Trade him for a treasure trove of assets.
There's a (frank) ton of teams that have won the Cup without Mitch on their roster. - walshyleafsfan
couple of things with trading him.
the trades I have seen people throw out, are not enough for Marner imo.
And there is another problem. who wants him if they have to pay his crazy ask |

The Preds just got out from the P.K Subban contract, they'll be ok. With Weber, I have a feeling he will be traded back to Nashville, when he is ready to retire and will go on LTIR. - PatC80
Yeah I’m sure they’ll be fine, just they have some bad deals on the books too. Interesting to see what Josi gets |

You know how some people say "it only takes one GM"? I'm glad that's not the case for Marner.. |

Yesterday the speculation was we were waiting until 9/15, but 24 hours later it’s Mitch the female dog again?
I suspect some Bipolar people log in here a lot.

Agreed.. The Johansen deal was bad, but I think it will look better in a few years when other players are getting over $11-$12M per |

I have a feeling that Nashville will receive an exemption on the Weber deal. Wedgie has, on more than on occasion, noted that it's a complete farce that Nashville be held accountable for a contract that Philadelphia drew up. Their option was to not match it and lose their star defenseman, or match it and later - without expectation - be penalized by the league for a back-diving contract that they had no part in creating.
In all seriousness, they should probably seek public application for that now so that there's no public outrage over it later. |

Absolutely. No one trusts Dreger.
But Friedman has some merit. Mirtle has more merit, and Bobby Mac is the MacDaddy of merit.
When they all come out and echo this, it's no longer Dreger the Ferris muppet. |

Offersheet compensation for 7x 10.55 is 2 1sts, 2nd, 3rd.
Judging by McKensie's messaging that leafs offered a long term deal 'in the 11mln universe', that's about what leafs offered.
Marner can get that salary with 3-5 teams in league.
It's not about the AAV - it's about the appreciation by leafs and commitment which is shown by a new contract offer.
Perfectly reasonable by Marner to look for a 11.5+ deal on 8 years.
Leafs probably still lowballing him with the offer around 10.5per/7y.
Again - it's not about the money, it's about signaling that the team appreciates him as a key player.
The signal should have been to first sign him and then get johnsson and kapanen done. Leafs got their priorities wrong. - MaximusAurelius
How is a lofty over payment a lowball offer? |

That's a good problem ...for the Leafs. If some team values him at 5 x 11.6 and sees him as one of the top 5 players in the game then good ...they'll pony up a very nice package. |

Ya there's some of that ..but I think most are discussing it in a "if true" kind of way. If he's going to die on the "I want 5 x 11.65" hill then it is what it is and we move on.
I have some hope (from the history of his agent) that this is a lot of smoke and mirrors and puffery and that at some point a few weeks from now he'll reduce his demands (again, if his reported demands are even true). |
