Milky on the top line?
Ceci on the top line? - Fakepartofme
not my ideal lineup, but more what is generally expected?
maybe moore instead of mikheyev on that first line with tavares and marner? or johnsson and moore/kapanen with matthews?
i do think mikheyev will get a chance to prove himself as a top6 fw while hyman is not back from injury |

I think Dallas is a pretty good team, but I wouldn’t call them anywhere near a favourite personally. |

Agreed - if they get in though, I think they'll be interesting. If Bishop does anything like he did this playoff run, then watch out because they'll have more balance this year and another year of experience for Heiskanen and a few other young players. |

Yeah they will really rely on Bishop, plus Benn needs to have a better season. |

Most teams heavily rely on their goalie though.

thats true, but Bishop had a crazy good season, and led in sv%, a lot higher than Andersen. and Dallas still only had 93 points.
I wouldnt bet on a repeat season for Bishop, so they may fall a little |

Pavelski will teach them how to win in the Regular Season and fall apart in the Playoffs. |

True, but the only reason they even had a shot in that game 7 vs St Louis was Bishop. Blues were completely dominating. |

I read somewhere that Bishop has the best save percentage in a career of all goalies |

Yeah I see Aberg making the team too.
He’ll be in the slot on the PP2. |

If I was guessing (from what I know today, without benefit of camp), I'd go with:
Johnsson - Matthews - Nylander
Moore - Tavares - Marner
Mikheyev - Kerfoot - Kapanen
Agostino - Spezza - Shore
Rielly - Ceci
Muzzin - Barrie
Gravel - Schmaltz
PP1
Matthews - Tavares - Marner
Johnsson - Barrie
PP2
Kapanen - Kerfoot - Nylander
Spezza - Rielly
PK1
Shore - Marner
Muzzin - Ceci
PK2
Moore - Kapanen
Rielly - Gravel
Hyman returns, and pushes Moore to the 4th line, and Agostino to the press box.
Dermott returns and pushes Gravel or Schmaltz out.
I don't know. When you get into that 5/6 pairing. Harpur is awful. So is Marincin. Gravel at least had some decent PK numbers with LA, and even with Edmonton was slightly above the league average on a bad team. |

To me they are a bit like St.Louis last year. But they have an aging team. They have to win in the next 1-2 years. |

I’ve always thought Kapanen was pretty meh on the PP last year.
He’s a 5v5 North-South type of player. I could see Aberg fitting nicely on the PP.
Kap gets lots of PK time anyways. |

4 new Dmen in the line up is a little scary. Not worried about Barrie...so 3 to worry about???
Your PP1 and PP2 look pretty damn good though!
A few tweaks but close to yours:
Kapanen - Matthews - Nylander this line would kill!!!
Moore - Tavares - Marner
Johnson - Kerfoot - Aberg
Agostino - Spezza - Shore
Rielly - Barrie
Muzzin - Ceci
Gravel - Schmaltz |

I don't entirely disagree. I was never super impressed by Kapanen on the Powerplay, but I think I'd be inclined to give him time there - Powerplay is considered a reward for your offensive guys, so I'd be inclined to want to reward him.
I get your point with Aberg. Out of Shore, Agostino, Aberg, Mikheyev, I'm not sure who doesn't make it. Shore has the PK edge for sure. Agostino has some speed and energy, but he's sort of like Moore from what I know of him. Mikheyev is an unknown, but Babs likes him, and he'll definitely get a longer look. That, to me, put Aberg in competition with Agostino. Agostino seemed like a good Hyman-lite type of guy. |

You know never until they play, but I'm not sure that line would be that effective. They'd be great on the rush. Kapanen has great speed. Nylander is very good at zone exit/entry, and is a pretty good passer. You end up with two decent rushing options off of the wings, with Matthews able to slide around for the shot.
But who's going to battle for the puck? No one on that line likes to play on the wall. , and no one is a very aggressive forechecker . . . So once they've lost the puck, it's just coming back up ice. At least that's what I think. I'm certainly giving Johnsson more credit here than he deserves, but he does muck up a little more than Kapanen. I still think that's a weakness on that line. I wonder if a guy like Moore wouldn't create the mess and add some puck retrieval?
I can go from not wanting Hyman to play with anyone in the top 6 to wishing that somehow we had 2 of him!
You also like Aberg, too? I guess we'll see. |

I don’t believe this.
Offensive guys generally play on the PP which is why you see top offensive guys on there....
But some are much better than others..also some are better at playing certain roles.
They will probably need a guy for the slot on the PP2 and Aberg fits that role.
I see Kappy hovering around 15 mins per game playing heavy PK time and playing PP time when there are injuries. |

Kappy is pretty rugged on the wall and throws some decent hits. He doesn't shy away from contact, in fact I see him throwing hits with a bit of a (frank) You type edge... and with his speed he will likely be there first anyway.
But also, like you said, Nylander is great with possession into the zone, maybe there wouldn't be too much need for a grinder on that line.
I would definitely give Moore a try, kid's lost in the shadow of Johnsson and Kap a bit but I think he's a great player.
To me the line of Kap, Matthews, Nylander could be a brilliant line without sacrificing talent for board work. |
