If I was Provorov, I would bet on myself. Take the short bridge and have a good season and be in a better position to get a big deal next year.

I could never understand young players thinking when it could mess to short bridge deals. If I was Provorov, I’d be signing the longer term deal, even if it’s a mil less than what I think I’m worth. At 6mil plus over a 5-6 year deal, he will never have to worry about money for the rest of his life. If he’s that good, he still has another payday after that contract expires. So he gives up 5mil over 5 years. It won’t make a damn bit of difference in his lifestyle, or taking care of family. On the other hand, if he takes a one or two year bridge deal, and has a serious injury that either slows him down, or ruins his career, he’ll regret it for the rest of his life. Piece of mind has value! It’s a shame some of these players and agents need to be in a d!ck measuring contest! Just plain dumb!

If he takes less than he is worth, every player in his situation gets asked, even expected to do the same, and backlash from fans if they don't. Players might negotiate contracts as individuals, but they set and maintain the market value for contracts as one big team. Sometimes, it's not just about making the safest decision for yourself, it's about making the best decision for the 'team' that is all players.

I seriously doubt the players are thinking of that as they negotiate, however I very much agree that the agents are...the agents want the salaries to keep on increasing at a great pace...the Players want their own salary to increase by a great amount.

As a fan and STM, I'd rather see some stability restored to the sportsworld...but fear that that ship has long sailed.

His responsibility is to himself and his family first! If he had the responsibility to the players union, ask them if they’ll contribute 10 million of THEIR money in the even he gets injured and his career is done or never the same player. I’m not being a d!ck, but that argument doesn’t make sense in the real world. F the agents. Charity begins at home first!

You know what's crazy to me? The fact that MLB players make hundreds of millions of dollars and hockey players only make a fraction of that. As we all know hockey is way more demanding both physically and mentally. These guys bodies take a beating night in and night out. They all deserve way more than they are making

What players make in a sport is all relative to what the teams/league actually makes. When you play 162 games and have far more games on national broadcasting, you have way more revenue coming in.

If the NHL was on more networks with more regularity these players would be making far more money.

I like the deal for both sides.

Provo is a star but last year didn't show it for him. He knows how good he is and if he deserves the money - he can perform like the rest of us and get paid for it. Real world.

The Flyers don't lock him up and could get crushed in arbitration but they won't let it go that far. He is their no. 1 d-man and he is going to get something like 8 and 8. Maybe 8.5 if he can go deep 40 points, at least 10 goals and +10 or more.

Big mistake for the Flyers to do that. They'd be giving up all future leverage.

Good for the Flyers. Bad for Provy. Provorov is truly a 3-4 defenseman who has gotten 1-2 dman minutes because the Flyers D and coaching has been garbage. Sanheim > Provorov

Agree, you don't see a hockey player under contract holding out for more coin. Football is ridiculous!! And look what they make per year compared to a hockey player.

If you believe Sanheim is better than Provy... or think Provy is a 3/4 dman.. than stop watching hockey cause youre clueless
