I'm warming to it. He is a big dude with some skill. Borderline 3rd liner tho, my overreaction had more to do with using Heinen as a piece for a high skill wing.
All good, confident Nick Better than his bro. That part is a small bit awkward too - gforce
Pretty much my thoughts. Its grown on me. I think its obvious Heinen's value not as high as we hoped as well. Too much regression. |

I'll say this, for our team I'd rather have Ritchie than Pageau. At least he isn't frog headed |

Geeze ... Well that sucked.
I guess one good thing is that we don’t have to watch Heinen on the powerplay anymore 👍 |

We'll, can't say we didn't get bigger and tougher for the playoffs.
A bit disappointing but Trocheck was the most talented player moved so wtf ya gonna do. |

So overall, we shed a bunch of salary, got Kase to play on Krejci’s wing, and Ritchie 2.0 to take Heinen’s spot adding size in the process.
Not bad ... |

Zucker, Coleman and Trocheck are guys who would've been nice to have imo but I'm not going to freak about it.
We do have a good bit of unused cap now which isn't great. Surprised Palmieri didn't go considering where they are and what he could have fetched. Wonder if there was a starediwn and nobody blinked. |

Tampa trading two firsts and a real good prospect for Coleman and Goodrow is pretty bad. I thought they were at least gonna be dumping that Gourde contract to SJ or something. |

"That's what I do," said Ritchie. "I drive to the net and win puck battles and hopefully can bring in a few wins down and around the net. Hopefully I can help the team here and I'm going to take pride in playing that big game, winning battles, playing physical and driving to the net for sure."
Sounds like he gets it. Hopefully he can execute |

Leads the league in PIM’s per TOI. Hopefully he doesn’t hurt us in that department. |

What do you all think after a couple days?
Always said I should stand by initial instincts, and that was that the Heinen trade was crap. Backed off it I suppose cuz I didn't want to sound whiny about losing Heinen and am hopeful about Ritchie. Hope to hell he is a force here on the 3rd and really brings it because that's all he can do to be more valuable than DH.
Kase deal is clearly a big win. JS correct in saying it's really repairing a colossal fck up, but for right now it is a nice win. Hope he reaches his potential here and stays healthy and makes it a home run deal.
Right now I'd call it a 1 out of 2. Good thing is the 'win' trade can't really go south, can only get better with age. 2nd deal, we'll see.
Overall a small bit disappointed we didn't get a great player. Can't help wondering what we could've done if he didn't have to dump a bad salary. Taking that out he did pretty well, give it a B. For now😁
I know, thanks for the update. |

Agreed. Kase deal while it was the result of needing to correct a previous (frank)up that has crippled the team as far as cap flexibility for years now, has the potential to be a home run. We’ll see. Getting 3/4 of the Backes contract off the books is a win in and of itself, and if Kase turns out to be the ‘hidden gem’ people say he’s capable of being, then it’s a grand slam.
Heinen deal is meh ... If Lionel can contribute physically and open up room for Balls and Bjork out there, that’s more than Heinen ever did on that line. If not, no big deal ... Providence awaits. I would have liked to see Heinen go as part of a bigger deal, but at this point happy that about the cap savings as he was pretty damn useless.
Now go get a Krug extension done. I think next season, Freddy, Senyshyn, Studnicka, Vaak, maybe even Zboril will all be pushing for full time NHL roles, so not really too concerned with the latest Ritchie. Easy enough to bury in Providence worst case scenario.
Cehlarik should be here now by the way, in case anyone was wondering how I feel about him

I'm all for call-ups for experience and giving some regulars a breather here. Lots of guys to cycle in and hopefully still around 40-45 games left. Do it now. Cuts down on chances of key injuries too.
