It has come to the point where players wouldn't want to be named by Tanner because it's obvious he chooses names that are far from the correct response, just to generate conversation/hits/attention.

Too bad for Morgan Reilly... he's really not that bad.

Hedman getting lots of Norris Trophy votes every year must be because he's overrated - not because he's consistently one of the best performing D in the game

Rielly plays in the most over hyped hockey market in the league so surely he's not overrated at all

If you think Morgan Reilly is not good, you should have your seeing eye dog watch hockey with you.

Season ticket holder here in Tampa at Amalie arena. Heddy’s problem is he’s just so soft. Washington just took such advantage of him in the corners. He’s just a gentle giant with the occasional brain fart.

People not seeing him play all the time see the offensive numbers and think WOW!

Yes, overrated.

Tanner's comments here rank right up with him calling Jake Gardiner an elite NHL defenseman.

I believe the best pairing of all time is Tanner / Cloutier

Jake Gardiner is an elite NHL defenseman and anyone who says differently has to completely ignore the last three years where, at 5v5, he had a top ten impact among all defenseman.

I guess you could twist yourself into knots trying to explain away literally every single way in which we have to measure a hockey player's performance, or just accept the truth.

It's worse than that, he said "Jake Gardiner has elite defensive abilities"

James, while I agree that he provides elite offense during the regular season, you'd have to completely be missing every playoff game that he's attended to defend him the way you do.

He is similar in ways to Wade Redden. Great at putting up points in the regular season, and then a total liability after that. I am so glad that Dubas is letting him walk.

Very unlikely to see Rielly and Barrie together. They would be so damn amazing but you really do want a quick puck moving RHD playing with Muzzin.

Rielly and anybody will make an awesome pairing so I think it's best to spread the love around and have two awesome pairings.

If I were Babcock and I had the kind of lineup the Leafs have I would absolutely use some special power lines from time to time.

After a commercial break, start of a period, down a goal or two late in the game:
C Tavares
LW Matthews
RW Marner
D Rielly
D Barrie

WHAT THE (frank) KIND OF LINE IS THAT!

Or not...44th in defence points per game over the past 3 seasons. Average offense, putrid defence. But don't worry,
every single way in which we have to measure a hockey player's performance

says he's elite

Looks like Tanner forgot that Hedman won the Norris when he had the human dumpster fire, Dan Girardi as his main defensive partner. Its easy to see why he thinks Hedman is massively overrated

You guys are so focused on Tanners stupidity you didn’t realize nobody had the right answer.

It’s Hronek and whoever plays with him.

I wouldn't say elite but he's definitely top pairing caliber. If we had money I would gladly pay him $6-$7m on a shortish term deal.

The reason he isn't elite is that the errors he does make are monumental ones. He makes way fewer than he did 3-4 seasons ago but they still happen and those types of errors can't just be counted the same as the average error or missed coverage.

I still love Gardiner. There is a Jake Gardiner fan club page on face book. It's pretty small but good.

Jake Gardiner is elite defensively. His defense is better than his offense. This is not a hot take among anyone remotely interested in hockey analytics, it's an accepted fact.

Explains why he is still unsigned. NHL teams don't want an elite defender.

Former employee at Amalie Arena. Had the pleasure of watching Hedman for 6+ years in person, sober, every Lightning home game.

Can confirm this poster is wrong.

Hedman is possibly the best defenseman in the league depending on where you slot Erik Karlsson. The dude does it all. Tanner lost his damn mind calling him overrated. Morgan Reilly is good but he’s not Hedman good. Eventually the Leafs jerkoff sessions gotta stop. I understand being a homer, but when it gets to the point of ridiculousness, it’s time to shut ‘er down.

It's like you've never actually watched an NHL game at the rink.

Oh, wait, it's exactly that: you've never actually watched an NHL game at the rink.
