NHL, and that they certainly need someone better for the top 6. |

Yeah, hopefully. Not only that he's slow but also that he's not good for defensive results; particularly not with Nuge. |

Oilers sent 6 down to Bakersfield, but there are still too many AHL caliber forwards on the roster. The coaching staff needs to make some decisions on the forward group so they can get a better assessment of their bottom 6-(7) and start putting lines together for the last 2 pre-season games.
After watching last nights game, there are a few more easy cuts to make. I know it has only been 2 pre-season games, but Currie, Malone, Hebig, Gambardella, and Cave haven't done enough to separate themselves from rest. Management knows what they are getting with these guys. Time to trim the roster further so they can get a better look at the stronger options. |

Solid pickup...give him a chance see what he can do with our elite centers..like that second line if he joins Neal and nuge...two big strong wingers for nuge to dish to...Holland been doing some fine work so far... |

Curious to see if Russell and McLeod can keep it up and force their way into the bottom-6. Russell is competing with a player with a similar skillset (Chiasson) but McLeod is kinda a stone alone. High-end speed with the skillset to play in the bottom-6 and lord knows we could use a Marchant/Cogliano to play behind McDavid and Draisaitl. |

Would be nice to have a Russell on the roster that I could tolerate. |

I think if we are running Nuge and Neal on a line we need a more defensively responsible forward joining them. |

Burdasov also led the K in penalty minutes last year.
Also, Oilers cut:
Desharnais
Esposito
Kulevich
Safin
Beau Starrett
And Nolan Vesey
So they only have about 200 left in camp. |

The penalty minutes is misleading. He received 54 minutes for an incident involving a ref and a water bottle and 2 25 minute calls on heavy hits |

An iffy European who might or might not make it in the NHL and maybe speaks English or not I haven’t bothered to look it up BUT it would appear that we have indeed replaced Puju |

This is a great chess move by Holland. I believe this is to motivate the other guys to work a bit harder in preseason and notice that they aren't guaranteed anything. the timing seems perfect and besides, what do the oilers have to lose; the young guys work harder and Burdasov has to bust his @ss to get a spot...if he pulls the "Lazy" Russian, he's gone and the oilers lose nothing, but gain a higher work ethic from the kids/euro imports, to really secure a spot instead of being more easily gifted a spot due to the lack of depth on the wings. GO OIL!!!! |

Big money, but he's probably worth that long term. He's worth that if only to ensure the fanbase that the days of letting their best players walk are over. At least for appearances. |
