So nothing's going to happen. Player is absolved, it's his mean old agent who's causing the holdout. That's a load of crap. If Mitch called his agent up and said "I think I can put together a budget for the next 7 years of my life on 11 million a year it would be done.

This seems to be a trend with young players, they act like the agent will figure everything out and they'll just sign. The reality is that it's their career, and their future, and the agent works for them.

The agent is there for the players best interests for sure, however the player knows the offers on the table and at the end of the day they have the final say.

But tell said NHL Player thanks.

yeah but that's only like a paltry $5.5 mln after taxes. What's he supposed to do, slum it?

At the end of the day....the question is what does he want and how long is he willing to drag it on! If he's feeling indifferent to what his agent's (and possibly his dad's) demands for him are, he should definitely speak up, if he driving a hard line in the sand with contractual demands, then he needs to be prepared to sit for a while. Someone is feeding Dreger a lot of noise, and the erratic Leaf fans are getting soured on him! If he wants an end to the noise, he has to tell his agent or dad to shut up!

But why should he? He's better than Matthews, and he (rightly) thinks he should be compensated as such

I may have reported this post by accident. Then I read what you said, and well, as Bob Ross would say, it's a happy little accident.

“A former player”

I once played a game of go fish.

Am I a former player?

A former Lacrosse player? Ringette player?
You certainly did not say NHL player...
and if that isn't obviously on purpose - I don't know what it...

No former NHL player will text you or give two $h..ts about Marner's contract.

It's obvious that all these rfa's will sign with Seatle. Let's collectively accept it and move on.

Seriously though...Agents/players seem to be catching on that the internet eats this stuff up. All you need is a guy on speed dial like Dreger who will report anything without any care for integrity, and you can really get any narrative out there you want. Panarin admitted to putting false Florida rumours out there as a bargaining chip...this is going to become more and more prevalent.
