The longer you live, the more events like that there will be, for better or worse.

For me:

JFK, RFK, and MLK assassinations. (Altho the RFK event happened while I was asleep, I recall clearly hearing about it on the radio when I awoke the next morning.)
Man on the Moon.
9/11.

- StLBravesFan

I remember the moon landing quite clearly too, huddled around the old black and white RCA. But then I came to realize we were bamboozled as the landing had really been staged in a warehouse.

I was living in Boston 18 years ago. The impact in the northeast was like a crushing weight that wouldn’t go away. Always remember.

He hasn't suited up for a single game with the Hawks and you already think he is a hindrance? He has a $3.2 hit. It really is not that bad. He's actually one of the guys I'm really interested in seeing.
- Chunk

Agreed. Let's see what he does after leaving the hell-hole that is the Ottawa Senators.

The Hawks could have a terrific season and still finish 4th in the division. the Central is tough.

Teaching about it today to my 7th and 8th Grade classes. Hard to believe these kids were not even alive when 9/11/01 occurred. Time flies, but that date is so etched in my brain like yesterday, as I can tell you exactly what I was doing that day like it was yesterday. I have taught about 9/11 every every year since the terrorist attacks happened. Never Forget is right, a day that changed the United States forever!!

St. Louis suffers the Cup hangover. Not sold on Dallas. And think the Jets take a step backward.

Tyler thanks for the great recap of our young prospects.

Just curious on your thinking in regards to Perlini skating alongside a rookie (dach) ?

Has anyone read or heard any news regarding DE HAAN injury and recovery update ?

I see Chicago finishing either 1st or 2nd in the division .

Chicago
Dallas
Colorado
Nashville
Winnipeg
St Louis
Minnesota

Chicago's off season moves re-energizes the team as a whole and they outperform is my opinion.

Although I like the young avs I still think they end up in 3rd
St Louis regresses
Nashville still has a solid defense and pekka
Winnipeg has a lot of talent still and the loss of trouba might not be as bad as we believe I think his character was a issue in the lockeroom ( distraction )
Dallas with pavelski solidifies their 2nd line
Minnesota dumpster diving

Smith makes their bottom 6 better instantly. I am happy with the addition of him into this lineup.

I know you didn't ask me, but I think Perlini is simply a placeholder right now to see how guys like Kubalik, Sikura, Wedin, Nylander and even Dach play out in the preseason.

My guess is that if Nylander is equal to Perlini, then he's ahead. They know what they have in Perlini. They are still thinking they can turn Nylander around, so that's my 2 cents.

I like how Stan has improved the bottom 6 . Just curious do you think kampf becomes the odd man out ?

I appreciate the knowledge shared . In your opinion where does Nylander and Saarela compare ? Pros / cons who has a higher ceiling and etc?

Tyler, I agree with your order, with one big exception... take COL off the top, and put them in the group with CHI and WIN. I think they need one more year because of their youth.

I have the Central in 4 groups:
1-2: STL and DAL
3: NAS
4-6: CHI, COL and WIN
7: MIN

If you made me choose an order, I would go
DAL
STL
NAS
COL
CHI
WIN
MIN

But I really think 4-6 will be a dogfight to the end to see who gets the 2 wildcard spots.

Of the veteran forward additions not named Shaw since he's a former Hawk, I think Smith will have the biggest impact with his grit, leadership, defense, and experience.

On defense, de Haan is my pick for best new veteran addition over Maatta but that's not to say Maatta's contributions will be junk. Collectively they will help to stabilize the back end to even out the load especially for Keith and Seabrook.

99.9% certain that Kampf will not be the odd one out. Colliton loves him some Kampf. He's a good player, too. Solid defensively, physically strong, and willing to make the small plays to help the team compete.

The 4th line is likely a rotation of Kampf centering Caggiula, Smith, and Carpenter. If injuries occur, Highmore could see some time there.

I do not know Tyler where you see most of outside analysts pegging Blackhawks to be wild card in playoffs. Most independent non-Blackhawks analysts (NHL, ESPN, etc) peg them outside of top 16, or outside of top 5 in Central, or they think that Arizona will be 8th Western seed. There is also irrational exuberance here that Blackhawks significantly improved over summer while other analysts I have read have them standing pat. Sometimes I think the difference if how new folks on the team are first enthusiastically welcome (Maata,DeHaan, Smith) , till the first 20 games, then the reality will set in.
I hope for the best for Hawks but feel this will be another sideway season instead of much needed shakeout on top.
My prediction: Central: Stars Nashville Avs Blues
Pacific: Vegas Flames Stars Arizona

I will be very happy to be wrong and Hawks get in, especially if they kick Blues out in process. It will be first round and out but still fun.

Hard to say to be honest. Nylander has the most potential but Saarela has been the stronger player (offensively at least) in the AHL the past few seasons. Both are horrible without the puck so if either are to earn a spot on the Blackhawks, they really need to improve their play in the other zones and be a factor when the puck isn't on their blade.

With that said, unless they miraculously grow a consistent defensive game this month, I prefer that both continue to play top 6 minutes in Rockford.

My preference is that the competition for the open forward spots on the big club be amongst those who can play a 200 foot game and bring an unwavering compete level. IMO, that's Sikura, Kubalik, and Highmore.

Perlini is almost for certain to be on the roster even though his consistency and compete level are still questionable.

I think you are correct in saying those 6 teams are much better than the Wild. I think those 6 could come up in just about any order. All of them with strengths and weaknesses and nothing that separates them by large amounts from the pack.

Blues are for the most part unchanged from last season. That may be good, may be bad. Cup Hangover is real, plus a full season of Binnington will be telling. Is he the real Deal or another goalie flash in the pan?

Last half of the season, the Hawks were 21-14-6 for 48 points. With an arguably better roster, if the Hawks play the same pace they did in the second half, they project our at 96 points, which probably puts them in the playoffs as a wild card

I had just landed in Cincinnati (CVG) when the poop started to hit the fan. Saw UAL175 hit the South Tower live on TV in our Cincinnati Flight Ops office. Spent the next 3 days in Cincy.

Then on the flight back to ORD on the 14th, we got struck by lightning. Great week.
