I'd take the 'A' off him and give it to Bennett. Monahan has up his intensity...far too often he's invisible. JH gets hacked and wacked and Monahan won't even make eye contact with the guys doing it. This team needs to get a little harder to play against and at least the guys wearing the A's should have a little push back in them. |

Looch has a job to do this year and he'd better take care of business. |

Monahan is a frustrating player to watch at times, its like he goes into casper the ghost mode for stretches during the season. I really wish we had a #1 centre that could actually be physical. I wonder if there is any possible 1 for 1 trade out there. |

Often times, young scoring centres round out their games later in their careers.
He also only really had one (statistical) stretch where he wasn't producing last year, and that was March 15-27, 5 games where he produced no points (and also where games meant pretty much nothing). Then had 6 points in the last 3 games of the season and 2 vs Colorado in the 1st round (where the entire team disappeared).
The 5 game stretch matched a career long. Last year was arguably his most consistent season, even including that period of time with no production.
I think the larger concern I would have, moving into his next contract, is that he doesn't really play the physical end of the game and he's not going to be a great skater at any point in his career. For the Flames to move on from him, they are going to have to draft a stud to replace him, I doubt it will come via trade unless it's for a guy with his own set of warts.
I have this nagging feeling that Tre will look back on the days leading up to the draft and regret not having made a move for some picks with Frolik and/or Brodie.
Kaliyev, Brink, Lavoie, Leason, Sogaard were steals in the draft this year, and it's not even hindsight at this point to suggest that a deal should have been made. With those guys falling before the draft had even started, really wish he'd made the Brodie deal before the Braun trade had landed (though he clearly tried to acquire Kadri - the bum!) or a Frolik trade to get into the 2nd round when Leason was falling.
Maybe he works some magic at the draft next year and deals Mony for a top 3 pick and takes Byfield... apart from that, doubt a trade ever lands them a better 1C than what we've got today. |

Injuries are not an excuse but I’d like to know how many games he’s played healthy. He needed what 3 surgeries? And had how many points? I think we would regret trading him. |

Generating offense is definitely not an issue, especially on the PP. If he could back check a little, I'm sure i'd like him a lot more. Also, wouldn't hurt if he could at least just grab on to somebody in a scrum. For somebody wearing an A, would be nice to see him be a little more rounded. |

I think that's really it, would like to see a bit of a mean streak pop up on him. He's a big guy.
Would love to see a goal where he out muscled someone over getting into a fight. Be that presence that can rifle a shot and get some garbage. A step towards a Getzlaf style of player (or even B.Schenn)
Show that 3rd effort that wins in the playoffs.
If he's not going to be that consistent back checker, at least make the other team curse under their breaths "crap, I have to cover this guy" |

Getzlaf, Malkin (hes a first line cetner on a lot of other teams).
he doesn't have to drop the gloves or get an epic hit. Just make people not want to stay close becauses its a pain and they get overpowered.
someone just needs to give his puppy a tiny kick so he gets angry out there |

Even a guy like Mckinnon, or Barkov etc.. Just being in the tough areas making room for yourself requires a physical presence. Backlund stands his ground and will make room for himself. |
