He hasn't suited up for a single game with the Hawks and you already think he is a hindrance? He has a $3.2 hit. It really is not that bad. He's actually one of the guys I'm really interested in seeing. - Chunk
Smith is better then perlini. Getting out of Ottawa has to feel great of he plays like he did his first couple years ot will be worth it |

Players like Smith - whom is paid handsomely per his role - and other bottom line "type" players are apt to experience disillusionment when their salary and job is threatened due to irresponsible GM's throwing monopoly money at free agents
The Marner pay out could prove to become a sticky situation. Payout over $11 mill per season is too much given salary cap constraint. |

I was in the air - we had just taken off on a flight to Tucson so we could visit our Company's mequila in Nogales, Mexico. They brought us down in Quad Cities - we rented a car and drove back to Chicago.
But - had it been a couple of hours later - we'd have been in Mexico when the planes hit the towers - who knows how long it would have taken to get back into the US. - StLBravesFan
I was on day 95 of a 97 day deployment and was having a cup of coffee outside when a guy came out and asked if I heard some idiot flew a plane into the world trade center. We joked about how can you not see something that big. Later we heard about the second tower and Pentagon and we were diverted out for homeland defense for 3 months. I never saw the footage until December that year and my wife received a call saying I was ok but wasn't coming home soon.

Don't know if you ever saw the All Star game footage of the audience at the 1991 NHL All Star game in Chicago. Definetely a showing of patriotism and support of our troops
This was not "911.". It was reaction to the Sadam Hussein and the weapons never found. It was really about oil interests of this country . But there were humane attocities previously by Hussein and Dessert Storm received a call of support from Americans |

Prepare to feel old everybody. I was 6 when the Towers went down. I remember just having eaten lunch & my first grade teacher frantically coming in with a television on a cart. I was like "no more books, it's movie time." She went on to explain that bad people took control of a plane & crashed it into a building out in New York. I had no idea where that was, at the time. I just remember my teacher being worried, so I was worried. We watched the news for a long time that day.
Oh, & thank you for your service! |

Way to read the obvious. Proof you cannot have an adult conversation with children. - powerenforcer
This response wasn't exactly adult like.
Also, not a good idea to generalize. Socialists or Liberals haven't all forgotten 911 or "hate America" anymore than all Conservatives are illiterate, racist old white men. Most people see the good, and bad, on either side of the political spectrum and most Americans are patriotic and love their country regardless of who they vote for.

Right on, Murph. Caggiula can bring that grit and physicality as well although I do worry if his style of play will catch up to him in terms of injuries.
Even though it's preferred they just stick to their games, we also know Toews and DeBrincat push back when the going gets rough.
On the blueline, besides Murphy, nobody is a bruiser or fighter but the D corps as a collective unit brings size and muscle. Keith, Gustafsson, and de Haan are in the 6'1" range yet by no means are the weakest. Lots of snarl from Keith and even Gustafsson has shown a mean streak if push comes to shove. - AEL_Fox
All valid points! Let's just hope Caggiula stays away from our boy Byfuglien this year...it's never fun to watch someone get ragdolled unless it were perhaps Wilson, Lapierre, or Marchand |

Corey P had some prospect ratings:
Dach #9
Boquist # 25
Nylander #75
Kubalik #82
Mitchell # 92
he mention that the top 3 have high celings but have some pretty big holes in there game. Kubalik and Mitchell he feels will be good players but not top tier guys. IE good all around players but not really having a elite skill. |

i think that can be said about MOST prospects...holes in their game...for that matter most NHLers have holes in their games.

Hawks at 95-100 points. Calling it now. Average PK plus very very good goal tending gets them those extra points. |

And into the playoffs. I think so but I’m a long time Kool Aid drinker.
I read that Dom Leswhatever’s piece in the Athletic and think he’s way off on a much more rounded lineup this season. |

Think they only had one or two last year with Boqvist again somewhere in the 20’s and Jokiharju around a 100 IIRC.
I do find it odd that in the Hawk rankings Dach was listed as “High End”, and in this piece by the same writer he’s “Elite/High End” bubble. Kind of odd...a bit inconsistent for sure.
Pronman’s organizational prospect ranking of #10 for the Hawks was echoed this morning with ESPN’s #9 ranking. |

Everything I hear is he's way off on Mitchell. Some would say our top defensive prospect.

I get that analytics have a place as a piece of the overall analysis pie, but they lose me with the whole expected goals for and against nonsense (especially for a team with so many new players that haven't played together yet). |

And how will Rogers’ experience impact the new US rights negotiations, which will be happening in two years (I think)?
The league and PA are looking to have dramatically increased rights fees - will Bettman be able to generate a market competition - will the league have enough leverage to be able to spread the rights out to more than one network (as all of the other three national spirts do)?
Stay tuned.... |

If we hear everyone rate a particular player in the same spot, then maybe you can feel it may be about right. But writers doubtfully spend a lot of time watching tape and are not bird dogs (scouts). How many sources did they reference and i mean actually spoke to!
No sir......tbeir craft imcludes designing a story
The story has a pre-planed way they want to come across. They come up with the precise wording. They tinker with whom to put in categories. They may even move some names to a category or rank number just to develop talking points and fan the flames of debate. They are after all selling a story so there meeds to be some ways to gain your interest with their analysis.
I am sure that Tyler and the Breadman had some journalistic training in this part of the craft. |
