I imagine the Jake with Sid combo is the only thing set in stone for HCMS. Who plays the off wing? Who plays with Geno? These are likely to change quite often during the early part of the season. Trying to find the right fit is what GMJR will call all the moves.

Does JR deserve some love for getting Guentzal locked up early? Probably saved the Pens at least a mil or 2 by getting that done before the current RFA Armageddon.

I don't think so, I think Crosby would be more the one to thank. He said it on the Chiclets, if he takes a small pay cut and no one else does, its really all for not. It has to be an everyone buys in kinda deal.

Not to mention G should have also realized how distasteful it looks when Nylander held out. and now all these other players.

Pretty sure he didn’t wrestle minutes away from Hornqvist in the Peeper. I think he only played there when Horny was out with the conky. And then the second Horny got back the PP improved. I’d have to double check though.

With the quantity of moves JR makes, there are bound to be a few good ones. Play 1,000 hands of poker and you’re going to hit a royal at some point.

So Kuznetsov has been banned 4 years from IIHF for testing positive for coke. Will he miss time in NHL too?

Big loss for Caps if so.

I think Jake on PP1 is worth exploring. I don’t think he’s as good in front of the net as 72 but 59 is WAY better at retrieving pucks down low which often happens against an aggressive P.K. 72 just really struggles in that area.

I personally don’t think Jake would thrive in Phil’s spot. Call it a hunch. I think Chucky or Schultz would do better there

Yea, I would like to see Shultz or Letang there, preferably Letang, with SHultz QBing.

I almost think it should be Letang over there and Schultz up top. Letang has better passing skills to fit the puck through lanes while a lot of people believe Schultz has a better shot from up top that hits the net more (which I think that idea has been debunked but people still run with that idea).

He can play in the NHL, just banned from IIHF games. So Olympics, World Championships, etc.

I’m definitely in the minority on having Letang up top but he’s already been there for years, it’s just that the game plan changes. It’s a lethal PP option which Minot State just utilized to win another championship (yes, D1 club)

Letang moves the puck to Geno on his off side and he heads down Main Street. If that forward goes with Letang then it opens up Schultz to move into that spot for an uncontested 1T and you have Letang and 72 around the net with Sid down low. If a forward stays there to cover Schultz now up top then Malkin can move it backdoor to 72 for a 1T / redirect or he can give it to Sid who has Letang cruising down the middle for a 1T or a 2 on 1 with 72, or if Schultz can backdoor his guy and get open too

It fixes all of RWs issues with our PP that at times it gets too stale or stagnant with passing on the perimeter. That one move (called penetrating or slashing the box, the box being the penalty killing formation) opens up tons of potential passing lanes. You can’t defend everyone

No JR only gets credit for his bad moves. All the good moves and the last 2 back to back cups are due to Botts.

LOL....If they suspended NHL players for Coke there would be nobody to play the games.

Hahaha. I get jumped all over for saying Jakey would be more of a Brian Rust if he were drafted by another team. RW says it with a chart and it’s truth.

Congrats Vic 🥳

I haven’t been around as much. Works been really busy and I landed the big NHL client I wanted.. doesn’t seem like a ton has changed except I guess Rino is taking a break? Don’t blame me for that because it weren’t me!

Well, if you go to the NHL site or the app they recently reviewed the Penguins

Ristolainen asked to be traded. Rumors are Buffalo, AZ, WPG, and Anaheim are the front runners for Gardiner if they can clear out other salaries and their backup plan would be to turn to Ristolainen

RW has been reading the blogs and expanding onto some topics that we wanted to see but there was one day where he created a new blog basically about nothing

There have been a bunch of prospect reports going out and lots of people have Poulin, Addison, PO Joseph, and Hallander as top prospects

Chris Tierney is projecting the Penguins to be 2nd in the Metro behind the Caps but not by much

There were some rumors about there being interest in JJ if other certain things happened

There’s some talk of Chucky maybe getting a good look with Sid and Guentzel which would likely leave McCann with Malkin and Kahun

Yzerman picked up Erne from Tampa who possibly opened enough space to sign Point, maybe

NHL camps open on 9/12 so all over Canada and the US players have already been returning to get back into their comfort zones

Wait, hold up. You’re saying Jake would only be a 15-17 goal guy if he was playing with Kane and Toews instead of Sid? What if he were playing with AM34? Getzlaf? Kopitar?

Jake Guentzel got promoted to play with Geno right out of the gate and he was good. Then he played better with Sid. Kunitz wasn’t a stud outside of the top 6, that didn’t make him garbage. He was a good support player and right now so is Jake. Name me other players who scored 40 goals playing with Sid. I’ll wait

Also, Guerin is the new Wild GM and they immediately signed Eriksson Ek right after. Most people are talking about the team as a tire fire and that they should sell off, but I agree with the articles that I’ve been reading that they have some cap space, a good coach, and they’re really not terrible at any position.

They’re finally healthy. Dumba will be back. Suter, Spurgeon, Staal and Parise are all coming off good seasons. Zucc was a nice addition and we’ve already discussed how Zucker is primed for a rebound and really Dubnyk probably will somewhat as well. Chris Tierney has Rask as the only black hole on that roster and we’ve already discussed how he’ll likely be better than last year when he had that deep cut on his hand

Jake playing with Sid is allowed to just sit in the high slot because Sid has to be the best forechecker right now with the way these young players play the perimeter. Sometimes Jake has a decent forecheck but most times he’s coming in late. Playing with any of those other elite centers Jakes going to have to be more aggressive. But thanks for proving my point that no ones allowed to criticize little Jakey. Also how many games I FM? Sid will protect him though.
