Ben Shelley: An ideal third line

If MDC, or JHS have better camps then say Andrew Ladd, I don't think this regime has any trouble sitting Ladd. I dont think the concerm with the 3rd line is driving the offense first, but rather safe plays and keeping the other team from scoring. That's been the knock with MDC and JHS......being able to play both ends of the ice.

That isn't even mentioning the other kids trying to crack the line up in Wahlstom and Bellows. Both very high first round picks too.

Training camp will tell the story which is why Brassard will make it a real competition. MDC's asset is his quick release and he may click with Brass who is a legit vet NHL Hang Around The Net Playmaker Center. Second PP Unit anyone?

We are going 8D 13 forwards unless there are injuries....I wonter if both Ladd and Clutter are on IR to start the season.

Bellows was picked 19th overall, not a "very high first round pick." Also, he had all of 19 points and was -20 in Bridgeport last season. He's not that close to cracking an NHL lineup.

It seems clear that del colle who played well defensively and ho sang would be much better than komorov and ladd. With ladd you just hope he stays out for a longer period of time. With his knees hes inevitably going to end up on the ir again. Komorov would have been a great 1 or 2 year deal but 4 years is just awful and hes just a roadblock at this point.

Good write up!

My issue with team and line-up is speed, while at 1 point isles were a very fast transition team and just feel that has lacked with what team will ice on most nights.
Most teams have gotten younger & faster and just dont see that w/isles currently.

I'm all for JHS making and sticking at 3rd line bc what he brings offensively to see if it all finally clicks given the proper chance of a year,

Send Ladd to Bridgeport and let him be this generations of Reggie Dunlap (Slap Shot for you young people). I think Kromer still can be effective.

You could’ve typed Clutterbuck instead of komarov in this post and it would’ve Had the same meaning.

Offensively they both would be better. MDC last year made strides on the defensive side of the puck. JHS is dreadful away from the puck and you can’t say he would be a better option than Ladd or Komorov.
As KR said, if MDC and or JHS deserve to play they will. They just need to play the game the right way. Let’s hope they do.

I think MDC did what the coaches asked of him and could potentially round out his game. I could see him having a “break out” season. Not some crazy thing but maybe putting up forty points or somewhere along those lines. I still see him as a bigger contributor to the line up right now then komarov or ladd.

Jhs well who knows? Maybe he’ll put it somewhat together which would to me make him more valuable to the team then the above mentioned players imo. With that said the easy answer is he won’t and it isn’t going to happen as far as he’s concerned but who knows? Love to be wrong about him.

Agree on MDC.
Hopefully JHS finally grows up and starts to play the game the right way.
I am not a fan of Ladd and didn’t want him from day one. Uncle Leo for me unlike many on here does play the d side of the puck well and is a good PKer.
Not an offensive dynamo but will play the game the right way defensively.
In a perfect world both JHS and MDC are in the line up and contributing with Ladd and Leo in the press box.
