Tyler Cameron: Training Camp Notes
The Blackhawks play their first preseason game tonight vs. Washington. They are on the road today… and tomorrow (vs. Detroit) and then back home for their 3rd game in 3 nights (vs. Detroit again).

My early takeaways from these lines/pairings are this:

Does anyone know if the players opted out yesterday?

I respond: If this is line 3 come October 4, then Shaw is right wing with Strome and AdB?

Yep. Or LW with Toews and Kane.

Everyone played who was healthy.

The vets left mid-way during the scrimmage. They are going to be taking it easy most of the preseason until the last couple of games.

How did Wedin look? Interesting he got to play with Toews also. Is he a sleeper to make the team?

I think I will be able to watch on NHL Game Centre.

I will keep you posted if I see the stream or TV info anywhere else.

He looked good. I would like to see him in a couple preseason games.

I think it's definitely an option for him to make the team. If he does though, I see him as a bottom 6 / extra F.

It might be best for him to go to Rockford to get a lot of playing time as he continues to get use to the NA ice.

I did hear Elliott Friedman say that Monday at midnight is the official deadline. It being, of course, an official work day. Makes some sense on its face, I guess.

Picking a nit ... Maatta is Finnish - not Swedish.

It was very nice to see our Hawks in a game - even a scrimmage.

I think he was referring to the CBA. I believe they have until tonight to opt out early.

Sounds good. It's pre-season so not always easy to tell what you have, but hey it's hockey.

Spot on Tyler. I felt the same about the Saad-Kampf-Kubalik line, but I think in the long run Kampf might slot differently and jury will be out on where Kubalik lands.

Hello, Wolfie. What are your thoughts for the season?
- mohel

Cautiously optimistic!!!

-the division is BRUTAL, Hawks could have a fine season and still end up 5th
-Depth-Hawks appear to have depth all over the place, except for maybe center.
-The Blueline? How will Maata and DeHann fit in? If they give the Hawks what we lacked last year (skill from blue line back) I think the Hawks could add 6 or so wins to last years totals, which puts us into the post season
-Will Strome make another step up this year? His first year with us was awesome. I want to see him step up even more and become a 1A center. If so, that would give the Hawks two ELITE lines. And if we are planning on Shaw and Saad on Line 3, that is pretty impressive as well.
-Tending. Looks locked down. I am still believer that I want Crow in the nets if/when post season happens, PERIOD.
-Another year in the system should help cohesiveness.
-That said not sure guys like Maata and Seabrook are cut out for man to man style hockey, but lets see how they play. Appears they may be a pair this year. If nothing else that is two very smart hockey players even if a bit slow a foot.
-Superstars. The Hawks still boast a couple of the games best players, in their prime and some young stars on the rise.
-X-factor-Keith. Is he on decline? Dunno, but if we get a rejuvenated #2 and everything else comes together there could potentially be a run in them.

My "gut" tells me middling in the central, but a post season berth. At that point, it's a crap shoot, but with 88, 2, 19, and 50 leading the charge I sure wouldn't bet against them.

Generally agree. Hopefully a bounceback year for our guy Seabrook, now that he's not a babysitter. I also think an improved PK is key to rising in the standings. Stan has added a few guys to help there. We'll see how it works.

Predicting the outcome of the year is tough. I suspect the difference between 2 and 6 in the division won't be much.

As far as Stan's moves, I actually have liked most of them, except for Maata. Though I'll give him a benefit of the doubt given he's still young and showed immense potential his rookie season.

I LOVE getting CDH, mixed feelings on Nylander, not sure why that trade was made honestly, but it's a good "buy low" move Stan seems to have a bit of skills for.

Despite my concern at center, I am shedding no tears seeing Anisimov moved.

Lehner was an ace move!!! Hawks probably have two of the 10 best goalies in the NHL on their roster.

I was not a fan of the draft personally despite the hype, but I also know that the draft is pot luck and I'll defer to the organization on Dach.

Yes, the PK is a huge thing I failed to mention and with adding the goalie and a couple sturdy defensive d-men there is no way this CAN"T improve.

I so want Seabs to find a fit and get a solid place in helping this team win. He does so much that's not ice related to help the team win, but he HAS to be better on the ice than his last couple years. He's a still useful PP QB with his shot and if having an experienced guy with him will help him (not sure I totally buy that, but Ill let it play out) then I'd love to see 7 rise from the ashes, because many of us, myself included, have written his epitaph at least once before. The dude is too much of a warrior and too important to the Hawks glory years to just put him to pasture, at least I hope.

Yep, thanks for this up to the minute update. Unless I'm way off base, I'm thinking the players might walk away. Just a bad hunch.
